Nora Restaurant And Bar
Dinner: Tuesday - Thursday, Sunday: 5:30pm - 10:00pm, Friday - Saturday: 5:30pm - 11:00pm
Such a neat place, small interior very intimate but never felt loud. The food was amazing and the service was top notch, he was more than happy to give suggestions when asked or clarify what food was. Food was delicious, i will definitely be going back. Drinks were also very well done. The Nora 75 was my favorite! Perfect setting for date night or just a casual dinner, flexible setting for sure.
It’s one of our favorite restaurants in Dallas, such a wonderful food with so much flavor, we can eat it every day. Lana
A disappointment. Food mediocre at best, arrived cold after a long wait despite the fact that only two tables in the restaurant were occupied. Waiter smelled of smoke and handled glasses by their rims. It seems that this restaurant is not the same as reflected in earlier reviews... change of owner?
Attentive service, delicious flavors, warm fire in the fireplace. Excellent dining experience overall.
I went to Nora about a year ago and loved the food. Everything was terrific.
This time, in early Nov., not so much. Some of the problems were not the restaurant's fault.
Our host chose the wine and the starter. He selected the appetizer sampler. It was heavy and just OK. We were not given the option to choose a salad or any fresh vegetables. I would have preferred some veggies to the sampler.
Our wine was champagne which was good, but did not enhance the food.
My entree had lamb and eggplant with rice in a strong sauce. I could only eat about 1/3 of it and took home the rest. There I added tomato, green onions and spinach. That made it better.
Also I had some mango chutney on the side. That added some sweetness and vinegar to the heavy dish.
The green, liquid chutney at Nora is good, but acidic. I like both sweet and sour tastes when eating Middle Eastern food.
Nora's Afghan bread was wonderful.
A fellow dining companion had a chicken kebob with red bell pepper and red onion. The onion was not well cooked, too raw for her to eat.
I might go back and order for myself to give Nora another chance. The first time it was so good.
Come to think of it, our server was not helpful in suggesting the dishes that went well together, which would have maximized our dining experience. I don't think she knew what she was selling.
Afghan food is not common in Dallas. We have to be educated.
Both times I went to Nora the owner was there, sitting at a table. He could have been be involved in explaining Nora's food to diners and the cultural history. Lost opportunity, in my opinion. Afghan food is wonderful, if you know what you are choosing and eating.
The decor of Nora has a few interesting pieces that appear to be Afghan. Pointing these unusual objects out, and describing them, would help diners to appreciate the dining experience more.
The Dallas restaurant business is competitive. Selling your product and personalizing it is essential.
Had never had any Afghani food. It was wonderful. The lamb dishes were the best. Loved the hummus, unusual and very tasty. Will be back with friends.
Food was good, but the service was very sub-par. It was a relatively unbusy time in the restaurant with 8+ open tables. Yet, they still sat us in the very back, most undesirable table by the restroom (and we had a reservation). Then, our server was inattentive and had to be flagged down more than once to refill water and wine. He also spilled the coffee as he was setting it down and didn't offer to clean up or get a new one.
Food was good...maybe a little expensive. Rooftop bar was cool, but music was louder than I would have liked.
We were seated quickly, server was very attentive and gave helpful suggestions. Food was incredible! Best rice ever.
Was disappointed. Not as good as in previous visits. Somewhat overpriced and way overspiced. So much so that it was hard to actually taste the food. Not sure if I will go back now.
My husband and I ate at Nora last week. We had heard wonderful things and it mostly lived up to the hype. The Kabul Mule was an amazing cocktail - the cardamom vodka was a real delight! The restaurant was not super packed, so we were surprised with both our appetizers arrived and were practically cold. However, the braised lamb shank we split for dinner was beyond outstanding.
While we were disappointed in the temperature of our apps, the overall experience was delicious and we would recommend this restaurant to anyone.
I was a little apprehensive when my fiancé said he wanted to try this restaurant that serves Afghan food! However I was totally surprised the food was excellent and the cocktails were amazing! You definitely have a new customer!
We go to Nora frequently because we love it and the owner is very hands on. He even jumps in to bus tables if need be! Three of us celebrated a birthday this past week so we were happy to get together. The drinks and food were excellent, maybe better than usual! Rookie waiter seemed lazy and was quite slow, so much that the hostess hopped in to pick up the slack and she was great! The owner made good and brought Lemondrop shots for the whole table. It wasn’t the experience we’re used to at Nora, but we’ll go back because the owners are SO amazing!
Recommend, one of our local favorites for a great experience. Enjoy the creative and excellently prepared menu.
Interesting. I put in the note when I made the reservation that this was for a Birthday even listed the persons name Marci of which she was the only women. The waiter did not mention at all to her Happy Birthday. Thought this was strange. It came across that the restaurant does not care if the dinner is for a special occasion. Next time I would not list a note in the notes area when making a reservation. The food was great except for the vegetables with the grilled food entrees. They were raw. Big Raw onion.
Great food and decent service in a clean, trendy space but sadly overpriced. Spent over $100 on an app, some wine and two entrees that amounted to some rice with very little lamb. Everything was absolutely delicious and the service was good; unfortunately the trendy location just means that it is overpriced. Or probably that I’m just cheap.
The food was amazing! The sampler was a great way to taste several things on the menu! My husband and I shared the combination on the grill as well and the two were definitely more than enough for 2 people!
This is one of our favorite restaurants in town. Great food and great service.
The food was exceptional. And the rooftop patio is wonderful.
Excellent food. Apricot drink was delicious. I had the Lamb shank and it was fantastic. Skip the variety plate appetizer.
We are an Afghan family with out of town family visiting. A party of 10 with a reservation on a Thursday evening. Excited to try this restaurant because we are very familiar with the dishes and flavors as we cook most of the restaurants' dishes at home. Service was average but the waiter was not very pleasant and not in the mood for jokes. The restaurant was slow with only two other tables during our visit. We requested bread with our appetizer and our waiter brought out two pieces of small pita, for a table of 10! Appetizers, sampler platter x2 and mantoo x3, both served as hot dishes, came out cold. Main dishes of a variety of plates offered on the menu all lacked flavor and substance. Beef was hard as leather, chicken dishes were dry, flavors of traditional Afghan meals was sparse, the basmati rice didn't seem freshly prepared, as if it were heated up. Luna Grill serves basmati rice that is fresh daily, I mean come on. The eggplant dish had very few pieces of eggplant. I wish that I could say something positive about Nora as I really try not to write negatively, just so disappointed. A heads up to management- step in and fix Nora, it could be a gem as the locale is great!
We were on our anniversary. Everything was wonderful.
Was absolutely lovely and totally lived up to the Triple D Hype. I absolutely recommend!
We love Nora and make it a point to eat there when we are in the Dallas area.
Excellent bar; bartender and server/waiter were the best. They made the evening enjoyable. The appetizer was great, food was not hot but the restaurant was generous in compensating the plates that were not satisfying.
We went for a nice dinner and got the most amazing food. Very savory and not at all spicy, although that was an option. Very strong drinks and rich meals. Even though most would not know what the items on the menu are, you are sure to find something you like. 10/10 would recommend and will come again.
The food here is outstanding! If you like Turkish, or Indian food you will love this place. The variety of flavors and textures is fantastic.
Great food but served a bit cold. The roof top bar is very cool however the dance club EDM was obnoxious.
Although it was Cinco de Mayo we had the place to ourselves. There was great people watching opportunities as the streets and sidewalks were busy. We all agreed that we enjoyed having the place practically to ourselves, save for a few other diners. It's decorated in a lovely minimalist styles. In fact my sister said that she was going to steal the idea for how the drapes were tied.
Wonderful food. You know the food is good when all at the table can barely stop chewing to make conversation.
The location was perfect and got us to the Winspear in time for the 7pm curtain.
Nora was an unexpected pleasure! We were running a little behind, but called the restaurant. They were very polite and accommodating. When we got there we were seated immediately! They had some very interesting cocktails, a good wine list that was well priced, and absolutely amazing food! The service was very good and the server was able to guide us to an excellent meal. I would definitely recommend!
We were delighted with the food. Very tasty. Our waiter was distracted & that didn’t make the experience as nice as we had hoped ( we were entertaining an out of town visitor as well as a local couple). We had to request our order of bread & chutney 3 Times. When it arrived the waiter told us it was complimentary & apologized for the delay. That was a nice touch. There were a couple of items on the menu we asked about & were told that they don’t offer them (one was soup) & that they really shouldn’t be on the menu any longer. Disappointing. The sampler platter was excellent, several very interesting & tasty item. The grilled lamb & saffron rice were delicious. Overall everyone enjoyed their meal. We will return
The restaurant was not open on the time we reserved using open table
Enjoy the menu and all it had to offer. Service from waiter and bartender was excellent as well.
Went for Easter Sunday Lamb and it was so delicious. Had the Lamb stew. Loved it.
Only thing is I wish they would bring back the Afghan bread.
Great place to enjoy great food and great service. I look forward to going again
Wonderful food, drinks and service. Can’t wait to go back.
Service is attentive, food is fantastic. There was a hidden heat that sneaks up on you in several of the small plates. Everything is delicious. One of our favorite restaurants.
Good appetizers and superb entrees. Uncrowded, quiet, nice experience.
This restaurant is a hidden gem! I have been to AFG for work and had the honor of sampling Afghan cuisine first hand and Nora is a fresh and accurate representation of that. All courses of the meal were well prepared and developed. This place warrants many more visits.
