Nobuo at Teeter House
The setting — a turn-of-the-century, wood-floored bungalow, awash in earth tones — emulates the relaxed intimacy of Japan’s izakaya, where friends and business associates gather to eat Japanese-style tapas, drink beer and have fun. Nobuo elevates the custom while staying true to its low brow roots, offering rustic Japanese classics with modern American inflections.
During the day, a short lunch menu is offered, as are exotic, aromatic teas, meant to be sipped and savored over quiet conversation.
In the evening, Nobuo creates"5-Star" cuisine, bringing a Western sensibility to Japanese sushi traditions while combining seasonal ingredients in exciting, inventive ways.

My wife and I had a great date night out at Nobuo and enjoyed every minute of it. The food is fantastic, it's very intimate and quiet and the servers are knowledgeable and kind. It's definitely not inexpensive, but the quality of the food makes the value very worthwhile. I definitely recommend it for anyone who is interested in trying ingredients and dishes that you don't find often in the Phoenix area but without the attitude and pomp and circumstance that comes with most inventive and trendy places.
The food was absolutely incredible! Chef Fukuda took great lengths to customize an amazing menu for us. The quality of the ingredients is spectacular and I highly recommend Nobuo.
This place is always amazing.
Nobou never disappoints. We had the curried lamb chops. They were outstanding. Love the clams and mushrooms also. Persimmon and pear pie was a new taste sensation.
Super nice food and service
We LOVED the meal, the experience and the FOOD!!!!!! FANTASTIC!!! Will definitely be back. Delightful!
Nobuo is an absolutely unique dining experience. My brother - a true foodie - was visiting from Boston, and his take was, that not only was the food and service outstanding, but it feels with each course, that the Chef's are cooking only for you - it's that personal and intimate an experience. Every course, and we had twelve of them, was fantastic. I've been to Nobuo three times a year for the last nine years, and all I can say, is this tradition will continue. I've never been disappointed. I just hope Phoenix, in general, doesn't lose sight of what a gem this restaurant truly is. It's not just a place to eat - it's a vision.
Great tasting menu at $80. Nice set up. Very good service. Black Code was perfect.
I was not at all impressed with the food here. I had the duck salad. Duck was chewy and lacked flavor. Greens were grilled, but very little of them. This was more like an appetizer portion. Soft shell crab sandwich was ok. No options for sides or extra food. The waiter forgot to bring me a sample I asked for. Beef choices good. Would suggest a kid's menu. It is right outside the Science Museum, after all.
I would advice to get all the sashimi on the menu, they’re amazing! The tasting menu is also good, but the sashimi are the best!
Reserved as Birthday celebration for 2, but was not acknowledged. No special dessert for Birthday people.
A ridiculously overrated place. Unbelievably expensive for tiny scraps of mediocre food. They were even stingy with bread! One of the worst examples of pretentious nonsense I have ever experienced.
We've dined here several times and it does not disappoint. My favorite menu item is the Hamachi...it's just excellent. It's also nice to be greeted warmly by the staff and Nobuo as well.
The historic home is charming. The service was excellent. The tasting menu was exquisitely plated, served elegantly and at a leisurely pace... and seductively delicious.
We had a fabulous meal at Nobuo - highly recommend!
Excellent food. Quality ingredients, creative, expertly prepared and attractively presented. Great, knowledgeable service.
Excellent food and outstanding service. Highly recommend.
Great ambiance and service. The food is outstanding
This was our second visit to Nobuo first time during restaurant week. The three course meal was incredible, I highly recommend the add-on appetizers offered and the gin sour cocktail.
Went for Restaurant Week. Though everything was great, including service and food, we had a much better meal when we visited previously (not a limited menu).
Enjoy the healthy, yet always delicious and surprising food from chef Nobuo.
We use restaurant week to try out new restaurants to see if they will be regulars on our list, or if we will bring or recommend guests. This restaurant gets a lot of hype; what a disappointment. From the dry hostess to the dry chocolate brownie. Honestly, everything in both of our Bento boxes tasted and appeared to come out of chafing dishes in a buffet. Sad to have to write this review, we had high hopes.
We came for an anniversary dinner on 9/7 and a birthday lunch on 9/12 and had a lovely time! The Tasting Menu was diverse and flavorful, and the lunch menu was just as delicious and filling as the dinner. The atmosphere was quiet and calm, perfect for a small celebration. We highly recommend this restaurant for a wonderful experience and amazing food!
The food here is fabulous. I have spent time me in Japan and the cuisine is equal to some of the finest restaurants in Kyoto and Tokyo.
Great service, but the food was bland and the restaurant had no ambience for a Friday night at 8pm.
Been to Nobuo’s many times and consistency never waivers. We rate it the BEST dining establishment in Phoenix. We were there last when they offered a fixed menu of 6-7 items with ability to add on a few more items. It was excellent and gave us a chance to try a variety of items. Taste was superb as well as presentation. Service was excellent as always. Ambiance wonderful. Can’t wait to return!
First visit to the restaurant. Very surprised to find two floor fans within 15’ of our table to attempt to cool patrons. Thank goodness I wasn’t wearing a jacket. We were uncomfortably hot, the service and food was mediocre at best, and the environment and ambiance was poor. Will not be returning or recommending. We were looking forward to the experience, but were deeply disappointed.
One of the best meals I’ve ever had.
My wife and I had limited experience with Japanese quinine but the waitress was very willing and helpful to help us with our order. A fun experience.
I was very disappointed because I had hoped to really like this place. They were out of the two dishes I found interesting on their website. I found the food very overpriced compared with its quality. The cured salmon was leathery and tasteless. It was quite off-putting. I don't like writing a negative review but unless they improve substantially, I would save my money and go elsewhere.
Fantastic restaurant. Food was incredible and imaginative
Delicious Japanese style dining but several steps above a regular sushi restaurant. Highly unique and a very quaint setting. We go back for special occasions when we can.
Excellent experience all around
We heard a lot of good complement for Fukuda-san. This summer special demonstrated his talent on creativity and ingredient balance. well done!
This was not our first time at Nobuo. We were excited to see the August Thursday night special. As always the food was great and the value was as well. Chef Nobuo never dissappoints with his wonderful presentaions and the high quality of his delicious food.
We tried another Japanese Restaurant in Scottsdale (two words starting with "R" and A") and there was a huge difference in quality. Nobuo was truly "authentic" Japanese and we did not have a single bad dish. The ambiance is not as fancy and the A/C was not the best, but it was tolerable and the food more than made up for the environment. The valet at the pizza place will accommodate you if you ask nicely; otherwise, parking is in the back in some garage.
Great restaurant with excellent staff and service. My ONLY complaint is that they are always out of at least one thing on the menu.
Teeter House just feels like an old house .... I was kinda hoping for more tourist traditional Japanese service with lots of hai dozos. The FOOD was fabulous and therefore I will return for a dinner service in the future... for me, it's really all about the food..
The food was incredible. We absolutely loved the dishes we ordered. We opted to order a la carte rather than the tasting menu, only because wanted more raw options than what was on the tasting menu that night. We will also likely book a personalized omakase tasting at some point in the future, but this needs to be done in advance. Otherwise, the tasting menu they had looked great. I highly recommend this as a date night or special occasion, as it might be a little pricey for an every day meal. Also, I doubt it would be a kid favorite. The atmosphere was also excellent being that it is in an old historical home converted into a restaurant, similar to many other downtown Phoenix establishments. We absolutely loved it, and we will be back!
The food was outstanding! Best dinner ever eaten in Phoenix. Just very loud and the appetizer fork we were given to eat our apple dessert wasn't appropriate. Cheers for the food, though.
