This restaurant is permanently closed. Nobu Next Door, which opened as an extension of the original Nobu in 1998, has taken on a life of its own. Its menu mirrors Nobu New York's and offers Nobu To Go. With its late night dining and music, Nobu Next Door tends to draw a more spirited crowd. The restaurant satisfies spontaneous diners who need the Nobu fix, but didn’t plan ahead, by offering first come, first serve table seating between the hours of 7:00pm and 9:00pm. Nobu Next Door received a three star review from The New York Times.

Designed by architect David Rockwell, Nobu Next Door evokes the Japanese seaside: Japanese fishing nets hang from the ceiling and a wall made of nori (Japanese seaweed) blankets the entrance. The large display of lit sake bottles serves as a classic accompaniment to Japanese food. The atmosphere buzzes with the same energy and excitement as Nobu while maintaining an identity of its own.

Overall a thoroughly unspecial/mediocre evening. As it was our first visit, we asked the server for suggestions. We went there for sushi, and wound up steered toward several hot and cold dishes before getting to sushi. Rock lobster tempura was fantastic. Black cod was sweet enough to be dessert. The sushi was the best part, as expected, however because we were dissuaded from sticking to the sushi menu, we weren't able to enjoy it as much.

Super loud environment, which would be fine if you weren't trying to talk over the person seated next to you; which was akin to subway seating proximity. Skip the brand name and go somewhere that focuses on quality.

A terrific letdown for an engagement/birthday celebration.

Our waiter provide menu suggestions that were very interesting, great food quality worth to visit. Plates are small so plan to order 2 -3 plates by person.

When dining at upscale restaurants (and although Nobu Next Door is the casual version, it still boasts the same menu as Nobu) my husband and I order the chef's tasting menu as a general rule. Well, Nobu was a complete disappointment. It wasn't bad, but it was very uninventive. For the price, I want more than mackerel, miso soup and same old, same old. Felt like the sushi 101 instead of a chef's tasting menu. This I write as we were recently blown away at Morimoto in Philly. I'd say skip Nobu. NYC has amazing sushi at half the cost.

Wonderful experience! This was our first time dining in New York, and it could not have been better! If you're brave, take on the Omakase menu and prepare to be taken on an adventure! Will definitely return.

The tables against the booth are WAY too close to each other. Feel like I was having dinner with the two separate parties on each side of our table. Food was excellent as always.

We celebrated a friend's birthday and this was a perfect splurge that felt like a celebration. The food is amazing. Must try the yellowtail with jalapeno and miso cod. The rock shrimp tempura is a little heavier but also pretty amazing.

Going to Nobu is always a treat, and I "treat" it as such. The entire wait staff has a great memory and always make you feel welcome. Looking forward to going to their new location downtown.

Please bury the kelp fit for a cow. It has an unpleasant texture and sticks in your teeth.

We went here for restaurant week. Food was great. Sushi was fresh. Desserts were yummy. Unless you're sitting in the round tables, seating is a little cramped. Service was excellent.

Our table was near the front door so I wasn't crazy about the draft and wind. That said, the food was delicious, the service was impeccable, and the atmosphere was upbeat. The rock shrimp tempera was heavenly; and the sushi brought me back to Tokyo. I've had black sesame desserts in different shapes and forms but never in cheesecake--this is now my favorite dessert.
