Norfolk Seafood Company & Big Easy Oyster Bar
The bread pudding was to die for!
Very average, nothing wrong, no excitement to the presentation.
We had a lovely time. We went to celebrate my 14 yo birthday as her favorite meal is surf and turf-- whose is not--The food is always amazing. Her steak was perfectly done, my husbands salmon was delicious and my other children had the stuffed shrimp. Personally the best deal in town is the salad with avocado and crab meat . It is on the salad menu but is large enough for an entire meal and is just wonderful.
Excellent service and good food. We dined on a slow Monday but neither the kitchen nor the front was lacking in effort or creativity. Everything from the bread to appetizer to mains and dessert were well presented, delicious and plentiful. The server was most courteous and prompt. Great cocktails and wine by the glass. Highly recommended. Located across from museums and the waterfront.
Attending play @ Wells Theayer
Extremely slow service
Food was great, but I think it might have been a little overpriced. The wait staff was friendly, really nice, but they left us waiting for far too long while there was very few other people in the restaurant. All in all, good experience and I would still recommend this place
My steak was overcooked but edible. Our server was attentive. I would go there again. It is too loud and that was annoying.
Everything and I mean everything was great from the first time when we stepped the door until we left everything was fantastic. Don't live in Virginia Beach area can down from White Plains Maryland. Found a dining spot that I always come back to told alot of my friends about your wonderful establishment.

Best meal I’ve had in a long time! Everything was fresh, perfectly seasoned and delicious! The service was excellent. Our hostess and server were friendly and attentive. Bartender made a delicious sidecar cocktail and wine selection was good.
Don’t live in the area but can’t wait to go back!
Food was exquisite, and the service excellent!
Great food, even better drinks. Definitely try the butterfly effect it was amazing.
My first time visiting and I was not disappointed. I ordered the seafood combination, lobster tail, scallops, shrimp, and collards. It was delicious, but the lobster tail was heavily seasoned and a bit salty. Besides that, everything else was yummy.
Our first time eating at this restaurant. We made reservations for 6. They were very accommodating. The service was excellent as was the food and drinks. Pricey meal for two but it included the drinks as well. I plan to go back again.
Excellent restaurant, phenomenal service food was extremely good.
Excellent food and great cocktails. My date had the Lump Crab Stuffed Flounder - done perfectly and I am not a flounder fan. I had the combo etouffee - nice and spicy. Scallop appetizer was the size of a main course (first world problem 😁). Very good Sazerac also. Highly recommended.
Not bad but I might try another Oyster Bar next time. Our server was excellent.
The food and service.... Fabulous!!
Good food, good place to have dinner. Would recommend to friends and family.
The seafood is excellent -- in particular seafood platter - blue crab, lobster, scallops are a must and price is reasonable. Make sure you leave room for dessert as the Beignet's and Bread Pudding are exceptional. Our waiter was attentive and prompt. Eating in the downstairs bar area is great if you aren't dressed business casual. Could improve the draft beer choices -- Blue Moon on tap would have been a bonus.
Wow, everything here was great!! My friends and I had a wonderful time, I’ll definitely make a return visit to this establishment.
I will definitely be returning. Loved it. The atmosphere and food were great!
Visited during restaurant week. No issues getting the reservation. Seated quickly in the upstairs dining area. And then the waitress came and everything went downhill. She was young and overwhelmed by waiting 3 whole tables at the same time. Forgot our wine chiller and had to be reminded twice. Didn’t refill our water until we got the check. Food was good and was a good value. Would recommend but with a different waitress.
Loved the ambience, but the kitchen was a bit too slow, it took an hour to have our food ready for us. Food was good but a bit too heavy. Highly reccomend the crab legs! They were excellent!!
Food service is too slow. Great oysters BUT fruity salad, fried seafood appetizer, cornbread muffins were bland & lukewarm. Sea bass & bed of rice were over cooked but the collards were tasty. Jambalaya was overly moist, chicken undercooked & dumped in a bowl with no garnish. I did not enjoy the food...I sent the jambalaya back & refused dessert. No thanks, Big Easy!
What's annoying about Restaurant week is what business' and owners do with their normal menus. This place likely would have made and extra $30 off of just us if they'd kept their usual HH prices on oysters. It really doesn't make sense to move them and then not make $ on them.
Secondly, the deserts - why not have Beignet as your primary desert. It's what you do. It is likely the reason that people order from your desert menu. Quite odd.
Food was tasty just some subtleties to consider.
Best scallops that I have ever had. The lemon butter sauce was phenomenal.
Ok for the money
Had eaten there previously, but disapointed this visit. Food only average. Service poor - waitreee only perfuntotry - not a real interst in serving. Will not return nor recommend
It was a quiet night at the restaurant, midweek before 4th of July. We sat in the upstairs dining room. An attractive space. The waiter was also the bartender which slowed the service greatly. He was knowledgeable about the menu. It took quite some time to get the raw oysters we ordered. Dinner was delicious. My husband had the flat iron steak. He said the crab topping and sauce were outstanding. I had lobster, scallop and shrimp in garlic sauce. Very fresh and tasty. Located in the middle of downtown Norfolk. Would definitely recommend this restaurant
We loved the food and atmosphere, but experienced some problems. My family was in town for the first time since we moved to Virginia.
When we first arrived at the restaurant, I had made a reservation. The hostess started to take us to the more formal area, but we were not dressed for it. We asked if we could sit in the casual dining area. She acted like there was very limited seating in the less formal downstairs and that we may not be able to be seated. When she did take us to our table, the downstairs area was almost completely empty (???) with plenty of large tables for our party of 5.
Then, the table greet was delayed, and our food took so long that the waiter apologized and brought out bread. He said we could have one dessert for the whole table to make up for the delay.
At this point, we felt fine. The waiter ended up bringing two desserts to make up for it, so we weren’t upset at all.
Then, the waiter ran our card, and soon came back to take the finalized check (with the tip already written on it).
He then completely disappeared, but we never got the food he said he would take and put in to- go boxes. We didn’t want to just let it go because the food was expensive, and we had two whole meals worth or pasta left, that we had hoped to take home. We felt trapped waiting for him to show back up. We hadn’t planned to spend that long at dinner, and had other plans for my parent’s last night in town.
Finally, my husband went and asked a manager about the boxes. The manager said it was perfectly fine and the waiter would bring them at the very end. We sat wondering when the “very end” would be ! Finally, the manager realized that we were completely cashed out, and he brought our to-go boxes so we could leave. We didn’t have time to show my parents anything else in Norfolk that night.
The people were extremely nice! The food was amazing and the oysters were awesome!
Food and service was excellent. Highly recommend.
Perfect dinner! Really hidden gem of downtown Norfolk restaurants.
The food was really great and priced extremely reasonable. I would definitely come back
Service was slow. We waited almost an hour for our food. The gumbo was good but too spicy for me. I returned it for a salad that was never received. The corn muffins we're not completely cooked. However, my pasta entree was delicious.
We sat without a waiter for about 15 mins . Not even water was offered . They had pasta specials but they where loaded with butter/ oil !!!! We’ve dined there before upstairs and we had a good experience. This time we where in the “basement”
AMAZING drinks (they make their own syrup for the Old Fashions), the food tastes wonderfully, our server was amazing and the overall experience was super enjoyable!
Very wonderful service! food was marvelous and to add the muffins were to die for! I will recommend to friends and be back soon
