NM Cafe at Neiman Marcus Topanga Ratings and Reviews
The food was excellent. Complimentary popover and cup of broth were a very nice touch. Service was erratic, perhaps the server had too many tables to handle at one time. Bussing was non-existent; used plates were left for too too long before clearing. It was lunchtime and the sound level made it hard to have a conversation. Overall, a good place to go to, even if you're not in the mall to shop.
The DineLA Week 2018 menu and dining experience was great. Service was top notch as always. The broth and biscuit starter is always a nice touch as is the AMAZING puffed bread/Yorkshire pudding hybrid they start the meal with. I had the crab cheese dip which was actually quite crab-forward and the wantons were perfectly fried. The steak frites looked a bit dry at first, but was perfectly cooked (medium rare) and had a nice crust on the meat and just enough juice to sop up. The fries were cheesey, truffley and great.
I love this restaurant but this visit, my first in close to a year, was not an enjoyable experience. The server seemed harried and as if she didn’t care if people were being wll taken care of. We sat with used dishes from the broth and popovers courses throughout the meal. They forgot to brown the cheese on my burger, and forgot items on my dining partners plate. We were not offered dessert. The waitress handed us our check to us through the neighboring diners table which was rude and awkward. The chocolate mints that come at the end of the meal are no more. Hopefully this was a one off experience.
Love NM Cafe for lunch. There is an outside area with running water in a fountain that provides great atmosphere. Service was attentive and the restaurant is quiet. Menu offers very healthy choices prepared well. This is one of my go to spots to meet people for lunch.
Elegant lunch dining, excellent and courteous service, delicious automatically served chicken soup with cheese pastry and an inimitable popover -alone making the lunch worthwhile -and good food, unusual and filling appetizers. The tortilla soup is wonderful; the spinach and artichoke dip ditto. Beautiful presentation. Fine coffee. The cookies make a most generous dessert -usually too many to finish in one sitting and the recipe for the NM Chocolate Chip Cookies makes this "the gift that keeps on giving."
The food and service here are always top notch. Highly recommended when your in the area, just be aware that the valet charge at the mall is $15 and NO validation or anything else to lessen that amount...not by the hour or anything, just a flat $15...worth driving around to find a spot probably.
Our server was just delightful and she gave us samples of 2 of the items so we could taste before choosing. We never felt rushed and as my friend and I don't get to see each other that often, we were there for over two hours and were not made to feel uncomfortable about it! (If the place had been busy, we would not have done that though.)
The manager forgot to let the server know it was a birthday lunch.
I have been to the NM Cafe several times before and enjoyed the experience but always sat on the patio. Due to the cold weather, we opted to sit inside. It was incredibly loud and difficult to hear the person sitting across the table. In addition to the voices, there was music playing, but all we heard was the pounding bass. I'll go back when the weather is warmer.
We enjoyed a great Birthday lunch on the patio. It had been a little overcast earlier in the day but by the time we were there we could see blue skies and billowy clouds! The grilled shrimp and risotto was DELICIOUS after the lavender/mint based cocktail. Popovers were a GREAT treat. Only disappointment was that there was no bruelee on the dessert list. However, the berry cobbler was delightful!
One of the only places that serve fresh hot popovers with strawberry butter & a Demi tasse of chicken bouillon with a tiny southern biscuit as an amuse bouche when you sit down. It is gracious tradition. Food is excellent quality ingredients & modern cuisine. New types of cocktails & specials.
I love going there.
Extremely POOR service needing to ask for help and drinks well after arriving. Did they think we were there just to sit and hang out? Not even water. Waitress was less than happy to be there. This doesn't compare to Bellevue or Dallas. We will not go back to what was once our children's favorite in other cities to this sad excuse for anything resembling the NM brand. What's even sadder is that the food is worse than the service at THIS location. Not child friendly.
I had written a review last time saying that this normally excellent place had for the first time disappointing specialties: popovers somehow like ordinary rolls and stale chocolate chip cookies in the cookie box, and the manager very kindly wrote me an apology, and gave me a complimentary meal for myself and a guest. We had our Guest List meal a few days ago, on Saturday, and the popovers were wonderful, as they usually were, and the cookies fresh and delicious, as they used to be. Whatever problem the kitchen had had two times ago was resolved. The meal was excellent. I again thank the generous manager Mikhael Smith and commend the whole restaurant: Neiman Marcus Café in Topanga Canyon.
I really come for the popovers, the chicken broth and accompanying cheese pastry and the cookie box. This time, for some reason, for the first time, the popovers were not good, not puffy enough, and the chocolate chip cookies, NM special, tasted stale!
Since this has only happened once, I am not discouraged and will go again.
It is the above in an upscale atmosphere, foods not served anywhere else in CA, that make the place unique.
