Designed by architect David Rockwell, Nobu Next Door evokes the Japanese seaside: Japanese fishing nets hang from the ceiling and a wall made of nori (Japanese seaweed) blankets the entrance. The large display of lit sake bottles serves as a classic accompaniment to Japanese food. The atmosphere buzzes with the same energy and excitement as Nobu while maintaining an identity of its own.

Overall a thoroughly unspecial/mediocre evening. As it was our first visit, we asked the server for suggestions. We went there for sushi, and wound up steered toward several hot and cold dishes before getting to sushi. Rock lobster tempura was fantastic. Black cod was sweet enough to be dessert. The sushi was the best part, as expected, however because we were dissuaded from sticking to the sushi menu, we weren't able to enjoy it as much.
Super loud environment, which would be fine if you weren't trying to talk over the person seated next to you; which was akin to subway seating proximity. Skip the brand name and go somewhere that focuses on quality.
A terrific letdown for an engagement/birthday celebration.
Our waiter provide menu suggestions that were very interesting, great food quality worth to visit. Plates are small so plan to order 2 -3 plates by person.
When dining at upscale restaurants (and although Nobu Next Door is the casual version, it still boasts the same menu as Nobu) my husband and I order the chef's tasting menu as a general rule. Well, Nobu was a complete disappointment. It wasn't bad, but it was very uninventive. For the price, I want more than mackerel, miso soup and same old, same old. Felt like the sushi 101 instead of a chef's tasting menu. This I write as we were recently blown away at Morimoto in Philly. I'd say skip Nobu. NYC has amazing sushi at half the cost.
Wonderful experience! This was our first time dining in New York, and it could not have been better! If you're brave, take on the Omakase menu and prepare to be taken on an adventure! Will definitely return.
The tables against the booth are WAY too close to each other. Feel like I was having dinner with the two separate parties on each side of our table. Food was excellent as always.
We celebrated a friend's birthday and this was a perfect splurge that felt like a celebration. The food is amazing. Must try the yellowtail with jalapeno and miso cod. The rock shrimp tempura is a little heavier but also pretty amazing.
It's Nobu! Great food and great service. Went there with my wife and daughter for her birthday dinner. Everything was amazing!
Great experience - everything from the food to the waitstaff. Amazing
Going to Nobu is always a treat, and I "treat" it as such. The entire wait staff has a great memory and always make you feel welcome. Looking forward to going to their new location downtown.
Excellent service as always
Please bury the kelp appetizer...no fit for a cow. It has an unpleasant texture and sticks in your teeth.
We went here for restaurant week. Food was great. Sushi was fresh. Desserts were yummy. Unless you're sitting in the round tables, seating is a little cramped. Service was excellent.
Our table was near the front door so I wasn't crazy about the draft and wind. That said, the food was delicious, the service was impeccable, and the atmosphere was upbeat. The rock shrimp tempera was heavenly; and the sushi brought me back to Tokyo. I've had black sesame desserts in different shapes and forms but never in cheesecake--this is now my favorite dessert.
Outstanding food, portions could be a little bigger
Great food, loved the menu the only downside was that the server was a bit rushed..
Went here for restaurant week. The 1st and 2nd courses were incredible. The tenderloin of beef was very memorable. Melted in your mouth like butter. The sushi tho, in my opinion was no better tasting than any reasonable sushi joint. Surprisingly I was underwhelmed by the sushi.
Make it a special occasion place because you can get carried away very quickly and easily spend 100s of dollars.
Impeccable service fresh and tasty food, memorable deserto
Nice food and service!
Nobu Next Door deserves its excellent reputation. The food, cocktails and service were superb.
It was fabulous, food was nice and servers were very professional!
We attended Nobu Next Door for restaurant week. The appetizers were small, but the perfect amount for tasting to get the full experience of the flavors. The yellowtail jalapeno is a must! The entree was pretty classic sushi - but exceptional quality. We never order dessert when we go to sushi, but since it came with the restaurant week menu we tried the sesame cheesecake. We were pleasantly surprised - it was delicious and very interesting.

Very disappointed. Got the cod and it was outrageously small compared to previous visits and to my wife's. Pretty shocking and only lasted 3 bites. I would say it was about half the size of my wifes and I just did not want to complain. Please fix this for future guests.
Very nice food with a good vegan option for one of the party.
I wouldn't personally go back to Nobu next door. It was very loud, and I could hardly have a conversation with my family at the table. It was EXTREMELY over priced also. The food was just good, not exceptional in my opinion. In Manhattan, you can get sushi just as good if not better for a way better price.
Always a great occasion at Nobu! The food is amazing, so fresh and so delicious!
Nobu is overhyped and does a horrible job curating the menu. At a restuarant that serves sushi, we were openly told by the waiter not to order sushi. The dishes we did try were the restuarant's "most popular", including the rock shrimp tempura and crispy rice and spicy tuna. The spicy sauce on the rock tempura was almost offensive in it's blandness- i actually had to add soy sauce to make it taste like anything, and the crispy rice was not innovative enough to make up for it's simple, uninteresiting flavors. Do not come here with expecation of finer dining
Really enjoyed the experience. A more casual vibe than the other locations. Fabulous crispy rice!
The menu here is the same as the original Nobu but ambiance much more casual. They are still delivering consistently delicious food and very high level of service.
Amazing! Had fish I have never had before and is all delicious. One of the most memorable meals ever!.
Amazing food and great service! I had the Wagyu steak over a hot stone and it was heavenly
I returned to Nobu Next Door for the first time in 16 years, to celebrate my husband's birthday. The food is still as terrific as I remembered, the service is very gracious and professional, and the decor is pleasantly underwhelming. My only complaint was the 80s-era Afro-funk on the sound system -- not too too loud but still a jarring note in what was otherwise a cozy symphony of tasty tidbits accompanied by your choice of high-end Saki or well-crafted cocktails.
Amazing food and wonderful service
Food & service were outstanding. We celebrated a milestone anniversary. The staff was so attentive and helped us to enjoy an amazing experience.
Great food, waiter was helpful with the food selection
The Yellowtail with jalapeno appetizer is awesome. The sauce makes the dish. Service is also extraordinary.
had a lovely business dinner with good client. service was perfect. food was fantastic. so much enjoyed the timely delivery of each dish and the manner of service. will be back again.
One of my favorite restaurants. I've never had a bad experience.
This place is always incredible
Awful service and the manager just surveyed rather than take action
