Love this place. Wonderful seating and ambiance. We were there for a birthday celebration, but have been many times for non-special dining.
Requested a quiet table. Relatively few guests in the restaurant, but we were seated between two large parties. The service was okay, but not exemplary. We began with the asparagus, alleged to be accompanied by balsamic vinegar. There may have been some, but it was elusive. The Beef Wellington was interesting - the pastry was well prepared, but the beef varied between medium well done and raw (we requested medium rare). It was also nearly tasteless.
All in all, an interesting experience, but not one we would ever repeat.
I've dined here several times and it's always great. The food is superb and the service is what you would expect from a fine dining restaurant. I recommend the sea scallops. They were among the best I've ever had.
We come to Normandie Farm because of the quiet elegance of the restaurant, staff and the great food. Very special place that we rely on for special occasions and for just plain lunch or dinner.
We come here every year for an anniversary brunch. We can’t wait to return!
Sunday brunch is very good! Fresh oysters, fresh vegetables, etc. The taste is good.
Service sub par. Food was bland- taste nonexistent
Normandie Farms is a staple of the community and consistently delivers in offering delicious food, excellent options for all food preferences, and fabulous service. With all these positives combined with the ability to park and to enjoy a meal at a leisurely pace, our only recommendation would be to update the dining room and bathrooms to freshen up the decor.
Lovely evening! Delicious food!
Crab cakes had a little too much filling. Other than that, things were fine.
At times the service could be a little better. The two of us felt as though we weren't as important as the larger parties of 10/12 and 6 sitting near us. We felt like it might have something to do with how much tip the wait staff thought they would get. Maybe we were just a little frustrated. The staff is pleasant enough to say the least and once you have their attention, they are absolutely on top of things. The food is as awesome as it was last year when we were there for our last anniversary. It was just as great as I remember from my childhood too. We also were asking about the popovers only to receive two fresh ones that I brought to my aging Father who can't get out anymore....how great was that! Thanks for a great anniversary brunch.
The serving staff was very attentive and management compensated for an error in our food order by offering drinks. The crab cakes did not measure up to our expectations. The lump crab had too much filling. But everything was served hot and the aesthetics were wonderful. We will definitely return for another meal.
Service was abysmal. Had three different waiters in the course of a meal that took nearly two hours, when it should have taken half that time. The food, however, was terrific.
Awesome service and the food selection for the Sunday brunch buffet was fantastic!
We used to come here once a week until we moved. Sadly, the food has not kept up with its past reputation. Host and waiter were great! Decor is okay. I think they need to replace the red , old rug. The popovers were way over cooked on outside , eggy on inside. My salad was drenched in dressing. French onion soup was okay . Out of 4 meals served, only 1 person enjoyed theirs. Very disappointed with short ribs and chicken piccata.
The sea scallops were great, moist and just right. The vegetables that came with them were also fresh and varied. We were there for lunch on a weekday. It wasn't crowded at all.
Didn't like the servers, however; all men, it looked like. They were a bit on the condescending side. Could learn to be friendlier and nicer.
My mother brought us to Normandie Farm Restaurant when I was a child for birthdays and othe special events.
Now as a Medicare recipient, I have continued, over the years, to enjoy it’s quiet ambience, fine dining and their famous Golden, hot Popovers.
I would dine here once a week it I lived closer.
My partner took me there for my Birthday Lunch so I am writing the review.
We went walking at Great Falls Park in the morning and then went to the Sunday buffet for a fine lunch.
All the food was excellently presented and beautifully prepared. I sampled dish after dish and to pay them the highest complement, ever thing reminded my of my mothers gourmet cooking.
The service was excellent and the people were all super nice. One will definitely find many many things that they like and the cost is minimal for the quality of the food served. True Five Star Dining!!
Three of us had a terrible experience at Normandie Farms. Our waiter took our order: one salad, a second salad to be split for two people, and three entrees. Our wine and popovers were served. Then one salad was brought. Thinking the other two were on the way, we patiently waited, but nothing else came. So we called over the waiter to ask where they were. He and the asst. manager discussed this and told us we only ordered one salad appetizer, one dinner salad, and two entrees. We were really surprised at this because the waiter had repeated our order. After restating what we actually ordered, we were told that the other salads would be right out. Twenty minutes later, no salads had appeared. I told the asst. manager that if they didn't show up immediately, we were leaving. They didn't, so we got up from the table. Suddenly, someone was there with one salad, not two as requested. We left. I called and spoke to the manager, Kay Hussein, the next day. Turns out the waiter and asst. manager took no responsibility for their mistake and instead told him we changed our order. He apologized and said he would call me the next day and arrange for the three of us to have dinner on him whenever we wanted. Still waiting for the call. I don't expect to hear from him. The incident was handled very badly and I would definitely not recommend dining at this restaurant when there are so many other choices.
Celebrating our 16th anniversary here by enjoying an amazing brunch!
Always a pleasure to take friends here. Food is consistant and great quality. Service is wonderful and specials change often enough. Will return soon.
Been going here for 30 plus years....a reliable place. Chef Cary 👍
Our waiter was very helpful in explaining menu items and making changes we needed to accommodate a gluten-free diet. The pop-overs, as usual, were a real treat (except of our gluten-free guest, of course.)
The restaurant failed below expectations. Food on the buffet sat a long time and was not replaced or refreshed. It lacked creativity and execution. Veal Marsala and Beef Stroganoff tasted identically. Deserts were soggy and clearly recently defrosted. We celebrated b-day and they brought the cake before the birthday lady came to sit at table.
Normandy Farms is a lovely restaurant. Our food was very good though the beef tips did not have much flavor. The haddock and the salmon were very good. The oysters and the calamari were also very good! We were celebrating a Birthday. After dinner the waiter surprised us with a ‘happy’ dessert with a lit candle which was delightful. When we arrived the dinningroom was freezing cold so they did adjust the temperature. There was an extremely noisy table of about 10 people which made it hard to hear. The table sang happy birthday 4 times to one person! We were hoping to go into the bar afterwards to hear the music but unfortunately the wheelchair lift was broken.
The brunch buffet was extremely good and varied. It contained a number of items not usually found on such buffets, like veal pate as a starter and English trifle for dessert. We thoroughly enjoyed our brunch experience and will return.
Four of us were celebrating a birthday. I had booked well in advance, since that day was also Bastille Day and I expected it to be crowded. As it was, at 1:00 on a Saturday, the main dining room was nearly empty, which was great for us, as it meant we could converse easily. My friends and I loved the pop-overs and thoroughly enjoyed our meals (two orders of scallops, a duck, and a quiche Lorraine). I had mentioned the birthday in the reservation, not asking for or expecting anything special, but without a word from any of us on the day, the birthday girl was presented with a special piece of chocolate cake with a single candle, all very low key and gracefully done. It put the icing (so to speak) on a lovely meal. She has been coming to Normandie Farm since the 1940s, and it's lovely to be able to continue the tradition with her.
Went with spouse for brunch buffet. Decent selection of breakfast and lunch items, but mostly bland, and definitely not worth $36/person. Large ceiling fans over buffet/dining room rapidly turn hot foods cold. Tables too close together. Despite website stating coffee is included, we were charged for coffee. Popovers are bland, dry, and overbaked. Not sure what all the hype is about.
Margerie's Lounge has great dancing music many nights. And full restaurant menu.
We go regularly!
EVERYTHING was wonderful. A very good experience.
Overpriced for what you get. I've been to far better Sunday brunch buffets. Overall, I was a bit disappointed with the selection. My server was great though!
I have been here many times for the Sunday brunch because i like the food and the services so I booked the restaurant a month before Father's Day for a Sunday brunch buffet. However i didnt get any notice that the buffet will be $59/adult on father's day until i arrived on that day. Compared to the regular $36/adult, i didn't see any additional foods or services that can make up the $23 difference except the crowds. I am so disappointed!
The Fathers Day buffet was great!
They have a huge capacity, and the buffet line still doesn't get backed up. Some of the items are absolutely delicious while some aren't that great. I can assure you though that you won't leave without being very full. The price has gone up to a place that isn't pleasant, especially since they charge extra for orange juice. Also, considering how many people are there the noise level isn't bad.
Celebrating my father’s birthday and Fathers’ Day.
We had an enjoyable time together
When I reserved I was sure to mention that this was a birthday celebration but they never acknowledged that even after I mentioned it to our waiter.
It felt very rushed and hectic...
My family and I went to Normadie Farms for an early Father's Day celebration. It is clear that the restaurant is riding on the coattails of its past reputation. The food choices for the brunch were plentiful but not cooked well. Many of the meats were very dry and seasoned beyond edible, the "salad bar" was mayonnaise based vegetable or pastas and their "famous" popovers were burnt lead balls dropped to the table . Service was slow, it took 20 minutes to get a cup of coffee at the table and to make matters worse there were ants crawling all over the pancake sign and on my daughters plate. I think for the amount of money Normadie Farms charges for a brunch that the quality of food, and selection represents 2018 and not 1940. I would not go back, I would not recommend this restaurant to a friend and I can't be the only one in the DMV that feels this way.
The Normandie Farm offers a very pretty decor, very good food, a quiet atmosphere propitious to group conversations. The service, however, is not always as attentive as it should be.
The food was delicious, and our server (Kristin) was a joy. We were celebrating my wife's birthday along with our son and daughter-in-law. All of us had a wonderful time.
