NM Cafe at Neiman Marcus - Walnut Creek Ratings and Reviews
Loved the food, but wish the service was better. Maybe an off day? Seemed woefully understaffed with 2 servers for a packed mid week lunch. Our service certainly suffered as it looked like our server was nearly running from table to table. Salads were great as always. My baby kale & turkey salad was quite good and beautifully presented. Of course you can’t go wrong with the complimentary broth and divine popovers they serve.
My husband and I had never eaten at NM Cafe but had heard about their popovers, so on a quiet Thursday at lunch, we gave it a try. We were wowed. Popovers! Lobster chowder. Their Pinot Noir by the glass. The consommé amuse bouche. The crab cake sliders. The Walnut Creek salad. All that we ordered was SO delicious. Then we received NM chocolate chip cookies and little chocolate pieces upon our departure. Lovely service in an easy/elegant place. We recommend the NM Cafe highly.
Although some people may feel that NM is snooty the NM Cafe does not feel that way at all. It is a special place to have lunch with friends. The service is great. The salads are very good as is the complimentary puffed pastry with strawberry butter and chicken consommé. My 7 year old daughter loves going there. They make you feel special.
I've been to NM cafe several times since they opened in WC. This visit was disappointing. The classic NM serving of chicken salad has really been reduced from previous visits. It's still delicious and from what I recall, the price hasn't changed, however, it appears like management has changed the serving size. Very disappointing, given the cost as well as a server (who we liked and gave us great service) asking us if anyone had previously dined at the Cafe just before we were presented the bill. Being an honest person, I replied yes, as I've dine their previously. It was my decision to treat my friend and daughter-in-law to lunch. Given how many restaurant choices there are in Walnut Creek, I could have suggested another location. My guests were presented with a NM silver bag with a huge chocolate chip cookie. I understand the gesture, but, given I paid the bill and it was my choice to dine at NM, imagine how that made me feel. Not only was I disappointed in my entree, my friends were embarrassed that they walked away with a treat and I did not. Since you asked for my opinion, I've shared my thoughts. I will think twice, given the serving size of my favorite option and how I was made to feel as a guest. Again, I would think twice as a mgmt decision, if this policy should continue. Increase the serving(s) of your food and skip risking the chance of disappointing your long-time supporters of the Cafe. Or, present your all of your guests with a smaller cc cookie. Either way, this restaurant was a disappointment overall.
Wonderful go to cafe for get together girls shopping day. My friend and i were taking an 18 year old, college bound young woman for a whirkwind shopping trip in walnut creek. All had a great time and our waiter brought our young student a gift wrapped box of chocolate chip cookies when he learned we were celebrating. Great salads and theor fab rolls. Loved it. A little respite in this crazy world.
We always love the cafe's at NM. But the past couple trips to Walnut Creek have been disappointing. The service is tremendously slow. The food clearly sat under heat lamps for far too long and was dried out. And it was frustrating to have a reservation, get there early, have several open tables but told to wait 20 min until reservation. Several walk-ins were in front and behind us. The hostess said she'd call when the table was ready, but we never got a call. All the walk-ins were seated when we checked in again.
I HADN'NT BEEN BACK FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS, AND IT WAS A REAL DISAPPOINTMENT.
THE POPOVERS DIDN'T EVEN TASTE AS GOOD. OILY AND LITTLE FLAVOR. I HAD THE SPECIAL
GREEN SALAD WITH LARGE SCALLOPS...BLAND, BLAND, BLAND. FIRST THE FISH WAS VERY
SMELLY WHEN IT WAS SERVED...THE SCALLOPS WERE TOO RAW. THE DRESSING WAS TASTELESS
SO I ASKED FOR BALSAMIC VINEGAR TO ADD FLAVOR AND HIDE THE FISHY SMELL. THE GREENS
WERE ORDINARY, AND TIRED. AND I ONLY HAD TO PAY 31.00 !!! THE OTHER DINER HAD THE
FILET MIGNON WITH SOME VEGGIES AND POTATOES. THEIR WAS A GRAVY ON THE SMALL
STEAK, AND IT TASTED PRETTY GOOD. THE VEGGIES HAD NO FLAVOR ... ONLY HAD TO PAY
38.00 FOR THIS! THE BEST I CAN SAY IS THE DECOR IS LOVELY!
I WON'T BE BACK...TOO MANY OTHER GOOD RESTAURANTS..WITH MORE REASONABLE PRICES.
We had a wonderful lunch at this restaurant yesterday (Sunday). It was our first time here and the service was fantastic. We were there to celebrate a birthday and we truly enjoyed it. Everything we ordered was delicious. I will definitely come back again. The waitress was extremely helpful and friendly. She even gave us a box of cookies as a treat for being first time guests at this restaurant.
It is so wonderful having a department store sit down restaurant!! I anticipated the warm and fresh signature popovers served immediately with the delicious strawberry butter. I was not disappointed! The service was excellent and the food quality is very good. NM Cafe is a great place to meet friends and enjoy a leisurely lunch.
Shrimp crab Louis salad is the best!
The restaurant was not crowded, but our server seemed unable to manage all of them. Not sure if they are understaffed or if it was our particular waitperson. Very long wait to get order, water, and food. Other tables were constantly asking for their checks. We've been many times and this has not been an issue.
We enjoy the Café regularly but think, after our last two visits, that they are understaffed. The service people are always very nice but they have too many tables. We waited a long time for items that should have been quite quick. One more waitperson would be perfect. Thank you.
Great service, very attentive. This is the third time I've eaten here but I'm not too crazy about the food for the price. Very overpriced and their version of the Moscow Mule was not good at all, we actually had to send it back. However, it is a fun experience
