It was spectacular.
We had a family lunch and it was wonderful, great service and excellent food. I highly recommend the NB Restaurant
The food was very good. The evening was lovely until we received the bill. We received the credit card summary slip and the waiter had handwritten in a tip and the final amount. We were a party of five and received no notification of a mandatory gratuity, and felt this was disrespectful. We also had to request an itemized bill, as it was a business dinner. The mandatory tip, added without prior notice or agreement spoiled what was otherwise a lovely evening.
Shopping mall quality Italian food with service to match. Even "auctioned" off the food, i.e., who has the chicken livers, who has the cioppino?! A waste of a dinner in foody San Francisco. Awful.
Fabulous meal with lots of variety. Our waiter Mel made great recommendations. The Osso Buco was made with 3 smaller shanks that perfectly pulled from bone in a rich savory red sauce. Bravo chef!!
Easy to book
They got us in and out
Great food great service
How far the mighty have fallen. It's been years and I well remember how good the food here used to be. Time had not been kind. Salads were willed and somehow both overdressed (way too much) and underdressed (minimal flavor for all that was there). My pasta was massively over salted to the point of being inedible, my companion's gnocchi was flavorless, and the fettuccini Alfredo had the good fortune of being, well, ok.
Will not return.
Excellent service. The spaghetti Carbonara, a house speciality, was delicious.
They up charge for most item, anchovies, no refills on Ice tea.
That was a dissapointment.
Food is good, nice ambiance.
Celeabrating a family Birthday prior to attending BBB, we enjoyed a wonderful dining experience!
Upon arrival we were met with pleasant attention
And this continued all evening until we were leaving and were hugged out the door!
Our waiter was extraordinarily knowledgeable and fun!
He helped us through decision making for the entire group.
What delicious cuisine, professionally served in a delightful venue!
Iconic restaurant that never changes but is always terrific.
It was great. The service was impeccable!! We sat in the wine cellar and really enjoyed it. The food was real good. I was disappointed that so many of the dishes were made with veal. So that limited our choices. One suggestion serve the bread a little on the warm side. The bread was so cold like it and the butter just came out of the fridge.
Peaceful not rushed relaxing atmosphere!
Food is coming too slow!!
North Beach Restaurant has been one of our favorites for over 50 years. We usually dine here for special occasions. In this case, we needed to escape the power shutoffs in the East Bay and needed valet parking as my wife fractured her foot the week before. The restaurant provided a table in the front so we didn't have to walk too far, a wonderful accomodation for us. The food, as always, was fabulous. I don't know how they do it but their Minestrone soup is to die for - a light broth loaded with fresh vegetables and topped with parmesan cheese. My wife had the swordfish, grilled to perfection. I had the Osso Buco - an amazing dish. Then we topped it off with a couple of decaf cappuchinos - works of art. Can't say enough great things about this restaurant. Go and enjoy!
This restaurant was wonderful in every way. The food was truly superb and the waiters went out of their way to meet all of our needs. We were in the city for my husband’s birthday and, these wonderful people not only brought him a luscious dessert with a candle but sang Happy Birthday to him. It was a meal and experience we shall always remember. I would encourage anyone who is in the city to try this fabulous restaurant. Even though it is a very large (and lovely) restaurant, the eating areas were arranged to feel intimate. It was perfect in every way and only minutes from Club Fugazi where we had tickets for a show.
Thank you, North Beach Restaurant.
I was extremely disappointed with everything about the restaurant. Packed us in like sardines. Rude wait staff.
I was embarrassed to have brought my relatives from Italy there. These cousins own restaurants in Verona.. Bad choice on my part.
Sorry, but I would not recommend this restaurant for fine dining. More like fast food. Will not return.
The food and support staff were very good, however the lead waiter was a no op. We think he perceived us as tourists and did not merit the attention he provided other guests. Pulling information out of him was like pulling teeth. Going forward we will select from the other great restaurants we have experienced in San Francisco.
We had a lovely time. The food was delicious and the waiter friendly and accommodating. We have been here before and we will return.
We had a wonderful dinner at North Beach Restaurant. We weren't dressed up and we were treated like royalty. Our waiter was wonderful and had a ready smile. Our daughter has a severe food allergy and her dinner was given special attention. Thank you so much for taking care of her. She really enjoyed her dinner without anxiety. We enjoyed the fresh salads, pasta arrabiata, spinach ravioli and filet mignon. All done to our liking. Highly recommend North Beach Restaurant.
The staff was very friendly but the food was disappointing. It is very hard to find cannelloni on the menu of an Italian restaurant and I was looking forward to trying North Beach's version. The sauce was light and very flavorful, the pasta was just the right thickness and very fresh tasting, the filling was quite good; but it was buried under too much cheese and there was no béchamel sauce which is the defining touch for any cannelloni. Their Tiramisu was terrible. It must have been frozen and not defrosted properly because it was very wet and soggy. We let staff know how disappointing it was but no one seemed to care. I had always wanted to eat at North Beach and now that I have I am very sad that it was not the experience I had hoped for.
Petrale sole was fabulous!
Always great! Service is exceptional and you won’t get better food anywhere. Pasta is second to none and the specials are delightful.
Outstanding old school Italian food. Food and service are phenomenal. The wait staff looks and acts very professuonal. This is REAL Italian food; the kind my Tuscan grandmother made. You won't find ravioli filled with butternut squash here. The menu has a nice variety, including lots of pasta choices. The scrumptious polenta is a must. So are the house special ravioli. Finish the meal with the hot zabaglione for pure satisfaction. It may seem pricey, but the portions are generous and well prepared. I've never been disappointed by North Beach Restaurant. They are consistent.
I have been several times with larger groups and the food and service are consistent and very good ! Not an easy feat.
An old time favorite. Fantastic food and service. If you like Italian, you’ll love the North Beach restaurant.
We had excellent service. However, the food did not live up to our previous dinners. The Caesar salad was so-so; dressing lacked complexity and flavor (doubt any anchovies were used). The sliced tomatoes with anchovies and onions was just ok: anchovies were plentiful and tasty, onions were sweet, but the tomatoes were not as tasty as I’d expect and the sauce/salad dressing on top was bland. The linguine with white clam sauce disappointed because the pasta was not high quality and the chopped clams tasted like they came out of a can. The veal Marsala was also disappointing. Although the veal was tender, the Marsala sauce was unusually sweet. The potatoes were the best part of that dish. We don’t know if the chef had a bad night. Not sure if we will return after the underwhelming meal.
Yummy! Went for dinner with friends visiting from Florida. I wanted them to experience an authentic place in the Bay Area. North Beach Restaurant never disappoints. Have been going there for dinner for over 20 years. The food is just outstanding. And they pay special attention if you are attending a show nearby. Can't say enough about this restaurant. If you go, look carefully at the daily specials. They are unique.
Wonderful restaurant with delicious dishes, excellent service and nice atmosphere. We were a party of five and all of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The appetizers and desserts were delicious as well and the wine selection was super. Thanks for making our visit to your restaurant and wonderful experience.
The food was the sort of Italian food you can find in cans at supermarkets. I think the veal was real, but it could have been chicken. The eggplant parmigiana as MUSHY, devoid of any flavor whatsoever.
I am a San Francisco resident, it was my first and last visit, and i would NEVER recommend the restaurant to anyone...there are many other better choices, but we were invited..now we know to avoid North Beach Restaurant....
We enjoyed a fantastic dinner at North Beach Restaurant. We were seated promptly, right at our reservation time slot. Service was friendly and efficient. Our waiter, Marco, made a great meal even better with his suggestions and great attention to our requests. We enjoyed a Burrats appetizer, which was delicious. The mozzarella was so creamy and fresh and the balsamic was as good as I’ve had.
For our main course, my lady ordered Veal Piccata, which she enjoyed a lot. I made the better choice, going with the Osso Bucco. It was excellent. One bite of the polenta that came with the dish, and I was transported back to my childhood where my grandmother used to make wonderful polenta.
We will be going back to North Beach Restsurant very soon.
Impeccable service. Delicious food (Isao bucco was amazing). Great wine list. What more could you want?
Extremely delicious and authentic Italian cuisine - very accommodating to prepare a special family favorite dessert. Warm and inviting - very attractive setting. Looking forward to a return visit -
Had a very nice authentic Italian dinner on our recent trip to San Francisco. I'd recommend it for a leisurely dinner after a long day of sightseeing in this amazing town.
Egg plant was quite good. Carbonara was heavy with sausage instead of prosciutto. Shellfish pasta came with a meat-sauce marinara — a mistake? Calamari appetizer was tasty, but prosciutto with melon was a poor value with no imagination. Service was attentive but “matter of fact”. All things considered, for San Francisco’s restaurant scene in general, and North Beach Italian in particular, this was a less than exIting experience.
This was our first visit. We loved the food and ambiance. We arrived early as we had later evening plans and sat in the front by the window It was a great spot. I love a simple tomato sauce; I ordered that and it was delicious as was the Bolognese sauce my husband ordered. We'll be back next time we are in SF!
I have been eating at The North Beach Restaurant for 41 years! It has been my favorite restaurant my entire adult life. I proportion my wife at this restaurant! Sadly the service and experience has gone downhill quickly over the last few years. I think it’s time to try other Italian restaurants in San Francisco. I’m very saddened by this but I guess it must end.
Great time for 45 year reunion! Great service.
