Norman's at the Ritz-Carlton Orlando Ratings and Reviews
Spent a great evening at Norman's celebrating a birthday. I had noted the birthday event when making the reservation through Opentable. We were surprised to find the menu's printed with a birthday greeting and one of the menus was given to the birthday guest as a memento. The staff was attentive without being intrusive. The food was outstanding. The vegetarian selection was inventive and delicious. Looking forward to a return visit.
Fantastic as usual, but I felt service missed a beat. Wrong wine to wrong person. A bit off step for the evening. Mind you, this is Ritz Carlton and Normans, so there were four servers for our table, but they have been historically tighter and more in sync.
Enjoyed an excellent meal @ Norman's when down for a conference.
The ambiance was beautiful, but the crowd was energetic, lively and
the place was packed. In addition, although between seasons, ate a
delectable, modified four course Tasting Menu. Norman's flexibility
was outstanding and cheers to Melisa, my server, in approaching
the kitchen and asking.
Food Presentations were eclectic, Service was timely. What's not
to like !!!
I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting an incredible dining experience, from the appetizers-Shrimp Cevice and Empanadas which were awesome, to the Conch Soup-possibly one of the best soups I have ever had, to the entrees of pork, chicken and the fish-all outstanding, The wine list provided many great choices a little pricy but plenty of variety. In the end would and will go back my next time in town.
The meal was absolutely amazing!. The staff were exceptional: attentive, knowledgeable and so accomodating. The food was from start to finish tremendous. It was an unbelievable meal with a nice atmosphere. Will definitely go again and recommend this to all.
Norman Van Aken's signature restaurant in the Ritz Carlton Orlando is quite possibly the best restaurant in the state! In addition to his classic dishes there is always something new on the menu. Sommelier Yusuf has freshened the wine list with a wide selection of varietals, and price points. The service is impeccable, from the hostesses to the bussers. The servers are knowledgable, discreet, friendly and polite. What a refreshing change from most of the restaurants in this toursity town. On this occasion the oysters were wonderful and the venison loin was tender, expertly cooked, and accompanied with crisp seasonal vegetables. The classic pan roasted snapper was better than I remebered and the sirloin puts "steak houses" to shame.
The dining experience was wonderful!! The foie gras and the Chatd'Yquem were to die for(twice). The yellow tail snapper was some of the best fish I have ever eaten, if not the best. The wait staff, both of them, made the dining a delightful meal. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. They would enjoy it very much!!!
We started with the delicious stuffed crispy shrimp and then had the venison and the veal chop. Both pieces of meat were wonderful. In fact, I'd offer that the venison was the best I've ever had. The service was competent, if not outstanding. Bring $$$$. It aint cheap. But, as you know, you get what you pay for. And it certainly was a special meal.
Norman's was a disappointment. It was very expensive--at least $100 more than a dinner at Primo, the Italian restaurant at the JW Marriott next door and frankly not as pleasant or as memorable a dining experience! The one exception was the signature "Havanna Pork" which was really flavorful and excellent. My wife was not impressed by the grouper, though she did enjoy the ceviche tapas dish she had.
The other rather off-putting thing about Norman's was the number of staff who kept coming up to the table to introduce themselves, but later when I sought to signal that I wanted to speak to member of the waitstaff, I was repeatedly ignored.
We visited here for new year and were certainly not disappointed. We were greeted very warmly at the door by very friendly smart staff and shown to the bar for drinks before our meal. We were then shown to our table and to be honest things just got better and better! Our table waitress was perfection itself. The food was just amazing and the whole atmosphere unbelievable! Timing was perfect too, bang on 11.50 we were ushered out onto the patio to see some fantastic fireworks to bring in 2014. Congratulations to all staff involved!!
We used to be regular diner's at Normans, but due to other restaurants opening up in the area, we had not been back in some time. We decided to go back for our NYE dinner this year. We were surprised by the inconsistent nature of the menu. One dish would be wonderful and the next dish felt uninspired. When you are charging a premium over your normal experience, the guest expects more from the kitchen. The increased price wasn't justified by what was served on the plate.
Our meal and experience at Norman's at the Ritz -Carlton was outstanding. It is a sophisticated restaurant located in a beautiful hotel. The ambiance, service heighten the meal. Three members of my family went for dinner just before New Year's and each had a different meal. All three meals were equally spectacular.
We have already recommended friends to the this restaurant and they were equally impressed.
Came here as we were staying at the hotel next door and it was close. Were unsure at first as we're a younger (cheaper) couple and the Ritz-Carlton seemed like a stuffy place for non-special-occasion dinner, but we came away very impressed. Although it was formal, we never felt uncomfortable despite being underdressed in jeans and service was friendly throughout, if especially leisurely at the end (probably 30 minutes between asking for bill and leaving). Food was wonderful, focused on Latin flavors and a little heavy on seafood for this non-pescatarian but had enough to satisfy us. We loved everything we had, except the conch chowder was too sweet and not flavorful enough. We also were glad to find a GREAT affordable wine on the list.
We dined at Norman's on Christmas Eve. From the moment we arrived, the service was outstanding. It was a set menu and we opted for the wine pairing which was very nice. The pace of the meal was so good. We had two servers who were friendly and informative but knew when to let us alone. At dessert, my husband did not want the wine that was paired for dessert and asked if he could have a different option. Not only was he given that option, no questions asked, a new bottle was opened at the table and poured. When in Orlando we always make it a point to eat at Norman's and have yet to be disappointed.
We had a special date night to celebrate the holiday and it was just fabulous! Filet mignon was like butter melting in your mouth. The yellow tail snapper was wonderful. Wine selections were numerous and delicious. Creme brulle was cooked to perfection. It was a great night and will be back real soon.
I've always been a huge fan of Chef Norman Van Aken's cuisine. Our evening was great, The service was perfect and the food very good. My only complaint(if you can call it that) is i wish i brought my own wine. I prefer more old world wines and the tasting menu was paired with all new world wines. It was my mistake to not inform the somm of my preference. next time:)
I look forward to returning.
This is clearly the best restaurant in central Florida. The food is exquisite. The staff gives you just the right amount of attention, They spoil you without being too attentive. The restaurant is beautiful. The last few years we have come for our wedding anniversary. They add even more special touches to make the dinner even more fabulous.
I took my wife to Norman's for her birthday, and noted that on my OpenTable reservation. She was wowed by menus personalized with "Happy Birthday Kathleen." Other reasons for my rating:
* Valet service was on a tip basis, not an obligatory $15 charge collected by a hotel employee. Our waiter called for our car as we prepared to leave.
* We were given a large glass of an excellent sparkling wine at the time we were presented with our menus, no charge.
* The wine list was spectacular; not extensive but well chosen. We selected a Priorat, an uncommon Spanish gem and one of several wines that could hold up to my veal yet not overwhelm Kathleen's fish.
* Her fish was spectacular in every way. I would have preferred a smaller veal portion.
