Nobu San Diego Ratings and Reviews
The flavors of the food were amazing! This review pertains to the overall vibe of the restaurant, prepare to send big $$ on over priced appetizer sized meals, talking over the music and loud conversations, and being so close to the table next to you it’s awkward if you DONT talk to them.
We got this restaurant recommended and left it disappointed. The food is great Japanese stuff but not outstanding in any way if you know Asian cuisine. It was very noisy and we were surrounded by business people who wanted to impress their clients. The prices are high and the value that we got were eating from usual cheap one-time-use Bamboo chopsticks and our bowls for the starter soup were plastic...really? For a high price I expect a high standard. The quality of the fish was very good but that should be a given thing for their prices, right? Their staff is really friendly and they did their very best.
We had a great dinner but we sat at Sushi Bar- the servers hovered over us EVERY minute. Taking plates before done, glasses before done. It was like they were trying to have quick turnover so they get more tips or something. It didnt work and have never been bugged like that before. We will eat at a table next time for sure and we hope they leave us be and let us eat at our leisure not theirs.
Sorry but I just didn't think the food was very special. Only one out or our many dishes was stellar. The sushi nigiri was just average. There are a lot of sushi places with better quality sushi than here - especially for the price. It was very expensive and I would have happily paid that price for a stellar meal but I didn't feel that the quality of the food matched the price. It was a very nice looking restaurant with lounge type seating but also very loud.
We are huge Nobu fans! This time we were again blown away by the service and quality and taste of the dishes we chose. Server was knowledgable and helped us decide what to eat and drink. It was an anniversary dinner and they surprised us with a small dessert!
The food was top notch. I’m not sure if our server was new. We were there for restaurant week and inquired as to what was included with the assorted sushi platter. His response was “it has some cut up sushi and a roll”. We ultimately didn’t go with the mystery platter and were very pleased with all 4 courses. The food couldn’t be better.
Disappointed. My wife and I dined here this weekend and the service was far below expectation for a meal at more than 100 dollars per person. The food was average compared to similar high end Japanese restaurants but the service was particularly disappointing. We arrived on time for our reservation at 9:45 on a Friday and by 10:15 we had been seated and received our drinks and ordered appetizers. Our first course arrived at 10:30 and our waiter told us it was last call for food so we had to order all of our food. Well enough but then four dishes arrived about 10 minutes later and jammed onto our table. Our waiter left and handed us to someone else as it was clear they were closing down the restaurant. I felt even worse for the people who arrived after us for their reservation at 10. They had all of their food delivered at one time and the check soon after. Why take reservations at these times if you expect people to eat and leave in an hour. There are many other high quality and service Japanese restaurants in the area, I recommend you look elsewhere.
So of course I go to Nobu during restaurant week. It was busy! Very busy! I made a later reservation thinking that the crowd may have died down, nope. The servers were nice, but it seemed as though we were rushed. Rushed to order. Rushed in between entres. I’m not happy about that.
Great menu and restaurant. Everything we ordered - we enjoyed. I️ recommend trying the black cod and seasoned edamame. Ate one night in the dining areas and another night at the bar and had a great experience both times. Loved the energy of everyone working at the restaurant too A+++.
We were really disappointed. You always hear about Nobu being a hot spot with great food, but the food was just slightly above your standard Japanese restaurant/sushi joint, the ambiance left a lot to be desired, and the value was quite poor. I can understand charging an arm and a leg if the food is extraordinary or the experience is truly unique, but Nobu provided neither incredible food nor an exceptional experience.
My husband’s birthday and restaurant week. Food is good but Portion was very small. More like sampler menu. We ordered extra steak but still hungry after dinner. No special treat for birthday request. Food came out all at the same table me. Finished eating in 20 mins.
