Nobu Fifty Seven, the first uptown New York location for legendary chef Nobu Matsuhisa, opened to much anticipation in the summer of 2005. Nobu's co-owners are his longtime partners: renowned restaurateur Drew Nieporent, Oscar-winning actor Robert De Niro, and Hollywood film producer Meir Teper. The restaurant showcases Nobu's signature new style Japanese cuisine with classic dishes such as Tiradito Nobu Style and Black Cod Miso, and the hibachi table. The restaurant received three stars from the New York Times.

Designed by David Rockwell, Nobu Fifty Seven evokes fluidity and the imagery of an Asian river with curves and details of abalone shell chandeliers, sliced bamboo stalks in terrazzo tiles, scorched ash tables and Japanese quilt fabric. Sake barrels imported from Japan tower over the first floor bar counter as diners make way to the upstairs dining room. Burnished woods, rich hues and soft lighting create an ambiance of elegance and refinement.

The food is absolutely wonderful! We sat at the sushi bar and the sushi chefs were very friendly and engaging. We love Nobu whenever we are in NYC!

The interior is magnificent. You can first have a drink at the downstair bar, then you go up.
De dining room is enormous, but still you have enough privacy threw compartments. De noise-level is quite high, but we were jetlagged (so maybe we were a bit critical).
The food was heavenly!

I was visiting NYC and love sushi and like special places so this seemed like a good fit. Food was really good, the one thing it did was make me really know I have a great one right in my backyard of Roseville, CA.

I love the original Nobu. 57 feels more “chainy”. It’s awfully dark in that huge space and not particularly inviting. The food was great-not exceptional. That said, the service WAS exceptional, and the Nobu Chardonnay is fantastic.

We had a high expectation because it was highly recommended by some friends. It was a good experience (we had the most expensive tasting menu), although the ambiance was a little bit too noisy (there was a big group right next to us with 7 kids) (I thought I have read it was not kid friendly restaurant). The diversity of different fish was great! A little too expensive but it was worth it. Definitely I recomend!!!

We were expecting for Nobu to be a special experience and it was a true disappoint. The atmosphere was cafeteria like and can get better sushi at my local restaurant in jersey.

The service was impeccable. Our server was friendly, humorous, knowledgeable and helpful ( I have a gluten allergy). The bus people were very attentive without being annoying. The food was delicious and special.

The decor of the restaurant is close to that of a chain restaurant. It is dark, no place mats or table cloths. UGLY. Which wouldn’t matter except for the fact that we nearly fell over when we saw our check. The place does not present like a high end restaurant but the tab does.

Although the food is delicious, we won’t be going back because if we are going to spend a lot of money on dinner, we want to feel like we are somewhere special

As always, the food was spectacular! What really impressed us was our server, without our asking him, realized a diner at the next table had a piercing voice. He took it upon himself to find us a quiet corner table where we had a lovely conversation, were able to people watch, and enjoy our dinner. We will definitely return!

Sorry to say , we had very high expectations for Nobu 57 but found the experience to be overrated and overpriced . Food was ok. Nothing terrible, nothing great. For what we paid we expected more. Shrimp tempura was good . Salmon tacos were fishy .

The wait staff was amazing. There were so many of them making sure you have a wonderful meal. The sushi was very fresh and came out quickly. The restaurant was very large and a great place for group celebrations. The atmosphere was very upscale and stylish.

I was very disappointed with their food especially sushi. Not worth the value - definitely over priced. I have been to many both top rated and not top rated sushi restaurants and by far Nobu 57's sushi was not what I had expected. This restaurant felt more like a tourist attraction restaurant. Our waiter was very friendly and knowledgeable. I was a bit turned off when they charged for a couple of extra pieces of fruit that came with one of the dishes.
I may opt to meet co-workers or friends at their bar for after work drinks but definitely not the restaurant for meals.

Not recommended for a leisurely evenings dining. Food delivered fast in any random order so its possible that someone will be left without anything to eat for a while if you don't all share the same food, and plates cleared away constantly while you eat your last mouthful - or somebody else is still eating. Personally that gives me a feeling of being rushed for a fast turnover of tables. Food and wine quality is good (as it should be for the price) although my shrimps were overcooked which is a shame. Despite liking a vibrant scene I found it so noisy that conversation was difficult with anyone other than the person directly next to you. In and out in little over an hour several hundred dollars lighter.

Terrible service. Inattentive and slow even at 9:30pm with many empty tables. This place is all about the scene, not the food. Quite disappointing.

We did expect a fine-dining experience, to salubrate my 50th birthday. But it was way too noicy with a lot of children and very loud music.
I usually like loud restaurants, but this one is too expensive to get away with it unfortunately.

Been to other Nobu locations and was not impressed with this location. The interior ambiance of this place was what I was expecting. Felt like a restaurant that is trying to be sleek and elevated, but wasn't so much. Service was great and good is great, just expected it to feel like a nicer place considering it is a bit pricey.

way too loud for an upscale restaurant. service was slow - dinner took 4 hours. waitress had to ask everyone "can i clear the table"every time even when our plates were obviously empty, so it was annoying and interrupted our conversation every time.
