NOLA is chef/restaurateur Emeril Lagasse’s casual eatery in the heart of New Orleans’ French Quarter. Open since 1992, the critically-acclaimed restaurant fuses traditional Creole, Acadian and Southern cuisine with global influences. Chef de Cuisine Philip Buccieri works closely with Chef Emeril to create an innovative menu showcasing rustic Louisiana cooking with local ingredients and some ethnic twists. The three-story restaurant features an open-action kitchen, chef’s food bar and a signature wood-fired brick oven. NOLA was renovated in 2017 and is now open daily at 11:30 am serving one menu for lunch and dinner.
The food and service was excellent. The only downside was the noise level. You literally had to yell down the table for people to hear you.
Such a negative experience. Only positive were our nice waiters and the friendly manager. Hostess rude, bartender dressed like a slob, the foid was cold and unappealing. We waited 45 min between the entree and appetizer. The bathroom was filthy. Avoid this place. So many great places to eat in NOLA.
We ate at Delmonico’s the night before and had a wonderful time. Had high hopes for NOLA but we were very disappointed. Had a bad feeling as the hostess took us to our table - via an elevator to the 4th floor. The elevator looked like a trade elevator - paint all dinged up - not a big thing but if someone was taking care of this place it wouldn’t look like that ! We were seated and immediately realized that it was very cold (uncomfortably so) and that a series of air con vents were blowing in our direction. Our waiter arrived (well one of two) and we mentioned the temp. He said we were not the first to flag this, and he would talk to the manager. Nothing changed throughout the meal. We ordered both meal and some glasses of wine. After ordering and waiting 15+ mins for the wine, two other waiters stopped by - “would you like another drink” (had bought beers with use from the bar) - to which we explained we had ordered wine and were still waiting. The wine arrived half way through the appetizers. The apps were good. Main courses arrived - I had ordered steak frites medium rare, it was medium well. At this stage, feeling very cold it wasn’t worth sending back - we finished the entrees drank the glass of wine, paid and left. Very disappointing.
Disappointed as kitchen was overwhelmed we were told on busy weekend night. Took about two hours until we received entrees but management made up by offering a complimentary bottle of wine which we happily accepted. 🤗
Good. But I think I make better food with Emeril’s recipes at home and that doesn’t make much sense.
Excellent service, informal ambiance. Had the duck, it was the best I have ever had.
Was there in March of 2019 , excellent food and service . Now , October of 2019 seems things changed so much ! Hardly anyone in the restaurant at 6- 6:30 , very quiet and a bit unusual sense conventions were in town and the streets were crowded . Food wasn't as good as last March , plus the professionalism seemed lost compared to March of 2019 . Wife had to use the restroom and came back and even told the help how nasty . Don't think we'll be back .
Satisfied with the food though my steak was a bit tough. Service lacking- seem everything requested was delayed. Waitress was nice but didn’t seemed fully engaged. Better conversation and service came from busboy.
We had an incredible dining experience here four years ago and were anxious to return. First of all gone were the tablecloths and attentive service. I ordered the shrimp and grits. It arrived almost cold so sent it back. It was hot when I got it back but was so bland and lacking in flavor as to be inedible. In all fairness, my husbands swordfish was delicious. While management did come talk to us and didn’t charge us for my meal, the entire experience was very disappointing.
Pork Chop excellent, Drum Fish to salty. Recommend for folks to try.
Outstanding service, excellent menu and tasty cocktails.
Great great great food! Menu selection was optimal for all of us.
Waitress was great. Loved that you could make reservations. Food was excellent especially the artichoke!
Bottom line: Don't come, it's not worth the money.
We followed the owner's reputation, but we were disappointed to find that the food was not good enough.
The French fries were burnt. The gumho was rich and nice (on the other hand, this is my first time eating it). The SMOKED CHEDDAR CHEESE GRITS was not smoked, the flavors were weak and not rich.
I have tasted loads of pizzas in the world (see my other reviews) and the pizza here is really not worth the money. The tomato sauce was bad and the cheeses were weak. The dough was reasonable.
As far as TAMARIND BARBEQUE GLAZED SHORT RIBS, the meat was fibrous and did not crumble (it was probably not Short Ribs).
The desserts are amateur.
The service was reasonable, until the waiter handed us the bill without us asking (what ?! Who does it ?? it's like they were told: "Get out of here" !!)
The service and food were top notch. Best meal we had in the city but far from most expensive
We ordered the frogs legs and they were seasoned so much that they were not very good. They also added a bottle of wine to our bill that we didn’t have. Manager and another waiter apologized profusely but not a word from our server.....
We had the alligator bites and roasted octopus for appetizers. They were excellent. We also shared the whole red fish. My only complaint was that the restaurant was empty, yet they crammed all couples on to a two top table. Kind of ridiculous to have to manage such a small space when we are surrounded by empty tables for an influx of patrons that never came after the football game. We were there over an 1-1/2hours. Seems like most of the football watchers ended up going straight to the airport or home.
Amazing food and service. Restaurant needs a refresh. Very dated.
Best dinner during our weekend in NOLA! Duck was delicious and stuffed wings was amazing! A bit noisy but seems ubiquitous for French Quarter restaurants
Dinner was fabulous-from the wedge salad to the creole-encrusted salmon. The staff is very attentive, but they don't hover. Family-friendly (several babies were in the restaurant), but also good for date-night. Tables are not crowded together. Highly recommend this restaurant!
Great experience! We will definitely go back!
The restaurant was very loud! I like energetic but it was so loud that I couldn't hear the person across from me. This ruined the romantic part of the evening for us. They could accommodate this better with some sounding panels in the ceiling. It was so loud the people next to us (on both sides) were complaining as well.
Way too noisy service was lacking. Food was good. Would not return
Food was great, we had the drum fish and I’d order it every time! It was perfect. The shrimp and grits were fantastic as well! Our server was Michelle and she did a wonderful job. We were a party of 8 and she was truly service with a smile!
I’d definitely recommend and of course we will be back!
I have been dining at Nola’s for over 25 years. The food is always outstanding. I ordered the Charbroiled pork chop and my wife ordered the seafood drum. We stopped in earlier and a glass of wine was $5. At dinner, my wife ordered a nicer wine (8 oz.) and when I received our bill, the price was $22! We complained to the manager and then it was $15.
Visiting New Orleans with friends, we chose NOLA as one of our 3 dinners out. What a disappointment. Way, way, way to loud. Food was average at best. Overly sweet profile. One piece of octopus under a pile of corn? Seriously. $15 pizza was soggy, overly greasy. Would discourage anyone from visiting here.
Excellent food with outstanding service from Terrence. Large table beside us was loud but had great experience
The mussels were spoiled when we got the entree. We sent it back and did not order another bc we had ordered for appetizer. They tried to charge us for the mussels on the bill and didn’t compensate us at all for the problem. They did take it off the bill, but again just apologized. The meal was good, but not great. The drinks ( 2 different ones) were way too sweet with sour mix. Mediocre at best. Disappointing bc has always been excellent.
Wonderful food and atmosphere. Staff are personable and very professional. Noise level can be high, but well worth the outstanding experience.
The upstairs area was as unattractive as a conference room. Service was great although everything they suggested happened to be “market price”. Food was mediocre at best. Thought the menu was incredibly limited. We used to go every time we came in town but no more. Very disappointing.
I have loved NOLA in the past but this time it was just okay. The fried chicken was soggy and plain. Not much flavor. I like it crispy as it used to be. The best thing was the collard greens. Absolutely wonderful! The service was fair ...waiters attentive to only big tables. May pass in the spring when I am back to New Orleans .
There were 7 of us visiting New Orleans for a business meeting, and we were so excited to try this restaurant. Unfortunately most of this dining experience was disappointing. Staff: Our servers were very nice and welcoming. Raymond did a great job describing the food and giving us recommendations. Appetizers: The corn bread & collard greens were very good. The tuna crudo was good, but it's supposed to come with sorbet and we were told it was dairy free. It showed up at our table (for our dairy-free guest) with ice cream instead of sorbet. Apparently the chef made the change without notifying the servers. The jumbo lump crab cake was mushy and unappetizing. The stuffed chicken wings were tasty.
Mains: Two guests ordered the cedar plank salmon and said it was very tasty. The dish looked amazing. The shrimp & grits got a 2 thumbs up. The char grilled pork chop was a nice display and the flavor was delish, but we got a hunk of fat in every bite (3 at our table). Appx. 1/2 of each chop was fat, not pork. This would have been a good dish if they used quality meat. The jambalaya (I think it was a special) was very dry. The meat was chewy like dried meat, there was no moisture in the dish - it was more like chunky sawdust. Drinks: The wine & NOLA cosmo were good. The Wheatley Mule (special on the menu) was weak. I couldn't taste the vodka at all. I don't drink much and can always feel it when I have a drink before I eat - nothing with this drink. Also I could barely taste the flavor of ginger in the ginger beer - it tasted more like ginger ale.
All in all, it was a disappointing experience for most of us.
It’s always a great experience! The food and drinks are wonderful and the service is always pleasant! Thank you
I made my reservation as planned but someone there canceled our table after we got there. I went back up to find out why it was taking so long to be seated. They told me my reservation was cancelled. They suck. I was there and had a very nice meal.
The drinks were wonderful, the servers were attentive and the meal was great. I did not love the desserts - we tried three, they were ok, but not what I expected.
Incredible experience. It began with excellent service and the food was excellent. The Fat Elvis is a must.
I have been a resident of New Orleans for 35 years and I expected the food to be top notch at this restaurant. I was very dissatisfied of how mediocre the food experience was. The service was not very attentive and the restaurant was extremely loud.
Perfect meal! Great friendly service! See you next trip!
We were greeted promptly at the door, seated almost immediately in the bar area. Christopher was our server. Start to finish, great experience. Thomas H Handy in one glass 2016 Likerick Lane Zinfandel in the other. We started out with the gator bites and andouille sausage, then moved on to the duck confit pasta and rounded out with a roasted half duck, wood fired whole red drum with crawfish etouffe and also a bowl of gumbo with an order of the collards and corn bread. Excellent across the board. Bar manage Adrienne Brady stopped by and chatted me up on bourbon and good local stores to hit. Would recommend this to anyone visiting the hustle and bustle of New Orleans.
Our service was awful. It was incredibly slow. Waiting for over 20 minutes for drinks. Again waiting to order dessert and to get check. Very disappointed. Food was good but large party next to us was screaming obscenities and making inappropriate gestures.
