Normandie Farm Ratings and Reviews
Met with old friends to catch up. We wanted to find a restaurant with great food and service where we could talk and not feel rushed. Normandie Farm was perfect. Our waiter was prompt and professional and never made us feel unwelcome. The food was delicious! it was the perfect spot to take respite from the snow and get reacquainted with dear old friends.
This place has been around since 1931 - I remember going there as a child. I was expecting that a restaurant that had been around for this long would be an institution but would only have mediocre food. We were pleasantly surprised - the food was excellent, the ambiance marvelous, and the service was perfect. We are definitely going back for special occasions.
Normandie Farm is a classic. Classic French food, well executed, is not easy to find. The sauces are particularly good. Both appetizers were excellent: perfectly seared scallops in a lobster sauce over sauteed spinach was wonderful. So was the generously portioned pate, which came with classic accompaniments: cornichons, finely chopped onion, and tiny capers. The caesar salad was refreshingly light. The lamb shank was perfectly tender and in a rich sauce. My beef wellington was nicely done, also served with a rich sauce. It was impossible not to try a dessert, and the creme brulee was top notch. Their signature popovers are huge and hot, served with jam and butter, and the wine list is good. Our verdict: expensive but definitely worth it.
This was the perfect place for Thanksgiving dinner. The restaurant was full with people coming and going the entire time we were there. However, it never seemed really crowded. It was a buffet, but the lines moved quickly. The setting was cozy and perfect for a holiday such as Thanksgiving or Christmas. With the huge crowd, the noise level was pretty high (if you measured the decibels); however, we never had to speak in a loud voice at our table -- the conversation was easy. The food offered was a huge selection with turkey, roast beef, pork, lamb and fish with all the trimmings -- quite a spread! I (and the folks with me) would highly recommend Normandie Farm.
We have enjoyed Normandie Farm over many years as a special occasion and Sunday restaurant. We have also had a wedding reception and a baby shower there, and the banquet staff, especially Mr. Kay, have always been wonderful and very accommodating. Our family is on the fourth generation enjoying Normandie Farm! We love it!
This is our third annual Thanksgiving celebration at Normandy Farm. We had a rapid seating experience- an improvement from 2016. All in our party loved the food. It’s scrumptious and there’s lots of variety in the buffet. Our daughters love the popovers and deluge of dessert offerings. A good time was had by all 7 of us.
We enjoyed a wonderful time celebrating Mom's birthday! The waiter was excellent, the food was delicious and well spaced, allowing us time to enjoy each other's company as well as the meal. It's the first time we've been there for dinner, but I know we will be back!
We hadn't been to Normandie Farms in many years, not sure why so long. Maybe deterred by what I recalled as a long drive. In fact, it's not that far away. The room was also larger than we recalled. We were seated right by the (gas) fireplace, a nice touch. There are many food choices including vegetarian and plentiful fish. We had lobster bisque, watercress salad, mahi, and halibut. The food was excellent and nicely presented. A wine on the by-the-glass card caught our eye so we got a bottle, even though it wasn't on the main wine list, and turned out to be a fine pick. At the beginning, the service seemed a bit too fast, but then relaxed to a suitable pace. The "country French" decor is delightful, there is enough space between tables to have a conversation, and the prices are quite fair. There is plenty of parking.
I booked Normandie Farms for a birthday brunch after reading some online reviews. I have to say I was rather disappointed. First, let me say that the service was terrific. Our waiter was spot-on and attentive. Beyond that; meh! There was a wide selection of food choices but in terms of taste and flavor, none of it is memorable. The various salad choices were rather unoriginal and completely bland. Seafood choices were also lacking. Some salmon but nothing else, not even shrimp. And a Sunday brunch with no fried chicken (only one chicken dish on display)! The way the Bloody Mary bar was presented was very confusing and not at all appealing and drink prices were expensive. The seating was also very cramped with tables very close to one another. You had to squeeze through with your food and there was no privacy; you could listen in quite clearly on the adjoining tables. At $36 per person plus the addtional $8 per mimosa and $12 for the bloody mary bar, the value was just not there. There are much better valued brunch options around.
We had not been to Normandie Farm for many years. Previously, it was our "go-to" place for large holiday family get-togethers. We returned to reminisce a bit, and to see how the restaurant was doing. Short version: our food was good, had very large portions, etc. The bar/wine by the glass selection was limited. There was an event in their reception area occurring that seemed to disrupt the timing of everything - taking orders too awhile, attention to details was only so-so, etc. Overall, still enjoyable - just need to moderate expectations.
Loved the decoration especially around holidays. Loved the food which are easy on the diet. Will enjoy holiday get together but must check to see if seasonal price is exceptionally higher. We'd gotten double the price for less choice of food during a less known holiday.
I'm thinking, but I can't remember having a worst dining experience. I ordered the duck and it was so fatty that it couldn't be eaten. The broccoli had no taste and was under cooked. The brown rice had a terrible smell and taste like it was sitting in the kitchen for days. My wife ordered the crab imperial which was mostly imperial and not much crab. She said it was very dry. There were only three tables with customers, in the large dining room. You would think that the service would be wonderful. The waiter, who was friendly and personable, did ask if everything was okay before I tasted my food, but I didn't see him after I did. The Maitre D seated us and spent the rest of the evening wandering around the dining area, acknowledging none of the three tables. He certainly could have been more friendly and showed some interest in his diners.
When the waiter brought the check, I told him that the duck was fatty and he could see that my entire meal was still on my plate. He said "I'm so sorry" and walked away with my payment.
We went to the Normandie Farm for dinner and it was understaffed, so it took a long time to place our order, a long time to get our food, and some of the dishes were overcooked. But the restaurant is always convenient, the noise level moderate, allowing for table convrsation, and the staff is friendly
