Norse is a restaurant service located within Baltzersen's, a popular cafe in the heart of Harrogate.

The food is influenced by Nordic cuisine. It uses the freshest produce and embrace techniques (curing/pickling/fermenting) for capturing and developing flavours that can be offered out of season.

We offer a succinct highly seasonal selection of just 8 savoury plates and three desserts. Each plate will be a complete dish and you are encouraged to try as many or few as you like.

We are happy to offer a changing programme of bottled craft beers, wine and cocktails curated by our local expert to compliment the menu.

Norse is relaxed table service.

My wife and I had dinner at Norse having read the Good Food Guide's review of the restaurant. Staff were attentive, knowledgable and very helpful. We opted for the Tasting menu which was excellent value at £50 and let us sample a larger variety of the Nordic inspired dishes on offer. From the off with the amuse bouche we were delighted with each dish as it arrived and the only thing we couldn't agree on was which was the best, the Smoked Eel or the Veal. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for something a little different - you won't be disappointed. For any devotees of the Good Food Guide: I almost never disagree with their rating of a restaurant but in this case they've got it wrong. It is underrated by at least one point, maybe two.

The food was lovely and beautifully presented but I really do think the portion control is off the scale, the desserts were really good value but the savoury dishes were tiny and very expensive.

I think this could be the best food I've tasted in Harrogate. The combination of ingredients and flavours works incredibly well. The starters of roasted cauliflower and of organic gourd were just sublime. The mains of cod and of belly pork were also mouthwatering. The service was pleasant, friendly, and unfussy. The surroundings are unflashy, which means you can concentrate on the wonderful food. The menu isn't huge, and it's unusual, so it won't suit everyone, but there's no doubting the quality of the cooking.

Having found Norse last year when planning a return visit to Harrogate it was a simple decision where we would choose to dine in the evening. Last year we had the taster menu during a dry January - this February we chose to enhance the experience by including the drinks selection. The food was once again an exquisite mix of flavours and textures wonderfully balanced and complemented by wines that fully accentuated the sensory journey on the palate. The staff were ever attentive and took time to explain each dish chef had prepared and showed equal knowledge when presenting the accompanying wine making it a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Do plan your visit carefully - if like us you also plan to attend the theatre the same evening you will need an early reservation to give the taster menu the time it so richly deserves (2 hours).

Fabulous food that was so different to a usual eating out experience. All the tiny things were taken care of and it was a perfect evening!

We were very pleased to able to get a booking at Norse during our stay in Harrogate. We went for the 7-course taster menu, which we felt was great value at £49 (well, certainly compared to London prices!) Each dish was delicious and well-executed, with beautiful presentation. The Skrei cod was cooked to soft and melting tenderness and matched well with the duck bacon; the pig's head terrine was matched well with poached crayfish and crayfish bisque. Special mention too for the rhubarb with toasted coconut sorbet (a flavour combination I will try to replicate!), which on reflection was my favourite dish. The staff were engaging and friendly and happy to explain the menu; service was at a good pace and helped us to while away the cold winter evening.

This was our 2nd meal to Norse; the 1st time we were absolutely blown away by the beauty of the food, both visually and gustatorily. This time, our experience was compromised. The food was OK; no longer were there any foraging elements, use of flowers or unexpected flavours. The mushrooms soup stood out of our 5 dishes, and ticked all the right boxes. I wish the rest of the dishes were as evoking. Service was average, especially as I had to cancel my order of wine since there was no sign of it by the time I had finished my meal. Norse has an amazing head chef, and I am hoping he will get back to what he was doing a year ago: unconventional, experiential, beautiful dishes that are not aimed to please the crowd, but guide you through an innovative foodie experience.

This is quite brilliant. Amazing flavours, textures and combinations. The best food in Harrogate, in my opinion. If this restaurant had windows onto a main street - so the Harrogate Vanity Brigade could be seen eating here it would have a waiting list as long as your arm. But as it is set in a little coffee cafe opposite Argos and McDonalds it's pretty much being left to being a word of mouth delight!
