Nirvana Indian Cuisine
After visiting the curry houses of Europe, especially of London, the late Har G. Keswani was inspired to bring Indian culture and food to New Orleans. Since 1982, the Keswani family has presented the unique cuisine of India to the New Orleans community.
Nirvana’s Banquet Hall is a unique and beautiful space which has much flexibility. It can accommodate up to 150 people, but it is also intimate enough for a gathering of 25. There is no such thing as a set in stone package at the Banquet Hall – no limitation to what your creativity can produce. Food options, bar setups, decoration schemes, and all the other details of your event are entirely customizable.
We would like to invite you to come and see what we have to offer.
Went for a birthday dinner. Great service, great food and a lovey surprise birthday treat at the end. Would definitely recommend and go again!
Everything is always great! Mothers Day Buffet had options for a picky eater as well.
Food was very good although, there were three orders of chicken tikka masala and they should’ve all come with separate rice for each meal. At first only one rice bowl was brought out I guess to ration amongst the three of us? Then when we said something about it, they only brought out one more rice bowl but not the third. The food was very good, but for the portion size compared to other Indian restaurants, the price of the meal it was not worth it.
Service was excellent..food was fresh & the restaurant was super clean!
This was my first time going to an Indian restaurant. I was not disappointed! Went with my husband and daughter and we all loved it. The food was incredible, the service was great, and the prices were very reasonable. Was not very crowded and there was no wait.
It was Valentine’s Day so the food was OK but not as good as normal. However the service was horrible and I got a dirty plate that never got never got changed. The manager or owner was very nice but our waiter was kind curt and we were rushed in and out. I definitely would not go back there for any holiday.
Good dining experience low noise level, good food buffet and attentive service.
Thanks a lot! We appreciate your business and look forward to seeing you again!
Great food. Very slow service. Didn’t seem to get the cadence of servicing a table. 15-20 min until fist contact by a server. No drink orders first, etc. Again, very good food.
I can only guess that this place had a paid review on thrillist as the reality did not live up to their hype.
As I arrived, their first question was whether I am a delivery driver and which order am I collecting.
Everything ran much too slowly including ordering and receiving a beer.
I enjoyed the food based upon a tasty sauce. However the huge curry dish contained precisely 3 small piece of meat.
I left with the firm belief that the staff did not care. I was truly disappointed to waste a precious night in New Orleans at this place.
We had a wonderful experience at Nirvana! They gave us complimentary sparkling wine for New Years, which took it over the top. The food was delicious and service was excellent. Would definitely go back!
We are so glad you enjoyed yourself, and thank you for spending part of your New Year's Eve celebration with us!
We were there on Thanksgiving, probably not the best time. The restaurant was about half-full and most people seemed happy enough, but the service was very slow. The food was neither good nor bad, middling. We ate most of it but did not bother to doggy bag any leftovers. The wine was poor for the price. We love Indian food, but will not go there again.
Organizational nightmare. No one working here knows what to do next. Our food took forever. It was not bad, but not worth the wait. When they gave me my bill, after four requests, it was for another table, then when I got the right one, they still had the drink on it, that I did order, but after about 10 minutes they came back and said they had no one there that could make drinks!! Why have a menu for them then? Complete chaos. Other good Indian, like Saffron, right up the street, avoid this place.
We stopped on Saturday night and ordered 1 butter naan, 2 garlic naan, chicken tikka masala & chicken Curry. The waiter gave us plain naan instead of butter naan, so I asked him the same where is butter naan he just looked at the naans and left away without talking anything. I didn’t understand what that means. Service is very bad mainly the guy who is at the cashier. Other person served on time. I also ordered beer which I have to ask for multiple times. Don’t expect good service from this restaurant. Food was good though.
Thank you for your detailed and honest feedback; it will help us address any issues and improve for the future. It is our goal to provide a better experience for our guests and we hope you'll give us another chance.
Our first visit here and we will definitely be back! The staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome and help us celebrate our anniversary, including cute little table tents and complimentary dessert.
Everything we ate was excellent! My husband had the vindaloo, which was super spicy and right up his alley. Our waiter did warn him, but he was not disappointed as he likes a lot of heat. I had the chicken chatnad, which was also moderately spicy and a very flavorful. The perfect combination.
Friends recommended this place and I'm so glad that they did! We will certainly be back and bring are out of town guests with us.
Buffet was only available and it was a late dinner reservation 8:30. If the kitchen was open I’m sure it would have been good. Had no idea they didn’t serve dinner it was not indicated on open table.
Buffet was okay
Good food, good service.
Good vegetarian choice
The food was good, but the service was not great and there seemed to be a problem with the A/C. In 100 degree heat that definitely makes a dining experience less than optimal.
Excellent service and prices. The food was amazing.
Food was great and service friendly. Drinks were good, too.
They closed early and denied serving us appetizers citing lame reasons that they dont serve appetizers after 9pm. Few customers had to turn back because they claimed its closing time. Not good customer service. Food - biryani is worst and it was not biriyani. Didn't ask spice levels and it came too spicy.
First visit to Nirvana but definitely not the last! Everything was tasty!
Great service, good food, but shocked to find that they were still operating this restaurant, even tough both restrooms were closed. They said they had a blockage. Call a plumber or shut the restaurant.
Probably the best Indian food in New Orleans. You know it's good right when you walk in the door by the amazing aromas and overwhelming hints of delicious curries.
We had a little of everything and it was all good! Chicken 65 nice and spicy!
The buffet dinner after Bacchus was the way to go! Good vegetarian options and obviously fast service. We were given adequate warning that the restaurant would close and to get any last food we wanted. Mango lassi was very good. Overall, I would go back if I were in the area.
Thoroughly enjoyed the food. Very flavorful cuisine.
After we placed our order we did not see our waiter until I called him to get our check at the end of the meal. He did not even swing by to offer to refill my water. Service was horrible. Even when we entered it seemed as if they were not very interested in our business. The food was ok at best .. The one think I liked was the paneer from tandoori..forgot what they called it but it's basically a paneer tikka. The rest was nothing to rave about.
The chicken dishes were delicious, I loved the tandoori chicken and butter chicken. Chicken was soft & fresh. The matar paneer curry and vegetable miljuli were pretty good as well, I didn't like their dal makhni, it lacked flavor. Gulab jamum was outstanding!
I was visiting from out of town (for a conference). I always try Indian cuisine in each city. This place has very good food. There are not many choices in NOLA for Indian. The service was friendly but not very professional. The entrée came out within 3 minutes of the appetizers. And the plates were never cleared between courses. These are little things, but they can make the experience less than enjoyable. The table was a mess. Also - a little thing, but so important - the front entrance door is FILTHY. I did not want to touch it. I don't think it has ever been cleaned. However, the rest of restaurant was acceptable in regards to cleanliness - not immaculate, but not dirty.
Food and service was excellent! I was shocked at how reasoanble the bill was as I expected it to be much higher!
The food was delicious. The staff was very friendly and provided excellent customer service
Fantastic! Can't wait to come again.
Great food and service, first time there. Outstanding food great portions.
Very good buffet for Sunday brunch.
Wonderful food, great ambiance. We all enjoyed our meals !
We walked down Magazine and we were delighted to have made a reservation at this inviting restaurant. We started with creative Indian-esque martinis. The malai kofta and onion kulcha were perfectly made. The sauces were perfectly spiced and the service was just right.
Service was good. Liked the ambience. Samosa and chutney was awesome.
An excellent dining experience. The chicken korma was the best I've ever had, and my guest was equally thrilled with his dinner.
Excellent, delicious, and abundant portions. Service is sometimes lacking, but the host or hostesses pick up the slack for servers who are busy attending to too many tables. Overall, a very good dining experience.
