Ninebark is located in Napa, where it serves fine American fare in a three-story restaurant that offers beautiful views overlooking the valley. It's good news and maybe not so good. The food is really good. Not stunningly fantastic just very good. Service was spot on and they gave us complimentary champagne just because it was my husbands birthday, all very nice. One small complaint I have is that when I made the reservation I asked to be seated on the roof. That was a week before we went there but the day before our reservation they called to confirm the reservation. I inquired about the roof and they said they had a private party up there so they couldn't seat us there that night. That's fine except for the waiting to the last minute to give me that information. At any rate the main room is lovely with high ceilings. Our booth corner table was such that one person is seated directly facing the people at the small table next to us, that's a bit awkward really. Also the noise level is pretty high. All and all I'd say it's good not great.
Went for the chef's Sunday Supper where his imagination ran wild. Delicious food, great staff and a very fun location.
The Sunday night dinner was spectacular. We have enjoyed many dinners at 9bark and decided to try the special dinner with out of town friends. Each course in the seven dish prix fix meal is a surprise, with recipes created by different staff, and there were no misses. Service was fun, and James quickly understood our sense of humor and tastes, including a perfect suggestion for wine. We sat on the roof, a perfect spot for visitors to view the Napa hills, and it felt like being in Italy.
Great concept - poorly executed!
We were looking for a nice quiet dining experience and were so excited about tasting their food as we had read a really great review. But when we got there on a Thursday night, they said the dining room was closed during the week and they seated us in the top bar. A nice place to have drinks and appetizers with a group of friends, but not at all appropriate for a quiet, romantic dinner. So we left and went to Angele where we had a wonderful meal and experience.
Much more of a bar with high priced food than a restaurant with a bar. I was surprised and disappointed by the frat boy, pick up scene vibe. The tartare was the best dish we had, everything else was just okay and not worth the price. Our main courses were cold but by that point, we didn't have the patience to send them back.
The outdoor rooftop seating is beautiful, but the frat bar scene surrounding us took away from the romantic vibe. I might come back for drinks but would definitely eat somewhere else.
Everything about the experience was excellent except for the reservation process. There is no ability to speak to someone at the restaurant on the phone- all done through leaving voicemail messages. I don't believe this is the best way a restaurant that values service should conduct their reservation system- making reservations, confirming reservations, or contacting the restaurant if you are running late. Otherwise- an excellent dining experience.
Gorgeous terrace, unique menu
Food was good but our service was lacking to the point we got a wrong entree. Waiter seemed very distracted so thus the dining experience was lacking. Do not know why u are serving a martini in a champagne glass. Would have to think about recommending your place to anyone. By the way when I called your front desk said there were no tables available for 8-830 pm yet open table gave us a reservation for 830pm. Something is wrong with that?
Had a great time! We ordered many of the small plates and did things family style. The food was fantastic the view was amazing, and the service was exceptional! I highly recommend Ninebark!
Have been a Ninebark fan since they opened. Went to my first Sunday Supper and was blown away. Eight course dinner with enough food for another meal. The food was creative, well prepared and absolutely delicious. Even better than their regular menu (which sets a high standard). Sitting on their rooftop on a gorgeous Napa evening. What could be better?

The salt cod beignets are excellent. I would return for a cocktail and the beignets, either down in the bar or outside on the third floor deck. The second floor dining room is... meh. Dinner was very good, some very unique dishes, but it somehow lacked that certain something that would give it a space among our list of local favorites for a full meal. In summary: worth one visit for dinner and repeat visits for cocktails and snacks.
Saw a recommendation in Robb report so cancelled a reserve at the Farm where we had dined earlier in the week to give this spot a try - what a MISTAKE! Didn't like anything about it. Host gave
We went early in the evening at first seating. The more crowded it got, the less the waiter was able to attend to our needs. They really need people to bus the tables so waitstaff is not overwhelmed clearing tables and serving. We had empty plates on our table for a long time between courses. At the end, he couldn't even acknowledge us when dropping off the check. Nice wine list and really pretty presentation of food. The food itself was delicious and thoughtful.
We were not able to see the 3rd floor as even for 6:00 seating the rooftop was fully committed.
I would go back and try other food items and would certainly go back to have a drink after 9 (when it opens up) on the rooftop.
Great setting in the heart of downtown Napa in an old three story building. First floor is the bar, second floor is the dining room and the third floor is a combination of both with a deck overlooking the river. Food service is available on all floors. It has a very natural feeling with arrangements garnered from the garden, vegetables and wild flowers both added to the ambiance. The menu is eclectic and interesting although there were some misses and some dishes that didn't live up to the description.
Cocktails were great and the service was friendly and professional.
Very expensive for small portions. Booked a table in the restaurant and were seated in the upstairs bar because the restaurant was closed that night due to insufficient reservations. We were, however, charged "white cloth " prices. Would not go again.
We had the Sunday night fixed menu (chicken main course). It was a 2.5 hour dining experience, a bit lengthy. There were 6 courses, actually 5 as the 1st was a single black cherry? The main course was roasted chicken, on a bed of Brussel sprouts and fried bread. The bread was very hard and inedible, and the Brussel sprouts were under cooked, also mostly inedible. The chicken was great. Desert was excellent - a rice pudding. Food was OK, cocktails and wine excellent, ambiance was fun. I'd try it again, but not on a Sunday night.

This new restaurant in downtown Napa is excellent. It has three levels of experience -- a first floor tasting menu and bar, a second floor dining room, and a rooftop bar and lounge -- that make it a total night out. The food and the cocktails were great. We were unusually well-attended to by various members of the staff -- whether for water, drinks, or the food itself. In particularly, David was so awesome that he arranged for us a table for two on the rooftop to enjoy our dessert and final drinks. This is our new favorite place in Napa and we will definitely be back soon.

Get a table on the third floor outdoor seating area if you can! The wait staff was very attentive. We were seated promptly at our reservation time. One member of our group was brought the wrong entrée, they quickly corrected their mistake and comped him for the meal. We were a group of six, we asked for three separate checks. This seemed to greatly confuse the server. Other than that it was a great experience .
Great food, ambiance and service, but pretty pricey. Certainly worth it for a special occasion.
Should probably be more advertised as wine and cocktail bar than a full restaurant. The food choices were limited and portions small and unsatisfying. No complaints about the alcohol options though. The rooftop dining was nice but not really worth the price considering the competition. If I lived in the area, I'd probably still visit to explore the extensive (and overwhelming) wine list. There was a wine steward to help with selections, so I think they've recognized that issue.
The food was phenomenal. Salt cod bignets magical! Many surprising and delightful taste combinations in every dish we tried. This chef does live up to the hype!
The service, on the other hand, was just OK, not up to the level of a fine restaurant. Our waiter poured new wine into a glass that had contained another wine. There was a very long gap between appetizers and the main course, with no acknowledgement of the delay. Nothing terrible, just not top notch.
All in all we enjoyed it, and we do plan to come back.
Beautiful restaurant in the Napa Valley, but food was overwhelming. The downstairs bar is perfect and if we came back, we'd likely try staying downstairs. Cocktails were great and a real strength. The upstairs dining room is beautifully put together...too bad the service didn't match. We were handed our menus and promptly ignored for a long ten minutes before our waiter reappeared and decided to take our order and bring some water. It was a bad sign when the sommelier wandered over minutes after we'd chosen our wine (fortunately we hadn't needed his assistance). Food was oddly spaced with long waits between appetizers. This may have been an issue with our waiter alone as I noticed other servers in the room seemed much more attentive to their tables.
The food was exquisitely plated (as beautiful as the restaurant) but surprisingly over-sauced despite the perfect ingredients. In general, sugar overpowered other flavors during this meal. The foie gras with truffles was one of the few standouts. The focaccia of the day was slathered in too much jam, too little ricotta. A liberal reinterpretation of a Greek salad was gorgeous on the plate but missing needed acidity or bite. Duck entree was again drizzled in honey to the point that I could barely taste the meat or side dishes. Pork belly was adequately cooked but oversauced and heavy. The restaurant is clearly sourcing superior ingredients; wish the kitchen would let them shine in this spectacular setting. Having been stuffed with oversweetened food, we opted to skip dessert and went back to our hotel to have some cheese and almonds we'd picked up earlier in the day.
The chef's previous NYC restaurant was stunning and perhaps we just came on a bad night. Certainly reviews have been much more glowing than the experience we had.
Everything we tried was super. The duck was absolutely delicious. The S'mores were a delight.
Was disappointed in the overall experience since it was named by Eater to be one of the top ten in the Bay Area. Just average. Food was adequate. Cocktails were alright. Service was adequate. Second floor dining room was not open, which looks beautiful in pictures. Third floor dining room was a bit over designed and haphazard. Many better places to eat with cooler design and more delicious and imaginative food. Also had no vegetable dishes besides salads.
