About Nobuo at Teeter House
Refined Asian-style teahouse by day, funky izakaya by night: Nobuo at Teeter House reflects the fascinating duality of Nobuo Fukuda.
The setting — a turn-of-the-century, wood-floored bungalow, awash in earth tones — emulates the relaxed intimacy of Japan’s izakaya, where friends and business associates gather to eat Japanese-style tapas, drink beer and have fun. Nobuo elevates the custom while staying true to its low brow roots, offering rustic Japanese classics with modern American inflections.
During the day, a short lunch menu is offered, as are exotic, aromatic teas, meant to be sipped and savored over quiet conversation.
In the evening, Nobuo creates"5-Star" cuisine, bringing a Western sensibility to Japanese sushi traditions while combining seasonal ingredients in exciting, inventive ways.

Nobuo at Teeter House Ratings and Reviews
The tables are old and battered. No table cloth. Ours was quite sticky, like a basement bar at 2 AM. My chair was rickety and uncomfortable. The bar selection is very limited and the waiter seemed to be proud of this shortcoming. The food runner asked us to move plates out of the way for her almost every time she delivered a dish. The soft shell crab- not fresh, VERY salty. Foie gras and raw fish dishes were delicious. They think a lot of themselves there.
Hmm would have loved to give a better review, service was excellent and love the location, but the food just wasn't all that. Most of it was good, but none of it had a wow effect, also one major mishap when my date couldn't chew through one of the chicken dishes. We had the tasting menu at $100 / head, and you shouldn't wish you hit Pizza Blanco across the walkway instead for that price :(
Our favorite restaurant, our favorite chef (we’ve followed him for 20 years!) whenever we want special delicious & memorable yet comfortable and quiet. We head here! Thank you Chef for never disappointing us & always surprising! This visit’s surprise? Japanese pumpkin cream with cranberries!!!! Delish!
Phenomenal. One of the best dinners we have ever had. That's saying something. Treat yourself to the tasting menu with wine pairings. We even ordered a couple extra dishes before the dessert course because the food was so good. Sashimi is incredibly unique, each fish served with delicious and complex flavor accents that complement but not overpower the fish. Every server had great knowledge of the food and wine and quickly found an answer for the rare question they couldn't answer. Too bad we live on the other side of the country.
This was a fabulous meal. It was one of the best that we have had. All the sushi was melt in your mouth and the soft shell crap curried lamb were of the highest quality. It was simply amazing. The service was of the highest calibre.
Price was good for the quality. Good sized proportion and knowledgable helpful staff
Well worth the visit. We would defiantly travel here again.
This is only the second restaurant I have found (first one in AZ) that has Okonomiyaki on the menu. Of course I had to order this and it definitely did not disappoint. Food was excellent. The decor was a little disappointing as I would have thought/liked there to be more Japanese decor.
After several years of intending to go to Nobou, we finally made it. Dinner was very good, almost excellent. Very good cocktail list which paired well with the food. Ordered from al la cartel menu. Tasting menu was also offered, but had same items, just more of them. We had five items to share, which was just about right, maybe one more would have been OK. Food was certainly Japanese in style, but quite different than most Japanese restaurants we have been to in the past. Four of the items were excellent, only the salmon sashimi first course was slightly disappointing, with not much flavor, although it looked great on the plate. Fritters with orange marmalade sauce for desert was also excellent.
Prices were quite fair for quality of food. Setting in old home was OK, but didn’t add much to the overall experience. Service was fair, although our server seemed knowledgeable and was friendly.
My wife and I were very pleased with our experience. It was our first visit to Nobuo. Let's start with the meal!!!
Absolutely delightful, everything we tasted we enjoyed, from our cocktails to the last bite of desert. We will be back for more!!!
The waiters taking care of our table was awesome, very sociable, great overview of our meal selection and a pleasant individual.
We were impressed with the interior of the restaurant but were not impressed with the location we were seated at. In the back room, next to a couple. It was a cold and uncomfortable spot.
Regardless the Japanese cuisine was fantastic. My wife and I are avid Japanese food lovers and would recommend it to all.
This is one of our very favorite places. I don't know officially how often the menu is changed, but we seem to always be able to find something new, different and wonderful with every visit. Good selection of Japanese beer. We always love the ambience and the great service.
The waitstaff was unprofessional. The ambience and experience were way different than the food. Overall this restaurant is extremely overrated and I'm very disappointed. I have dined that all of the top restaurants in the valley and this one should not be considered in the top 10 let alone top 100. It looks as though they want to James Beard award in the past but I do not think that that level of service or quality has continued. The food was good but the waitstaff was terrible
After two days, I am still thinking about this amazing meal. That means it was fabulous. It was simply wonderful and I'm sad we've lived here as long as we have and not experienced it. We will definitely go back.
The only reason I rated the ambiance lower was the AC was not working well. But, it was 118 degrees outside, so go figure. Otherwise, everything was simply wonderful.
Don't get 8 -10 course dinner- while tasty, you will leave hungry. Portions were tiny (1/2 a soft shell crab instead of a whole crab). A la cartel menu would've probably beeen a better choice. Male waiter was a little annoying and forgot to describe one dish but came back a couple minutes later after realizing his mistakes, kept trying to take plates/ glasses that weren't ready to be taken. This place doesn't have a la carry sushi which also would've been nice- the sushi was good. Overall, food was good but expensive and very small portions for what you pay.
Upon being seated at 6:15, we informed our waiter that we had an 8:00PM show at Comerica. The wait between each of 4 dishes was lengthy - and longer then any other table in our room. We did not order anything special but actually all favorites per our waiter. The last dish took well over 30 minutes despite asking if there was a problem and reminding our waiter of the time. Two other tables that were seated after us finished their meals with more courses, paid their bill and left the restaurant before our final dish was even brought out. We had a very simple order and it was clear that there had been a mix up between front of house and kitchen. We had to refuse last course because we were now running late. Management never took responsibility and seemed to not care at all despite us being told at the beginning that we had plenty of time to enjoy our meal and get to the theatre with time to spare. . They did not apologize nor try to make any amends. It was an enormous let down after hearing such positive things about Nobuo. This caliber of restaurant deserves exceptional customer service and we found it was even less then mediocre. Good food can not make up for this level of service. A sincere apology and acknowledgement of their mistake would have resulted in a completely different review. Arrogance is not rewarded and competition too stiff to take any customer for granted. Shane on Nobuo.
