NINJA NEW YORK Ratings and Reviews
We've been there many times and this was not one of our better experiences. They made us wait after coming upstairs which ruins the surprise element. The waiter was terrible and did not make it fun for the boys. We were there (for the 2nd time this month!) celebrating my sons birthday. He was so excited to bring his friends there and it was a let down. I don't think I'll return
My husband and I brought our 9-year-old godson here with his parents, and it was definitely a night to remember.
You take an elevator down to the restaurant, and then depending on where they sit you, you walk through a winding cavern (past some cool private “dojo” booths), and over a little “bridge” to a cool seating area built into this “rocky” facade that had “foliage” growing out of it.
Our waiter was Angel and man, he was really into his ninja character, which thrilled my godson. They were “sparring” and sneaking up on each other the whole night. Each of the ninja waiters have distinct personalities, and they all do an excellent job balancing waiting on your table, entertaining your kid, and entertaining the adults too. We witnessed a couple of first dates at the tables around us, and we would totally take our other adult friends here. Our godson was so enamored by Angel that he was stopping him to tell him ninja jokes like they were old friends.
All the menu items with a ninja star symbol mean that the ninja waiters perform little tricks for you - so our rolls came out with “poison” mist, and they set our steaks on fire. It’s pricey if you’re used to standard Japanese takeout, but totally worth it. We got 2 rolls, my godson got the hamburger (but for the more adventurous kid, I would recommend the “castle”), and our godson’s parents got a pretty extravagant prix fixe that includes edamame, lobster bisque, calamari, the mango salmon roll, and a rib eye. They also ordered a sake tasting flight that they said was delicious, and they’re not big drinkers. Everything tasted awesome - and yes, we taste tested everything family style - but the theatrics made it that much better.
I really don’t know how I can top this birthday next year, but I do know that my husband and I will be back soon.
Loved our dinner experience! Our server Ninja Angel was a perfect Ninja and had a great personality! Service was great and I couldn't believe how many of the food items had different presentations! Very entertaining! The food was fresh and the sushi items were very tasty! Entertaining for kids and also adults. I'd go back in a heartbeat next time I'm in town!
We decided to visit Ninja Restaurant as a fun night out for our 7 year old daughter. She was totally surprised.
We did have a reservation, but still ended up waiting about 30 minutes to be sat, as the hostess stated, "They were backed up." It was a Sunday night, so we were understanding about the wait. A waiter did, however, come over and offer to provide us with drinks as we waited. We were very appreciative and it helped the wait time fly by.
We were sat at the last table in the back of the restaurant, which wasn't ideal since, for our first visit, we really wanted to be in the middle of the action. It also seemed as if the table was meant for 2 but they added a chair in the aisle to accommodate our party of 3. It was pretty uncomfortable.
Our server did pull out her sword a couple of times to entertain my daughter, but she was less than impressed.
As for the food, it was delicious! We ordered the burger kids mea, $28, for our daughter. Her meal included a cheeseburger, mac and cheese, chicken tempura and fries. My boyfriend and I were able to share the $69 set, and still had plenty of food to take home. This included calamari, a lobster bisque miso soup, a salmon sushi roll and a choice of steak.
At the end of dinner, a ninja came over and offered to do some magic tricks. We were totally down for it (be prepared to tip him). He was great! That really made up for being in the back of the restaurant.
Overall, I would definitely go back, but with the request that we be in one of the rooms closer to the front or middle of the restaurant.
We were seated in a corner at a figure 8 table with another family we didn’t know. It felt like the other family was facing us and we were facing them due to the table design, which was uncomfortable. Our table was next to the kitchen so my kids heard the waiter and chef cursing. We were also seated next to a large and very loud group of teenage girls that were there for a birthday. Our food came out quicker then it does at Burger King. I’ve never felt so rushed. It was a horrible and expensive experience.
This was very pricey for the quality of food, a downside I expected to be mitigated by the experience. But, the servers paid little attention to our table and the "ninja presentations" were underwhelming. We spent $180 on terrible food and mediocre theatrics that were barely even present. Wouldn't go back.
The food was okay, I wouldn’t have said it was amazing and wouldn’t be back for the food. I was a little disappointed in the service since other ninjas around us seemed really into it and had other tables getting very into it while ours was not so much. he acted like a regular waiter where as i was hoping him to be more of a ninja. i wouldn’t say i had a bad time but wouldn’t be back again
It’s a fun experience coming here but I wouldn’t go back often because I think it’s a little over priced for the quality of food. It’s a very touristy kind of place with a unique dining concept that was enjoyable and that’s what you’re really paying for. Glad I tried it though! ...my one big negative here is that the lights in the dinning area are way too bright.
You had me at ninja! Right from the beginning I was amazed in the look and feel of the restaurant aka underground Japanese village. Surprises, laughs, and entertainment was throurouly provided and the food was top notch. This is a MUST visit when in New York!
Had an amazing time and our servers were so helpful! They went above and beyond and recommended a few places for us to enjoy NYE on our vacation. The people really made the experience wonderful and they should be commended for their outstanding service and friendliness! Would definitely come back again!
This place is great if you're looking for a silly theme restaurant to take the kids or have a fun night out with friends. Our waiter was super nice and attentive (I wish I got his name!) and also spoke with us in a very tongue in cheek manner as if we were in on the joke as well - which we appreciated. The food was fine - tasty, but nothing special. Also, it was a little frustrating that their signature (read: expensive) menu option, the great castle, had fillers such as french fries and mac and cheese. To their credit, however, they were listed in the description of the dish. Overall, this was a fun night but much more kitschy than expected and certainly not for those looking for an authentic Japanese food experience.
I wanted to try something different, and fun with my kids with a theme. We ended up at Ninja, and they were not disappointed. The setting is totally ninja-including the elevator ride and walk through the ninja path to the dining area. The food was what I expected (nothing more, nothing less) we were there for the different experience. Meal presentation was good, and included fire, fog and neon lights. I do think it was slightly overpriced, but what isn’t. The servers played the ninja role well and were very attentive. Mike our table side magician was great with the kids, and put on a good five + minute interactive show with the boys. Bring some extra cash to tip him. I would go back if my boys wanted to bring a friend or dine there again.
This was one of the most creative, fun restaurants we've ever been to and we travel the world, seeking these types of places. My 7 year old had as much fun here as he did at Disney World. He's still "playing ninja" with all the souvenirs he got. His joy brought joy to me, my husband and our 13 year old daughter. We had a GREAT time!
The staff is wonderful in giving you a great experience. High energy, fixed any issues immediately (nothing major) the magic tricks are a bonus. Food is prepared and served so creatively, and the atmosphere and dining ambiance is spot on. The kids asked about coming back before we even left the place. Definitely going to return soon.
