Nirvana is not a heavenly abode that one goes to. Nirvana is a mindset that one exists in. So whether it's the department break for lunch or dinner for two; whether it's a hunger for curry or a thirst for lassi; whether you dine in, or take away, our food assures that you take away the peace of mind that comes with only the perfect blend of spices, at the perfect Nirvana.
Food was excellent though it was bit dark
Service was also great and chef was good enough to come and serve
Furniture was very old and falling apart, there were flies in the restaurant, and the ambiance was weird and unappealing
Our waiter George was fantastic. Very attentive and knowledgeable
Food taste at nirvana was excellent. We had a wide variety of dishes and all were delicious
Read great reviews and decided to stop on our way through Albany. So worth it!!! The spicy dosa was HUGE and came with delicious flavorful accompaniments. I'm a vegetarian and ordered the Vegetable Vindaloo - it was my max level of spice and so good (if you don't love spicy, this is not for you! Lol) My husband got the Fish Curry and loved it. Fish cooked perfectly. The Rosemary Naan was yummy too. Highly recommend this restaurant, wish we lived closer to go again!!
Great wines, great food and great atmosphere. A real gem on in then northern suburbs.
Staff was rude. They give you sparkling water at the beginning but don’t fall for it because they will charge you eight dollars.
Premium Indian cuisine. Good quality if not particularly fancy. Overall, very good food and experience.
Great lunch buffet!
Nice find on our conference trip to DC; food was quite good as was the service. Quiet place too.
Nirvana was an amazing restaurant. I highly recommend it. Great food, great service.
Food was excellent. Very authentic. Wine service was mediocre at best. My test for Indian restaurants is: how good is the bathroom? This one, like most Indian restaurants, failed miserably - designed poorly and maintained poorly
More lighting on the Stairs is needed. It's really dark when going up and down. (Especially going down the narrow stairs.
The food was what I would have expected, but the service was subpar. Our waitress barely paid attention to us and was judgy about our food choices. There was elevator music playing on the whole time. And the manager was pushy
One of midtown's best restaurant values! Great food, great service at a great price. What more could anyone want for a quick lunch in midtown? I consider myself a regular and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys good Indian cuisine!
Always a pleasure to dine at the Nirvana. The service and food is always great!
Food was so oversalted. So disappointing.
The food was at beast, certainly sub-par. Ambiance was generally lifeless, with scant diners in the restaurant.
Not only were the cocktails good but the food was exceptional. Dishes served and spiced accordingly - it was such good food.
Great food and lovely friendly staff who were happy to advise us on the menu.
Good food. Excellent service. You have to walk 1 flight up to restaurant and 1 flight down steep dark stairs to get to the bathroom which was gross!
On hols in NYC, came across this place. Very nice. Good authentic curry.
We visit each time we come to NYC.
This is both approachable and very nice.
The entry through the bar is deceiving. It betrays how nice the restaurant upstairs is.
Great neighborhood gem. The food is VERY good, the service is excellent. The staff knows the menu well and are helpful with dietary requests and needs. Highly recommend.
Been here before but never during the week so was surprised to find they offer a wonderful buffet at lunchtime. As always, excellent service and great food.
Nice dinner with my wife and a friend. We had many different dishes, all good and some, outstanding. We will return.
Nirvana was outstanding! Great soup, appetizers, main dishes. Great service as well.
The mild menu was to spicy. Friendly service, good food.
Great food. Great service. Dominic always gives great service. All the food is delicious. We have always had great dinners here.
Great food and excellent service
We were seated right away which was great - but there were only a handful of people there anyway. We asked for the dishes to be made mild - one was so spicy that we could not even finish it and it was our favorite. Service was slow and the waiter did not come back to check on us - my husband had to call him over for the check.
Yummy food and great service! Chana sang, lamb and samosas are delicious!
After doing a lot of research and being disappointing with several new hot spots, a friend pointed me to Nirvana. I went for lunch and there was a buffet, which i initially dismissed. However, the waiter strongly suggested that we went for the buffet, and so we did. Well.. for a very moderate price (around $15), i had the best meal of my NYC stay and after hundreds of dollars spent in fancy new places. If you want to get true and absolutely delicious Indian food, you must go to Nirvana.
Nirvana has become a "must" for dinner each time I visit NYC. Originally discovered by chance as I was walking in the neighborhood near my hotel, it has proven to have consistently excellent food and service. The menu is extensive and includes meat, seafood, and vegetarian options. I once sampled the lunchtime buffet, which was also very good and quite affordable. I have come here with groups of six or seven, or just with one friend at a time. A friend who is Indian has also pronounced Nirvana's food as very good, so it gets special marks from someone in the know. Even in NYC, known for its superb dining options, Nirvana stands out.
Food was passable, cost fair. Tables up steep steps, so this if steps are a problem for you, be warned. Acoustics difficult so that while we were largely alone in the dining area, we could not hear each other well. Very dimly lit.
I would pass on this restaurant in the future.
Consistently good service and excellent food
This was my second dining experience at Nirvana---and I loved it even more than the last time. I can't stress enough how wonderful the food is. I can not wait to go back.
Favorite for some time. Disappointing this time. Spiciness requested was not correct.
