Japanese
Nobu Fifty Seven, the first uptown New York location for legendary chef Nobu Matsuhisa, opened to much anticipation in the summer of 2005. Nobu's co-owners are his longtime partners: renowned restaurateur Drew Nieporent, Oscar-winning actor Robert De Niro, and Hollywood film producer Meir Teper. The restaurant showcases Nobu's signature new style Japanese cuisine with classic dishes such as Tiradito Nobu Style and Black Cod Miso, and the hibachi table. The restaurant received three stars from the New York Times.

Designed by David Rockwell, Nobu Fifty Seven evokes fluidity and the imagery of an Asian river with curves and details of abalone shell chandeliers, sliced bamboo stalks in terrazzo tiles, scorched ash tables and Japanese quilt fabric. Sake barrels imported from Japan tower over the first floor bar counter as diners make way to the upstairs dining room. Burnished woods, rich hues and soft lighting create an ambiance of elegance and refinement.

Server was extremely pushy. We felt rushed through the entire meal and it was quite stressful with how she treated us as we dined. Very unfriendly and made us feel like we were not welcome there.

The sushi was not fresh. Maybe day after holiday you served us leftovers?

Waiters were polite and everything went well, but we always had to ask more water or more wine. No one came to ask if we needed more, even our glasses were empty. And by the time we got more wine we had already finished the course.
So we didn’t feel like we were taken care of the way you are supposed to feel in this kind of restaurant.
And if there would have been even little bit of selling or even recommending anything it would have made our experience easier.
No one asked if the food was good and actually crispy softshell crab was burnt, but we didn’t have a change to tell a waiter and we were hungry so we eat it, even tho it was not good.
Our first course that came really fast was a wrong dish, we told this immediately but the right dish came 3 courses later and we would have wanted to start with that one.
But food was good if softshell crab won’t be count in.

Fantastic! Our waiter gave us suggestions of popular dishes from the menu and helped us in trying new things. All the dishes were delicious and I can’t wait to go back for another special occasion.

It was super busy, food took forever to come and they provided a poor service. I wouldn't reccomend it at all.

No idea why anyone would rate this less than five stars. We happened to have dined there on Valentine's day, which is when most restaurants are not best judged in my mind. We all had the omakase menu and it each item was gorgeous in presentation and taste, and the taste was differentiated well in each item. Beautiful! Service was attentive. There were probably a dozen sushi chef's working away at the counter. The one downside was the cost, it was not inexpensive. Previously we had dined at Nobu in Japan and we all thought that Nobu on 57th was as special an experience in the US as it was in Japan.

Our server was Carlo. He was very attentive and knowledgeable! We came all the way from Chicago just for Nobu. He really took a good care of us and made my husband’s birthday special. We will definitely coming back again!

Simply the best sushi that I've ever had, bar none - and, that includes fresh catch, while still on the boat.

Lovely location and the staff was very attentive, though not particularly friendly. The food was delicious and beautifully prepared, but, as suspected, portions were uber tiny and overpriced.
It was a nice visit to say I’ve been there, but I won’t be itching to go back again. I will stay home and make tiny tacos the size of lime wedges myself. The sushi, however, was worth the trip.
