Nirvana Indian Cuisine
After visiting the curry houses of Europe, especially of London, the late Har G. Keswani was inspired to bring Indian culture and food to New Orleans. Since 1982, the Keswani family has presented the unique cuisine of India to the New Orleans community.
Nirvana’s Banquet Hall is a unique and beautiful space which has much flexibility. It can accommodate up to 150 people, but it is also intimate enough for a gathering of 25. There is no such thing as a set in stone package at the Banquet Hall – no limitation to what your creativity can produce. Food options, bar setups, decoration schemes, and all the other details of your event are entirely customizable.
We would like to invite you to come and see what we have to offer.

We were looking forward to finally trying this place for Christmas. As a NY Christmas tradition we have Indian cuisine every year. I visit New Orleans quite often so I booked in advance. We got there early & waited for them to open for our 5:30 reservation. The places had a really nice ambiance. We ordered drinks & a couple of appetizers which came right away. It started to get very busy as we placed our dinner order. 20 min later people around us that came in after were served. We asked multiple times & were told 5 minutes. Our waiter didn’t even come back to the table so I went to the bar to order another drink. After an hour of waiting & being told they would check, the waiter came over to tell us the order was lost & unapologetically took the order again. He was going to “rush it out right away”. Again people the had just been seated were receiving their food. We are very patient & tried to give them a chance to redeem themselves. Then the brought out two of our dinners but not the third person. We tried to wait as the food got cold & asked another waiter to hear the famous “5 minutes “. Finally we finished & cancelled the last order which was never coming. I will admit the food was good & I would of forgiven the horrible service (over 2 hrs) because it was busy but no one was apologetic & they just seemed annoyed & bothered by us. This was extremely disappointing & it ruined our Christmas tradition!
Delicious and spicy lamb vindaloo, yummy kashmiri naan, butter chicken, shrimp tikka masala, aloo ghobi...etc. all quite good, service was excellent.
The lamb vindaloo was to die for. Honestly the meal of my dreams
Horrible service and they really didnt seem to care. If you don't want the buffet you are out of luck.
Great food and service!
Kind, polite waitstaff, excellent food in a lovely setting.
Food was AMAZING and would be back for the paneer and the staff and service were kind and very helpful. They made a birthday dinner a night to remember. Perfect hidden gem in NOLA and Magazine St.
We were a party of 8 and made reservations before we arrived. The restaurant looked good. We realized after arriving that there was a dinner buffet going on so we decided to try that. The food options were minimal. Although the food looked alright, it did not taste great. The spices were very bland. On top of that, the food was always up for refill and no one was actively looking to refill them. Every time any one of us went to get some food, either naan, veg curry, shrimp curry were missing. This is a buffet and the restaurant has 1 job, to keep their stocks full and they could not even do that. The mango lassi was horrible. They kept cheap ice cream as dessert option. No one wanted to try that. I hope they take this review as a suggestion and improve their services.
The staff is always so nice and helpful and food is amazing
The food was ok, way over priced, the restrooms were filthy
Was surprised to find it was a buffet dinner night. Awesome value and delicious choices.
I really enjoy this place, from the staff to the food. Amazing service and amazing food. My wife loves it
Service was excellent...definitely much better than before. Food was delicious...I like My food spicy and found that they didn’t do that even after requesting it Indian Hot. I am sure they will get it right the next time. The tandoori chicken was spot on along with the Lamb Rogan Josh...not as good as Cambodia or Thailand Indian food but comon, that’s in Asia!
Fun lunch w colleague
Went for a birthday dinner. Great service, great food and a lovey surprise birthday treat at the end. Would definitely recommend and go again!
Everything is always great! Mothers Day Buffet had options for a picky eater as well.
Food was very good although, there were three orders of chicken tikka masala and they should’ve all come with separate rice for each meal. At first only one rice bowl was brought out I guess to ration amongst the three of us? Then when we said something about it, they only brought out one more rice bowl but not the third. The food was very good, but for the portion size compared to other Indian restaurants, the price of the meal it was not worth it.
Service was excellent..food was fresh & the restaurant was super clean!
This was my first time going to an Indian restaurant. I was not disappointed! Went with my husband and daughter and we all loved it. The food was incredible, the service was great, and the prices were very reasonable. Was not very crowded and there was no wait.
It was Valentine’s Day so the food was OK but not as good as normal. However the service was horrible and I got a dirty plate that never got never got changed. The manager or owner was very nice but our waiter was kind curt and we were rushed in and out. I definitely would not go back there for any holiday.
Good dining experience low noise level, good food buffet and attentive service.
Thanks a lot! We appreciate your business and look forward to seeing you again!
Great food. Very slow service. Didn’t seem to get the cadence of servicing a table. 15-20 min until fist contact by a server. No drink orders first, etc. Again, very good food.
I can only guess that this place had a paid review on thrillist as the reality did not live up to their hype.
As I arrived, their first question was whether I am a delivery driver and which order am I collecting.
Everything ran much too slowly including ordering and receiving a beer.
I enjoyed the food based upon a tasty sauce. However the huge curry dish contained precisely 3 small piece of meat.
I left with the firm belief that the staff did not care. I was truly disappointed to waste a precious night in New Orleans at this place.
We had a wonderful experience at Nirvana! They gave us complimentary sparkling wine for New Years, which took it over the top. The food was delicious and service was excellent. Would definitely go back!
We are so glad you enjoyed yourself, and thank you for spending part of your New Year's Eve celebration with us!
We were there on Thanksgiving, probably not the best time. The restaurant was about half-full and most people seemed happy enough, but the service was very slow. The food was neither good nor bad, middling. We ate most of it but did not bother to doggy bag any leftovers. The wine was poor for the price. We love Indian food, but will not go there again.
Organizational nightmare. No one working here knows what to do next. Our food took forever. It was not bad, but not worth the wait. When they gave me my bill, after four requests, it was for another table, then when I got the right one, they still had the drink on it, that I did order, but after about 10 minutes they came back and said they had no one there that could make drinks!! Why have a menu for them then? Complete chaos. Other good Indian, like Saffron, right up the street, avoid this place.
We stopped on Saturday night and ordered 1 butter naan, 2 garlic naan, chicken tikka masala & chicken Curry. The waiter gave us plain naan instead of butter naan, so I asked him the same where is butter naan he just looked at the naans and left away without talking anything. I didn’t understand what that means. Service is very bad mainly the guy who is at the cashier. Other person served on time. I also ordered beer which I have to ask for multiple times. Don’t expect good service from this restaurant. Food was good though.
Thank you for your detailed and honest feedback; it will help us address any issues and improve for the future. It is our goal to provide a better experience for our guests and we hope you'll give us another chance.
Our first visit here and we will definitely be back! The staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome and help us celebrate our anniversary, including cute little table tents and complimentary dessert.
Everything we ate was excellent! My husband had the vindaloo, which was super spicy and right up his alley. Our waiter did warn him, but he was not disappointed as he likes a lot of heat. I had the chicken chatnad, which was also moderately spicy and a very flavorful. The perfect combination.
Friends recommended this place and I'm so glad that they did! We will certainly be back and bring are out of town guests with us.
Buffet was only available and it was a late dinner reservation 8:30. If the kitchen was open I’m sure it would have been good. Had no idea they didn’t serve dinner it was not indicated on open table.
Buffet was okay
Good food, good service.
Good vegetarian choice
The food was good, but the service was not great and there seemed to be a problem with the A/C. In 100 degree heat that definitely makes a dining experience less than optimal.
Excellent service and prices. The food was amazing.
Food was great and service friendly. Drinks were good, too.
They closed early and denied serving us appetizers citing lame reasons that they dont serve appetizers after 9pm. Few customers had to turn back because they claimed its closing time. Not good customer service. Food - biryani is worst and it was not biriyani. Didn't ask spice levels and it came too spicy.
