I’m am going to miss Nolen tremendously! We have walked there at least a dozen times since having our daughter in April. It has served me well over the years for 1/2 off wine nights, girls nights, dates, birthdays, milestone celebrations, etc.
Food tasted good . Crab cakes could be better , they were a bit mushy and. It lump crab .
Edamame was tasty with siracha salt .
Wild chicken: white meat was a bit tough . Dark meat had good flavor with mustard and mushrooms .
Sea scallops were cooked perfectly and tasty.
Risotto was a bit lukewarm .
They could warm their plates to ensure that the base the food is sitting on doesn't cool .
Great service .
Wine selection is nice.
Trendy 😆, good for get together with friends or even with kids . Anniversary dinner / maybe pick somewhere else with a bit more ambiance . It was noisy and sometimes hard to hear across the table . I would go back and try lunch .
Thanks Lou for doing a great job of taking care of our table. We truly enjoyed the dining experience from start to finish. The Chicken Souvlaki and Flank Steak were our entrees and both were well seasoned. We really enjoyed the side Mediterranean Salad.
Great experience-we ate on the patio and it’s beautiful. We had poke as an appetizer and it was wonderful. I had scallops as my entree and my husband had short ribs with truffle mac and cheese. We each thought we had picked the best dinner. I’m sad that I can’t remember the name of our server because she did a terrific job. Can’t wait to go back.
Awesome! Food delish!
Pretty good however I was very disappointed to find the menu had changed - no longer offering some of my favorites. Our server indicated here is new ownership and therefore some signature dishes are no longer available. Too bad that your on line menu still includes them, which is why we opted to dine there that night! :(
Kayla did a great job taking care of us. We were in a little bit of a "movie" hurry. the wine was good. the food was great. The service was wonderful. We will be back!
I must preface this with the fact that I eat out a great deal because I travel for a living. The tartare and the veggies were amazing. I decided to opt out of a larger entree. My service was just okay. It was just me and there were long periods of time where my server was not available. I know it is hard to balance attention versus diner privacy. Overall, she was very nice and genuine but young and often greeted me as "madame" and a Mrs. I am a single 40ish female and both of those sounded really artificial. I think most of her demeanor was just her age and lack of experience. She noted that the apple pie was the "best" dessert and it was really just average - sliced apples with a crumble. I was actually surprised how traditional it was based on your menu and she may need to describe it like that going forward. As a southerner, this was just run of the mill. She was kind and took it off my bill. On the whole, I would definitely come back.
The food is excellent and innovative with extremely large portions. Service is always excellent in a beautiful location with plenty of parking.
The food was excellent, as usual, and service was attentive without being intrusive. The atmosphere was lively enough to be fun without being so loud that my table of 8 couldn't converse easily. I highly recommend Nolen Kitchen for lunch or dinner.
This was my third time dining at Nolen Kitchen and it was easily the worst experience I've had thus far. The service was subpar and the food was right there with it. While the appetizers were spectacular and full of flavor that was about the only part of the meal that was. Whichever chef prepared our entrees failed to season or add any type of flavor to the risotto, crab cakes and scallops. The dessert was really the kicker though. We ordered 3 different flavors of ice cream all served melted and what did remain was a merely ice. Then I was presented with a plastic spoon to enjoy my soup since they noted that they were out of spoons....The restaurant was not full even close to capacity and yet they handed me a fast food plastic spoon in all seriousness. I mean come on. Overall the experience was very disappointing and I had colleagues from out of town who were expecting a fantastic meal at a neighborhood gem.
Service was moderate, taking almost 15 minutes to get a cocktail even though restaurant was only one-third full on a Saturday night. Food was very poor. This included chewy, dry blackened chicken sandwich. It was more burned than blackened. Meat in pasta dish tasted cheap and gamey. Music was dated, and menu had no creativity. Dead for a Saturday night. Place may be suffering from a death spiral, where food quality is lowered to save money, but then you continue to hemorrhage customers due to poor experience.
We used to live in the neighborhood and Nolen Kitchen is our favorite when we return for visits. Food is consistently excellent. Love the outdoor dining. We will be back!
Nolen has lost their game a bit. Their patio needs a refresh. Broken table/chairs/umbrellas. Their paper menus were dirty, covered in food, and over used. You get the sense they are not doing well since they have not reinvested on basic things like reprinting of menus and patio furniture.
The Fried Green Tomato appetizer was wonderful as were our chicken sandwiches. We had wonderful and attentive service and ate outside on a charming little patio. We noticed people from the Myers Park area walking there to enjoy the food and wonderful seating on the patio.
