Great style, ambiance, and service. The meal, although, beautifully crafted and presented was definitely not worth the price. Never judge a book by its cover.
Waiting staff were professional and friendly, food was a bit slow to be served.
My steak was a bit chard, manager offered to corrected....we we given complementary desert.
Overall was a good dinning experience
I enjoyed the look and feel of the restaurant, it looked sophisticated and was softly lit. The service was prompt, friendly and helpful. There were lots of options in the menu and the drinks menu was on point. I had and enjoyed 2 Lipstick martinis. Happy with the visit and would return.
Whoever called from North of 44 to confirm our reservation told us that if our baby started to cry for us to walk around with him !! how rude .. what makes you think we would let him cry and not calm him down; this is a given.. secondly, what makes you think he’s going to misbehave and even if he does, he’s two years old!!!! For the record, we had a 2.5 hours dinner and he was very well behave and was compliment by 2 tables surrounding us....
Food was brilliant. Special place
Sam, our server was great. His recommendation was spot on including the right caviar. The manager, Elaine had personally thank us on our table.

The food was bland. The meat was not of the quality one would expect in a restaurant of this caliber.
Seems like Winterlicious patrons got the short end of the stick. Read other reviews and we were not alone in our opinion.
Too bad. Winterlicious should entice people to come back and pay the higher price of a non discounted meal but this will not happen in our case.
On the positive side, our waitress was very nice and friendly.

Total disappointment. After all previous multiple wonderful experiences with McEwan’s restaurants, culinary Winterlicious 2018 menu at North 44 was just a disaster. Even Buffalo Wild Wings has a more complex better tasting Onion Rings, comparing to those we had at North 44. Will have to give considerable time to even think of another visit to this place. Makes it even more stand out failure following next day Winterlicious visit to ONE.
We had steaks for our Winterlicious Dinner. All three of them were burned. My son’s steak tasted bitter which came from the overly burned. Environment was nice but very dated decor. North 44 was supposed to be a very high end restaurant. Was disappointed this time.
We ordered from the winterlicious menu and enjoyed our choices from the 3 courses.
As usual the staff offered exceptional service and dinner was served with perfect spacing
I have eaten there a few times and found the menu this year to be a bit lacking from their
usual. I also think that having to pay extra for a slice or roll of bread unsatisfactory, as it
would have completed our meal but not necessary, as the cost for the meal is reasonable
for the restaurant but not considered "inexpensive" either.
My fiancée and I went here for the anniversary of our first date. The food was very tasty, the staff were attentive, and the ambiance was pleasant. The only drawback was that it was particularly slow, much more so than I would have expected from this brand. We sat down, and we ordered our food before the couple next to us arrived, and they had food set in front of them well before us, long enough for us to question whether it could have been a demand for these particular dishes.
I can't tell whether we'd have experienced this outside of winterlicious, but it seems unlikely, as everyone else around us was there for the event also.
This was my first time dining at North 44, the food was delicious and the presentation fantastic!! Our server was also very friendly and polite. Look forward to dining there again!!
We have been to North 44 many times and have never been disappointed until last night. We went with friends for Winterlicious. We had to ask for the Winterlicious menu as only the regular menu was placed on the table. The waitress appeared to be surprised that we were not going to order from the regular menu.
The meal was fine, nothing special and not what we expect from Mark McEwan. We go there for special occasions and Summerlicious and Winterlicious so we have past experiences to compare this one to.
We are also accustomed to top notch service, friendly but not overwhelming. Last night the service, too, was ordinary.
We will go back because it’s one of our favourite restaurants. But hopefully next time a little more imagination and creativity will be put into the cuisine as has been done in the past.
And yes, charging for bread is insulting in a restaurant of this caliber.
Wonderful, elegant dining. Came for Winterlicious last year, too, and returned as it was excellent. The food was exquisite and the service spot-on.

Loved the decor but way overpriced. Our bill for 3 people was close to $600...so why are we being charged for a small breadbasket with mediocre bread at best? Unanimous view was that was chintzy. This was our third time here and very likely our last. Server was great though.
Was a nice restaurant food was good could not believe they charged for bread and the cocktails were very very weak and a small drink menu overall I would not go again .
Hot water costs me $1.
The bread should ne included in the winterlicious menu price! It's really not classy to have to buy 4slices of bread for 3 cad in sus.
My husband and I had a fabulous evening. The service and the food was outstanding. North 44 is one of my favourite restaurants in Toronto. It is a very special place.
The menu included interesting protein choices for entrees but had few vegetarian options. I found my meal entirely overpowered by garlic - a taste that you don't expect to be so strong in such a high-end restaurant. The service was excellent, but the ambience was non-existent (there wasn't even any music). Given the heavy price tag, my expectations were higher than what we encountered.
The food was delicious. Our group of three each loved every part of the meal.
Hadn’t been to North 44 for a large number of years ... so my memories of it are a stellar “foodie” destination with incredible table service and utmost professional atmosphere ...so now I know again that things change and so did North 44 ...BUT the food is no longer at the leading edge ... there are many more alternatives to this menu which tends to mediocrity and old style sauces to mask underperforming mains and appetizers ... at one point on this Saturday evening the noise ambience bordered on that of a downtown raw bar/meet up/hook up destination ... somehow Scaramouche and Scaramouche pasta bar have evolved elegantly to maintain an au courant presence, atmosphere and menu content... even Mitsura without Capra has delivered an outstanding edginess to menu design and execution ...watch your side mirrors North 44 because the competition is about to pass you and leave you behind... Mark McKewan’s reputation deserves better !
There are so many things I like about North 44, but the most significant praise I can offer is that after 20+ years of visiting this venerable establishment, I have never been disappointed. The food is rock solid, service is on point, and the ambiance is relaxed yet sophisticated.
This meal was on New Year's Eve, and I've always found that restaurants "struggle" on New Year's Eve. Not here. I was very happy to see their regular menu and no extra tables lurking in corners.
The lobster tagliatelle with chanterelles appetizer was the highlight of the night for us - I would have eagerly ordered a full portion! It was truly an example of flavors "you just can't get at home". My date's tuna carpaccio appetizer was very good - citrusy, smoky, and well seasoned.
Main course special was beef tenderloin and king crab for my date, which she relished, and which was thoughtfully cut for her in the kitchen (she has a broken wrist). My main was ostrich, also very well cooked, although to be fair, I think I'd get the beef if I had to do it again.
Desserts were lovely and delicious.
I was happy to pay the the bill when it came. Well done.

I absolutely loved my meal. I ordered the duck. My fiancé ordered a steak and it came as just a steak on a plate nothing else. We both agreed that it was overpriced for what we ordered. Service was excellent though. Would go back again for a nice date night.
My wife and I celebrated New Years Eve here. It was one of the best meals of our lives.
We started with salads, and for our entrees she had duck and I had ostrich (with thanks to our waitress who described these exotic dishes to us). The food was gorgeous and meticulously prepared. Every single bite was delicious and, sincerely, perfect. We ate very slowly to appreciate the complexity of each dish.
Our meal with a couple of drinks each plus tip cost us about $260 which is a rare extravagance (and certainly the most we've ever paid for a meal) but it was absolutely worth it. It was a luxury and a privilege to be served by such a talented team of experts.
We have always had a wonderful dinning experience at No 44 and this occasion was no different.
Excellent food, service and ambience. Among the many reasons we like No 44 is that, unlike many Toronto restaurants, you can hear each other at the table and have an enjoyable conversation.
