Normandy Farms is a lovely restaurant. Our food was very good though the beef tips did not have much flavor. The haddock and the salmon were very good. The oysters and the calamari were also very good! We were celebrating a Birthday. After dinner the waiter surprised us with a ‘happy’ dessert with a lit candle which was delightful. When we arrived the dinningroom was freezing cold so they did adjust the temperature. There was an extremely noisy table of about 10 people which made it hard to hear. The table sang happy birthday 4 times to one person! We were hoping to go into the bar afterwards to hear the music but unfortunately the wheelchair lift was broken.
Four of us were celebrating a birthday. I had booked well in advance, since that day was also Bastille Day and I expected it to be crowded. As it was, at 1:00 on a Saturday, the main dining room was nearly empty, which was great for us, as it meant we could converse easily. My friends and I loved the pop-overs and thoroughly enjoyed our meals (two orders of scallops, a duck, and a quiche Lorraine). I had mentioned the birthday in the reservation, not asking for or expecting anything special, but without a word from any of us on the day, the birthday girl was presented with a special piece of chocolate cake with a single candle, all very low key and gracefully done. It put the icing (so to speak) on a lovely meal. She has been coming to Normandie Farm since the 1940s, and it's lovely to be able to continue the tradition with her.
Margerie's Lounge has great dancing music many nights. And full restaurant menu.
We go regularly!
EVERYTHING was wonderful. A very good experience.
Overpriced for what you get. I've been to far better Sunday brunch buffets. Overall, I was a bit disappointed with the selection. My server was great though!
I have been here many times for the Sunday brunch because i like the food and the services so I booked the restaurant a month before Father's Day for a Sunday brunch buffet. However i didnt get any notice that the buffet will be $59/adult on father's day until i arrived on that day. Compared to the regular $36/adult, i didn't see any additional foods or services that can make up the $23 difference except the crowds. I am so disappointed!
The Fathers Day buffet was great!
They have a huge capacity, and the buffet line still doesn't get backed up. Some of the items are absolutely delicious while some aren't that great. I can assure you though that you won't leave without being very full. The price has gone up to a place that isn't pleasant, especially since they charge extra for orange juice. Also, considering how many people are there the noise level isn't bad.
Celebrating my father’s birthday and Fathers’ Day.
We had an enjoyable time together
When I reserved I was sure to mention that this was a birthday celebration but they never acknowledged that even after I mentioned it to our waiter.
It felt very rushed and hectic...
My family and I went to Normadie Farms for an early Father's Day celebration. It is clear that the restaurant is riding on the coattails of its past reputation. The food choices for the brunch were plentiful but not cooked well. Many of the meats were very dry and seasoned beyond edible, the "salad bar" was mayonnaise based vegetable or pastas and their "famous" popovers were burnt lead balls dropped to the table . Service was slow, it took 20 minutes to get a cup of coffee at the table and to make matters worse there were ants crawling all over the pancake sign and on my daughters plate. I think for the amount of money Normadie Farms charges for a brunch that the quality of food, and selection represents 2018 and not 1940. I would not go back, I would not recommend this restaurant to a friend and I can't be the only one in the DMV that feels this way.
The Normandie Farm offers a very pretty decor, very good food, a quiet atmosphere propitious to group conversations. The service, however, is not always as attentive as it should be.
The food was delicious, and our server (Kristin) was a joy. We were celebrating my wife's birthday along with our son and daughter-in-law. All of us had a wonderful time.
the raw oysters were tasteless; the onion soup average; popovers dry and luke warm; the ribs were awful
We were celebrating a birthday and the honoree has to leave at a certain time. It was a very good experience, but slightly slow service and refill coffee was not very hot.
Great food and service for our wedding anniversary.
Great brunch location. Relaxed. Good for get togethers. Patient, efficient service.
Looks as if interior was updated a bit. The individual lampshades on the overhanging brass chandeliers need to be straightened as they are all off kilter pointing in a lot of different directions, brass should be cleaned.
Large portions of food. California Eggs Benedict was one lunch entree ~ however both eggs were way overcooked - almost to the point of being hard cooked. They should be POACHED and
yolks liquid in consistency.
Nice ambiance - obviously for an older crowd but my mother enjoyed it.
Mixed drinks were tasty, food server (woman) was very much on the ball.
Host/mgr. was very pleasant.
My daughters have been wanting to try Normandie Farm in advance of their Bat Mitzvah party scheduled for 2019. They were delighted with the restaurant, the food and the party rooms. I had booked this without their input, but they are pleased with the choice. Score one for mom!
We went there for mother's day dinner expecting to order our favorite food from their menu. Instead, the only option was a buffet. The buffet was awful with a limited selection. The food that should be hot was cold. My guess is that they had the same buffet all day -- it looked old. Service was hard to come by. We asked for a wine list and was told they did not have one-- until I found one on the next table. Only one popover was offered and the butter wasn't refilled. We had to search for a waiter to get coffee. What a total disappointment. We will never go there on a holiday again (we were told buffet for all holidays) and will now reconsider going there for our other special occasions. Poor job Normandy Farms!
The Mothers Day buffet food was very good. They served a series of stews, fish and prime rib. There was a genre at assortment of salads and other vegetables, all really good. The deserts were cakes and pies and a few other things. The food was great but the service was inattentive. One plate was removed from the table when one of us got up to use the restroom. It is $56 per adult and $15 per child. It’s a bit pricey for what you get I think and the service needs improvement. This review was for a special occasion so I cannot comment on their normal service or food.
Unusually poor service
It was buffet rather than a la carte. There was a wide variety of foods, but some was quite ordinary. For example, oysters with no flavor, bowls of coleslaw the weren’t being refilled. There were several varieties of artichoke salad which were good.
Been trying to get a reservation at Normandie Farm for quire a few special occasions, but usually booked. Finally found an opening for Mother's Day. Loved the French country atmosphere and lots of great choices on the special buffet for Mother's Day. Of course, the popovers with butter and jam are wonderful! The service was excellent and I gave the staff who waited on us an extra tip for being so cordial and on top of things (never had an even half-full water and soda and coffee was refilled without asking). The meat dishes were extra tasty, beef stroganoff, veal marsala, leg of beef, ham and lamb stew. Everything was fresh and flavorful. Will be back!
Very disappointed! A lot of the food was cold. Brunch price has increased to $56 per person and they removed the omelette station. They even charged me $2 for orange juice on top of the $56. They are getting greedy and it shows.
They were clearly understaffed for Mother's Day brunch. A shame since clearly there was high demand for brunch that day. Extremely crowded and difficult to get a hold of a host/hostess when we arrived. Waitress appeared to be doing her best, but she seemed overwhelmed. Quality of food was ok, but not noteworthy. Also, they did not have an omelette station out the way they normally do. They shouldn't charge a premium for Mother's day brunch if they do not have adequate staff to accommodate. Unfortunately, we are unlikely to return.
Brunch at Normandie Farm is our annual Mother's Day tradition. We go for the popovers, the vast brunch selection (especially the oysters) and the atmosphere. The service is always good, especially given the big crowd.
Mothers Day. Very crowded. No roses for moms. Mimosas not included. No shrimp, omelet station, waffle station. No scrambled eggs- just eggs Benedict. I realize that stations would be difficult for so many people. Have been before and these things were included. Price about 65% higher than a regular Sunday brunch. Have been going to Normandy Farms 45 years and live in the neighborhood. Will not go back on Mother’s Day again.
They raise the price for holidays ...$56 dollars and it doesn’t even include juice
They say they have eggs and omelets ....but you have to know to ask for them
The popovers were over cooked and dry
They brought us the check after only one hour ...we hadn’t even had dessert ...we felt very rushed
For that price we shouldn’t feel rushed
Very disappointed was really looking forward to this brunch
The food was great and no trouble hearing each other as we talked.
Honestly, this place was okay but not anything special unless you're looking for a kitschy experience. When we arrived, no one was at the hostess stand. The manager and two servers were standing nearby, they noticed us but then continued what they were doing for several minutes before acknowledging us and seating us. The food was okay, but not anything special or really great. We had the pate plate (which was a very traditional recipe) and escargot (overpowered by pesto) for appetizers. I had the veal a la francaise and my husband had the calf liver. Both were large portions of meat, small sides. They did give us champagne on the house since we were celebrating, which was very nice.
The decor is kitschy - like a strange, old French tavern or inn (plates on the wall, bars of music printed on the walls and beams, heavy curtains, etc). We could hear the live music from the other room, and it was really awful. There was no music in the room where we were seated, which made the atmosphere a bit quiet and awkward. There were maybe 3-4 other tables there. The service was okay; although everyone was very nice, it was just slow and haphazard. Honestly, we considered leaving before we ordered so we will not be going back.
Normandie Farm is a standby that remains a great restaurant. Worth the mini-excursion from DC, especially if you enjoy the entertainment in the bar/lounge, but the old-fashioned dining room serves up great service and great dishes as well. We've never been disappointed with anything! Thanks!
Great popovers and the selection was good. I thought they had bottomless mimosa when I asked the waiter. However, when the bill comes, he denies of having bottomless mimosa.
First they couldn't find our reservation (turns out they had given our table to someone else). After we were finally seated, the service was horrible (waiter reached over table to take away plates, dangling his sleeve in other dishes; had to specifically ask for water or coffee refills as wait staff did not pay attention) - particularly disappointing for a place of this caliber. The brunch buffet was okay. Good selection of food and reasonably tasty for buffet food. A disappointing experience especially since we went there for a special occasion!
We could not have had a more fantastic meal in celebration of my brother’s birthday! The food was outstanding, and the waiters friendly and helpful. I would definitely return for dinner as well as for breakfast. On our way out, we saw a live four-piece band in the bar area that sounded terrific. It’s rare to find live music anymore at a restaurant, especially one that plays standards. This place is truly a find.
The service and menu have been hit and miss for years but our dinner this past Tuesday was excellent as was the service
A wonderful Sunday brunch. It was crowded but warm and friendly. Conversation sound level was okay. Food and service were excellent, the former delicious and the latter was careful and attentive.
Good service & food was great.
Definitely going back soon
After hearing for many years how great the brunch was a Normandie Farm, we finally made a reservation. We had to wait 4 weeks, so we thought that the quality was still very good.
We were very disappointed. Service was inattentive. At the beginning, we didn't even know who our server was. We constantly had to ask for things. Most of the food items were very mediocre. The items that were good were all packaged items, like cheese, fresh fruit and pastries. I'm positive that the pastries were made elsewhere.
Asking $36 for this brunch was a extremely high. We will never go again and will tell people to look elsewhere.
It was a really nice meal!
