We’ve been coming to Neptune Beach, FL for our vacation, 2x a year for 7 years, in part because of the wonderful food at North Beach Fish Camp. HOWEVER, our experience this time was not at all what we’ve experienced in the past. All our food was just okay. In fact, most of it was overcooked. We even speculated that the mussels had been reheated from the day before. The clams and fries were so over fried, they were hard and leathery. The vegetables were very mushy from over cooking.
We know they’ve had a new manager for about a year and since he arrived things have not been as good overall. Some of the wait staff that have been there for years are now also gone. Not sure if that’s any indication of where the trouble lies. They definitely have a problem in the kitchen they need to fix and fast!
I hate to say that after our long history with this restaurant we would consider not returning. We will give it one more try again in the fall. If it fails again, we will be looking for a new vacation location and feel sad that something so good has ended.
I can't verbalize anything that the ratings I gave don't already say. Want a 1st class experience, complete with complimentary valet parking and food that is out of this world? This is your place. The closest I can describe the feeling of taking the last bite of food is the feeling you get when you turn the last page of the best book you've ever read. Completely satisfied but you can't wait for the sequel. I honestly couldn't wait for the next occasion to go there! Thank GOD Mother's Day is almost here!
Absolutely our most favorite restaurant ever! We always ask for our favorite waiter, Darrell. Darrell never steers us wrong in his suggestions. We specifically stop there every year on our way back to Rochester, Ny, and look forward to our dinner at North Beach Fish Camp! Best seafood and filet ever! Worth every penny and worth the stop in Jacksonville Beach! This is our fourth time and a permanent part of our itinerary!
Food was very good! Must try bread pudding with a shot of rum!!
Portions were not that large. The calamari rings were very small. The Cajuns crab claws were so-so. My husband ordered the 4 choice seafood. It was not a big portion for the amount of money in comparison to other local seafood restaurants. You get fish “bites” instead of a fish filet. The clam chowder was very good, as well as the bread pudding.
Our waiter was fun and polite, our food was delicious, and the food came in perfect time
The food is always well prepared, delicious and served hot. Our server was efficient and pleasant despite how crowded the restaurant was - surprisingly for a Sunday night.. Unfortunately, she neglected to tell our dinner companions there was a $12 upcharge for choosing snapper versus the cod. The manager was very apologetic and accommodating.
As mentioned, it was terribly over crowded, too noisy for dinner conversation. They neglected to address our birthday celebration, and since it was so noisy nd crowded we just left.
We do like the food here, but It was too noisy and crowded.
Perhaps during the week would make for a more calm and relaxed dinner experience.
made reservations asked for top floor. ended up on main floor with party of 8.
very loud hard to talk.
service was good, food was a bit overcooked but still good.
We love this restaurant. The scallop appetizer is probably the best thing I've ever eaten. It is a vibrant and energetic environment - not conducive to proposing or breaking up, but otherwise a fun and delicious place in close proximity to the beach and shops.
Pleasant greeting, on time seating and prompt waitress appearance for introduction of self and menu. Food is always well prepared and tastefully presented in a timely manner and this time did not disappoint. A favorite location for out of town guests. A comfortable place for family. Dining here is a treat.
Atmosphere and food were really good. We sat outside. Drawback was in service area. My wife and I ordered each an entree and side salad; shared mussels for appetizer. They all came at practically the same time. The server helper took the main entrees back to kitchen to keep warm because we had too many dishes on table already. Also, mussels shells were only able to be discarded onto small roll plate. Apparently there was another mussels dish of exactly same size as the dish containing the mussels that was not presented to us.
Hidden Treasure off the beaten path! Well worth the drive from our hotel.
Great place food and service top notch, if you go early noise is ok but later it’s very loud, still one of my favorite places to go to eat
Everything was great, we love it there
Each of the Fish Camps run by this group have pretty much the same great menu and each is worth a visit. They are all located near the water and feature fresh seafood. Always tasty. I love the shrimp and grits so that is my normal order but there are other good choices. I need to eat gluten-free and have never had an issue.
Good food, horrible customer service. Took my gf there for her bday. Took to flagging down the server to order then to close out. Made us feel that he forgot about us. Actually another server had to close us out. Made up for it by going to cantina Louie for a margarita. They have great service!
1st time there and I was highly impressed. Management staff was very friendly and the food was great.
Fun evening! We went early on a Saturday evening for a family dinner and had a great time. We were seated on the second floor but away from the windows so we didn't have much of a view. The food was outstanding and we all loved our selections. The servers were very attentive as was management. In fact, if we had any negatives it would be that there seemed to always be someone stopping by our table to see if we needed anything! We were full from our meals but couldn't pass up the white chocolate bread pudding. It is to die for!!
Food is always good every time we eat here! Especially love the desserts.
Great option for entertaining out of town guests. Staff is incredibly accommodating and food is delicious.
We never knew who our waiter/waitress was, there were 4 people who were constantly stopping by our table. Not much coordination, no one knew if we had ordered, and we were asked multiple times what we would like. The food was outstanding, though!
There is so much energy in this area of Atlantic Beach and North Beach Fish Camp is in the center of it all. Their house merlot (did not get the name) was excellent. We ordered fresh catch, snapper, but it had run out and trigger fish was substituted. We were curious why snapper had run out when we were dining early, but triggerfish was excellent too. Took home dessert. Never disappoints!
Our server was fantastic. We can't remember his name (middle age African American Male) but he was very friendly, funny, easy-going, knowledgeable and accommodating at all times. Rare find these days!
North Beach Fish Camp never disappoints. Service is top notch, food is excellent. My favorite items on the menu are the grilled oysters and the blue crab cakes. Whatever the fresh catch is it will be delicious. Equal attention is given to sides, desserts and cocktails.
Normally my favorite restaurant. Went there on New Year’s Day for dinner. Snapper special was over cooked and required a knife to cut it. First bad meal I’ve ever had. Plus the gift card I tried to use had not been issued which means they basically didn’t add the value to the card after it was purchased. Also usually too cold there.
Laid back down stairs but the food and service were outstanding; recommend the blackened Mahi and Shrimp and Grits
We went there for dinner after spending an afternoon at the beach. Our server was very courteous and efficient and the food was great.
The staff was accommodating and kind to our large group of 10. The drinks were spot on and the food satisfied our dead food cravings.
This place ALWAYS delivers! Dress up or down, just make sure to outfit will allow room for bread pudding :)
I can’t recall his name but the GM was amazing. We had two newborn babies with us and went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable and checked on us several times.
This is my favorite place to eat at every time I'm in Jacksonville. Fantastic food and wonderful staff.
Awesome service! Food was outstanding!
Order the Shrimp and grits!
Absolutely incredible. Get the crab cakes. Whatever they do to those potatoes served with them is heavenly.
New Years getaway! We encountered one rude person but overall we loved our evening. The bartender was awesome and made a good martini! The oysters were so good with a bacon cream sauce!! I had the seared tuna and hubby had crab cakes - all was delicious.... we were charged for bread which Was kinda cheesy.... our waitress was great!
This visit was for party of six and all was fine. Used valet parking ticket. I have visited about a dozen times and my only real complaint is that was loud--especially given the fact that it was a football bowl weekend. It would be nice if the management could find a way to soften the noise level. FYI--my GF thought the Old Fashioned drink was much too sweet; my Negroni was fine.
Stick with fried or broiled combo dinners they are the best value and quite good usually. Specials are generally overpriced, modest portions of mediocre fare. Appetizers can be great or poor. Servers try very hard to keep patrons happy but early reservations are key if you want to dine at a “normal” time and things can get a bit chaotic at popular times. Speciality cocktails are a treat but a bit pricey. Draft craft beer selection is very limited. Overall, I’ve had good meals and disappointing meals there.
North Beach Fish Camp was a random Google find in a little tourist section of Jacksonville, FL. We made reservations, but as we were walking around, we kept encountering this wonderful seafood smell that attracted us. We were regretting our reservation until we found that this is where the aroma was coming from! The place was so fantastic, we went two nights in a row.
MAKE A RESERVATION!!! There is no way you can just walk-in to this place!
Food was ok. Ordered a 15 dollar glass of wine.....maybe three sips.... definitely not worth it!!!
We love to bring out of town guest here for good seafood. Everyone has always been impressed. Great atmosphere, food and location.
