Normandie Farm Ratings and Reviews
We were there for brunch. We have been coming to Normandy Farm for quite a while now and it seems it’s always the same menu. Some of the items are good, but like any other establishment, you need to revamp your menu. Also, the water glasses on our table were filthy and had to be replaced as well as the coffee creamer container. We like Normandy Farm and that’s why I’m taking the time to write this review.
Place is past its prime. food OK but not fabulous. a bit run down. stodgy. old school. had gone decades ago and had same impression but tried it again for restaurant week. didn't finish much of my main course because not particularly appealing. even 2 of 3 popovers we had were overcooked (generally the best part of the meal) The special heirloom tomato and beet salad was excellent. steak with peppers was poor cut of meat. lobster bisque uninspired. will wait a few more decades to return. Too bad - great location
Celebrated our anniversary here. I like the low key environment and old fashioned charm. Food is good, lots of tasty selections. Staff was very helpful without being smothering. Management was considerate and recognized our occasion in an appropriate manner. LOVE the popovers! I have always considered this restaurant to be a good value for the dollar. We have been here many times and will return.
Normandie Farms has become our New Year's Eve/husband's birthday tradition. We love the French country atmosphere. The wonderful food is wonderful, especially the popovers. The service is spotty on, even on busy New Year's Eve. Look forward to eating there at least once a year, maybe even twice.
Normandie Farm lived up to its longtime reputation--had been there for lunch several times, not for dinner, but found it an excellent place for a celebratory New Year's Eve dinner. The French onion soup and duck breast I had were very good, and the popovers as wonderful as always--I didn't have room for dessert. The service was courteous and professional.
Normandie Farms was my parents' favorite restaurant but, because we line in Williamsburg, I had not been here in almost 15 years. We were not disappointed. The restaurant is still classy, with upscale ambiance and great food. The signature popovers are to die for, and each entree that we had was delicious. It is pricey, yes, but worth it for a special occasion or the occasional splurge. We are not waiting another 15 years!
We made our reservation at Normandie Farm through Open Table. We went to Normandie Farm for their Holiday Buffet Dinner on Christmas Day. We arrived a few minutes ahead of our reservation. There were a lot of folks there for dinner. By the time we got our coats hung up they called us for our table. The service and the food provided we excellent. The dining rooms were nicely decorated for the holiday meal. We really enjoyed our meal the had a very enjoyable experience at Normandie Farm restaurant.
We so enjoyed the Thanksgiving buffet that we went back for the Christmas buffet a few weeks later. We enjoyed it again. A great variety of food choices, all well-prepared. The lamb stew was especially good. The lines were not long, so we never had to wait to get our food. We expect to go back again next year.
This is the third time I visited the restaurant. All three times everything was as consistent as the previous times. Have only been to the restaurant for the buffets. Amazing options, consistently kept food looking fresh and replenished. I am from the Midwest, and this is perhaps the only place that reminds me of a Midwest buffet in the best way. From appetizers, to mains to dessert, there is always something for everyone. Food isn't necessarily new cuisine, but homey and delicious. Popovers are delicious and always a must
This was not my first visit, have been going to Normandie Farm for special occasion dinners since the '60s. The good: Service. Perfect. Staff was neither intrusive, nor absent. The bad: Signature popovers were so dried out they turned to dust when broken apart, and my crab cakes were likewise dry. I expected fresher food for a 7 PM reservation.
They wouldn’t seat us in the main dining room because of a group booking, so they sat us in the bar right next to the band so we couldn’t hear ourselves think. Plus we had a neon spotlight (for the band) shining right at our table the entire night. Not good given that we were long time customers.
Met with old friends to catch up. We wanted to find a restaurant with great food and service where we could talk and not feel rushed. Normandie Farm was perfect. Our waiter was prompt and professional and never made us feel unwelcome. The food was delicious! it was the perfect spot to take respite from the snow and get reacquainted with dear old friends.
This place has been around since 1931 - I remember going there as a child. I was expecting that a restaurant that had been around for this long would be an institution but would only have mediocre food. We were pleasantly surprised - the food was excellent, the ambiance marvelous, and the service was perfect. We are definitely going back for special occasions.
Normandie Farm is a classic. Classic French food, well executed, is not easy to find. The sauces are particularly good. Both appetizers were excellent: perfectly seared scallops in a lobster sauce over sauteed spinach was wonderful. So was the generously portioned pate, which came with classic accompaniments: cornichons, finely chopped onion, and tiny capers. The caesar salad was refreshingly light. The lamb shank was perfectly tender and in a rich sauce. My beef wellington was nicely done, also served with a rich sauce. It was impossible not to try a dessert, and the creme brulee was top notch. Their signature popovers are huge and hot, served with jam and butter, and the wine list is good. Our verdict: expensive but definitely worth it.
