Nobu Downtown Ratings and Reviews
The venue looks beautiful and there is enough space between the tables to maintain privacy despite the number of seats. Also the light is perfect, ideal both for business or romantic dinners.
The food: extraordinary. Complex but clean flavours will surprise you.
It was my first time to the new location. I had been to the old more intimate location in Tribeca. As expected, the food was amazing. For the a large restaurant, it was not too noisy and the service was good. My only complaint is when I received the telephone call to confirm my reservation the representative from Nobu informed me that I would need to finish my dinner by 8:30pm. It just a little tacky and put it the category of Applebees. Of course, my dinner was over by 8:30pm and I had a cocktail, starter, entree and dessert. Whoever is making such statements at Nobu and cheapening such a quality restaurant with a superb reputation.
The food was just as good as it always is but the service was subpar. Staff was completely lacking which put a damper on what was a great dinner. Water glasses were almost always empty, we had to beg for cocktails. Very frustrating experience. I will return just with lower expectations.
Brought 9 friends with me and highly regret the experience. To start ... I’ve been to Nobu ... many tines. Our visit last night may be my last. What happened the the black miso cod? Used to be my Nobu staple. We sent back 2 orders .... twice. No offer to make it up to us. I ended eating 1/2 of a friend’s appetizer. Overdone and dry. Took my martini before I had finished it ... was about 1/3 left ... so complained and received a comped drink. Service was spotty. Venue is gorgeous. Simply gorgeous. But honestly the fish at Haru down the street would have been a better choice for last night. Maybe it was just an off night. But for the prices we paid, I will question going back again.
Food was very good, as expected, and the service was helpful as well. The one aspect that left me cold was the reservation process. I made a reservation on open table, received an open table reminder 3 days prior (okay), received a text from Nobu two days prior asking that I confirm (mostly okay) and received a phone call one day prior letting me know that they received the confirmation, but that they may need the table by 9:15p due to a second seating (not okay, weird/rude). I asked if that meant we would be asked to leave at 9:00p and they assured me they would never do that . . . .
Great booking for a birthday dinner. We appreciated the excellent service, tasty dishes, and stunning interior design.
We focused on “Nobu’s classics”: miso black cod, yellowtail sashimi, rock shrimps. We were not disappointed.
The restaurant could turn into quite a scene, with attractive women dressed to impress and “selfies” to capture the outfits :)
This was my first visit to this new Nobu location. And everything was as expected for a place under Nobu's name with one exception - the seafood ceviche was a huge disappointment. It was neither a seafood nor a ceviche - very dry with few chunks of tasteless shrimp meat. I don't think that a chef/restaurateur of such caliber can allow this to happen, even during the restaurant week. Again, everything else was very good.
