About Nobu Fifty Seven

Nobu Fifty Seven, the first uptown New York location for legendary chef Nobu Matsuhisa, opened to much anticipation in the summer of 2005. Nobu's co-owners are his longtime partners: renowned restaurateur Drew Nieporent, Oscar-winning actor Robert De Niro, and Hollywood film producer Meir Teper. The restaurant showcases Nobu's signature new style Japanese cuisine with classic dishes such as Tiradito Nobu Style and Black Cod Miso, and the hibachi table. The restaurant received three stars from the New York Times.

Designed by David Rockwell, Nobu Fifty Seven evokes fluidity and the imagery of an Asian river with curves and details of abalone shell chandeliers, sliced bamboo stalks in terrazzo tiles, scorched ash tables and Japanese quilt fabric. Sake barrels imported from Japan tower over the first floor bar counter as diners make way to the upstairs dining room. Burnished woods, rich hues and soft lighting create an ambiance of elegance and refinement.

I had a delightful birthday lunch at Nobu 57. The spicy scallops were just amazing as was the sashimi. The service was lovely from start to finish and the birthday dessert of molten chocolate cake and green tea ice cream, complete with candle, was fantastic! Now, let's just see if that birthday wish comes true!

It’s always solid , great sushi and cooked food, wonderful hip ambiance, we usually only eat lunch there so it is often a lot of business people and upscale lunchers . It’s not cheap but you get what you pay for.

Disappointing experience. Sushi was average. All hot dishes were heavily over seasoned to the point that the flavor of the primary item was distinguishable. This included every sauced/dressed item in the lunch bento box (seared tuna salad, rock shrimp, black cod). Tempura was bland. The shishito pepper appetizer was the best part of our meal. They were very good, but the meal went steeply downhill from there. At Nobu’s price level, the food really needs to be outstanding and creative (or at least exquisitely authentic). It wasn’t. However, service was good and the decor/ambiance is very nice. I had a great experience at Nobu’s Tribeca location years ago. This lunch did not measure up to that. This was our least favorite dining experience during a 4 day visit to NYC.

The food is always fresh and special. I highly recommend the chef tasting menu, as you'll experience food and flavors you may never have imagined. Always ask your server about the menu, they are very knowledgeable and will help your culinary experience. Trust in what they do here, because it's amazing!

We dined here last year on a trip to NYC and it was so memorable that we decided we needed to come back. Both times we chose to do the Omakase (middle price point) and we were blown away by the chef's creativity. This time was completely different than the last. Service is fantastic. Servers are friendly, professional, extremely knowledgeable. All of our questions were answered and we were not rushed. Kudos to both Felix and Lindsey.

I haven't been here in years. I remember it being good so thought I'd give it another try. Our waiter was nice and attentive. Wine was OK. Sushi and food were good but nothing spectacular. I've been to plenty of other sushi restaurants that are just as good if not better and less expensive. You're really just paying for the name. If you haven't been here, you should definitely should try it. Its probably fun with a big group but I wouldn't make it a regular hang out. Overall the food was fine.

I have dined at several Nobu restaurants around the world because I have come to trust that I will always have a delicious meal, served in exquisite environment, with the highest standards of service. My prix fixe lunch at the Manhattan Nobu was fantastic and I would especially recommend it to diners visiting for the first time.

This week’s trip to New York and Nobu 57 was exclusively for mine and my husband’s anniversary. We were suggested this restaurant by a friend back home in Dallas. When we got there, the server took a very long time to take our drink order. After he brought my husband his water, he disappeared again for about 20 minutes. We ordered 1 appetizer, not realizing the size of the appetizers, and our server left us again for 25 minutes and just kept disappearing. The food was absolutely awful. The appetizers were undercooked on the inside and barely cooked on the outside and our sushi rolls were over salted in their ingredients. We were very disappointed with our experience at Nobu 57 and will not recommend anyone or come back to this establishment at all.

LIFE CHANGING EXPERIENCE!

My family and I eat a LOT of Sushi and Japanese food all over the country...... but each and every one of us agreed that our dinner at NOBU was indeed a life changing experience for anyone who truly appreciates creative cooking, fine presentation, and superlative ingredients. The Sake is also of the highest quality and absolutely worth enjoying for the appropriate portions of the dinner. ( A LOT !!!)
Our waiter was also SUPERLATIVE ....... he was HIGHLY knowledgeable regarding all aspects of the menu and it's little quirks ...... and in fact he recommended a few items that I would have passed over, that when served were SOOOOO EXCELLENT that we actually had to take a minute to catch our breathe at the unexpected delight we experienced.
IF we could have........ we would have completed our dinner and started ALL OVER again right then and there !!
Additionally, the mood and demeanor of every member of the staff was PERFECT and made us feel welcome and treasured as their dinner guests despite the fame and fortune of this restaurant ....... (where other restaurants seem to quickly get that "superior" attitude with success)
I would urge EVERYONE not to miss the opportunity to dine at NOBU 57.

It's an excelent restaurant. To the point that i went there 2 nights in a row, while i was in New York for business for 5 days. I love both the Japanese and the Peruvian cuisine and i found the combination at Nobu perfect. The staff were very friendly too, and the prices were fair, at least for somebody coming from Switzerland. i look forward to going again once i am back in New York

I still like the original Nobu best. Nobu 57 is large and very noisy and busy. Fast good service by knowledgeable polite service but hectic. You get the idea that they want to serve you well and get you out. Food was delicious except for the sushi which was good but not great. so go with all the other dishes. the crispy rice cakes with tuna tartare is excellent as is the yellowtail with pimento. mushroom dishes all good and excellent cocktails. Desserts also very good.

This place must be living on reputation. We knew it was going to be expensive given the brand and being in NYC but were not prepared for how small the portions of everything was going to be. We ordered 5 different items. 2 were outstanding but small and the 3 others were nothing special at all. I've had better sushi at half the price. $24 for 6 slivers of yellow tail was a joke. Our food bill for 2 was $150 and I could have eaten the entire thing and still been hungry. Service was fine, not bad not great, did have to wait a while for our 5th item. I sarcastically loved how the waitress gave us a drink menu and then said she would come back with the food menu after we had ordered drinks. We were going to order drinks anyways but it almost felt like a requirement to buy an $18 cocktail in order to then purchase food.

As it was my first experience, I appreciated the fact that our waitress took time to explain the menu in terms of how to order and expectations. The Grapefruit On The Rocks cocktail I had was delicious, I could drink that right now. We weren't rushed and if we needed help understanding anything, we could ask. I cannot wait to go back.
