Food is good but somewhat overpriced. Menu set up by land, meat and fish so hard to tell how big the portion is except by price but that is not always a reliable indicator.
Outstanding service and the food prep was excellent. Highly recommend the Tomahawk Brined Berkshire Pork Chop. Most restaurants have terrible cutlery. The type that “saws” through the selected meats. Nine on Nine has the French “Bee” style serrated knives that sliced cleanly through the chop. NO tearing whatsoever. Finally a culinary team that understands the importance of the cutlery!
Welcomed and promptly seated. Were offered water but help wanted to serve 3 small bottles sparkling water rather than offer large bottle for table. Server was slow taking drink orders and more absent than present during meal. Had to ask someone else for bottle of wine". Food was hit or miss. Menu is not organized as appetizers, entrees, sides but as "garden, land, and sea." Within each you have to figure out what's an appetizer or entree. Some menu items are misleading. Duck Confit Ravioli is a single, massive raviolo. Not very appealing and certainly not ravioli. Lamb Lollipops were not Frenched so not lollipops. Also, gristly and fatty. Seared Octopus Martini was delicious but too oily in the martini. Filet Mignon Tournedos were very good. Plating is bizarre with plates that are too large for the portions, which are lost.
This was my first time dining and I was very pleased! The food was excellent and our servers were very knowledgeable.
The food and service were fantastic! Shorty was great - good recommendations. I loved the ambiance! Will definitely go back!!!
The fish tacos were excellent. They were generous with the fish and reasonably priced. The waitstaff was very accommodating and provided excellent service. The location is very convenient if you have plans to see a show at the Benedum.
Great drinks... everything was amazing from the bread on!!! We shared the Fois Gras, Bone Marrow, Scallops and Duck Ravioli... everything was cooked wonderfully and the flavor combinations were perfect!!! An excellent restaurant and a must try when in Pitt...
Had a great first time experience with Nine on Nine as a pre-concert destination. Booked on line via Open Table for a 6:30 pm table, then worried that it would be too close to the concert. When I called and spoke with the woman who confirmed my reservation, she felt that it would be possible to get in by 6 or 6:15 pm if we arrived early. Everything worked perfectly. The service was great and food excellent. We were also able to hold a conversation without shouting so really appreciated the ambiance and noise level. Would definitely recommend and will be returning!
Celebrating daughters new job at upmc and relocation to Pittsburgh.
I had never been to 9 on 9. It was recommended by a friend. I texted the friend while I was there to thank him. I loved it at 9 on 9. The food was exceptional . Our waiter, Ziggy, was a delight. It was perfect for our pre-theater dinner. I will be returning and would highly recommend that restaurant to everyone.
My girlfriend and I ordered a variety of plates before seeing a show. we were short on time and the restaurant and waiter (Ziggy) accommodated us. I highly recommend the foie gras.
we will certainly be back when we have more time.
Great meal at a great restaurant. I highly recommend starting off with cocktails and a cheeseboard. You cannot go wrong with any entrée. You should have the crème brûlée for dessert!
WOW! This is a wonderful gem! We made an error, and arrived early for our reservation. The hostess could not have been more lovely! She reassured us that it was ok, that she would find us a table as soon as possible. We went over to the bar, and the bar tenders were wonderfully friendly, AND, made excellent cocktails. My gin cucumber cocktail even had mint ice!
We were seated relatively quickly, and in a lovely table in the back that was private and quiet. Our server was informative and friendly.
The menu is truly a treat for foodies, but less adventerous diners can enjoy selections as well. The ceviche with talapia was fresh and seasoned well. The octopus appetizer was the best we have had ever, it was falvourful and sooo tender.
The menu is starred, to let you know the size of what you order. One star small, 2 stars entree like, 3 stars shareable. The duck confit ravioli was tender, beautiful and so flavorful, it was amazing and shared by both of us. The lobster mac and cheese was wonderful, not glutenous and with actual generous pieces of lobster!
The entire meal was a wonderful treat for our palates, and a wonderful ecperience.
First time we ever tried the restaurant. The food was amazing. The service was above and beyond! We will definitely be going back soon
This was my second visit, the first being five years ago when I was very impressed. This time not so much. We were seated 40 minutes before a waitress stopped by, apologizing for the tardy service, explaining that she was "busy." Busy at what remains the question. All the tables were taken in the small dining room were taken, but no one was waiting and the bar crowd was sparse.
The waitress comped both our drinks, which was nice, but hardly compensated for the wait. The appetizers were superb. We had a risotto dish and a cold fruit soup. The main courses were okay, my pork "tomahawk" was over-cooked, but my date said her duck ravioli was adequate.
We split a desert which was excellent.
I see the main problem here as having too many servers and waitstaff for one table. We had separate servers for the appetizer, main course and the dessert. Each didn't seem to know what the previous person had brought us.
The room is small and intimate with good people-watching of the passing parade up Penn Avenue. The prices are moderate, but they need to get their act together.
Food very yummy and my boyfriend picked a beautiful bottle of red. Cocktails were delicious and loved our dinner. Tiramisu was alright, I've had better. Overall a very good experience.
Food was awesome, and the portions were pretty reasonable. The service could have been better, but I think they were shorthanded, so it was understandable. They were working very hard and the meal was very satisfying.
Excellent food, very accommodating, wonderful service
My meal at Nine on Nine was excellent. I had a beautiful creative gazpacho, a a charred pork chop with smoked succoatash and bernaise sauce, and a hazelnut mousse. All were first-rate. I also had a glass of Portuguese Vino Verde. My wife was not quite as pleased with her duck confit ravioli, but overall she enjoyed her meal.
Have been here many times. Last few things have gone downhill. Restaurant was not that busy (half of the tables were occupied) and our server rarely came to check on things or replenish beverages. Had the filet mignon. Came cold.
Great food!! Highly recommend
The evening was perfect.
Great atmosphere. Great food choices and each dish delicious.
Waitress was wonderful.
One tip to restaurant management:
Experience would be top notch IF you trained your staff to clear plates prior to next course being served.
Subtle but important detail if you want to be viewed as fine dining
Service was superb as the waitress was engaging and knowledgeable. Food was tasty and the menu was creative and innovative. The presentation of the food was very nicely done and most attractive. A good place for different occasions. Get reservations, as this is a popular spot for theater goers.
Nine on Nine is always "sure bet" for pre-show dinner. Service is quick and efficient; waiters even ask you if you are headed to show to ensure ample time to enjoy meal. Cocktails are strong and generously portioned, the menu is contemporary, and food - is consistently delicious.
Dinner date before seeing a show at the Benedum. Food and service was outstanding!
We try a different restaurant every time we are down town. This is one of our favorites now. We started with the pomme fritts with 3 different sauces (really good). I had the scallops & my grand daughter had the salmon -- both were done perfect. The presentation was beautiful. For dessert, my granddaughter had a white chocolate mousse with a pear inside. I had a chocolate mousse cake with ganache. Both had a gold leaf on it & eadible flowers. There is nothing better than having a great dinner with beautiful presentation. Will definitely try again.
Pre ballet dinner. Everything perfect. Thx
Returned once again for pre-theater meal. started with Pomme Frites and Marinated Olives. Dishes worked well together and were tasty. Mains were scallops with pork belly and yam soufflé and quail with honey sauce. Had fried sprouts as side to share. Dessert? Decadent to an extreme and so darn good. Excellent wine by glass options made it possible to enjoy everything without overdoing it. We asked for and got the high-backed chair table, which cut down on the noise level as the restaurant got full around 6:30pm. Highly recommended for quality of food, interesting preparations, and attentive service. Bill for two with tip: $200, about $75 of which was alcohol.
We very much enjoyed the food, service and ambiance of this restaurant. That said, the time spent driving in heavy traffic looking for a place to park was a bit of a hassle. The food was also pricey for the amount that was served. The presentation was creative and the food was delicious, but it is more like small plates or tapas for the price of a full dinner elsewhere. We paid about $120 for two of us with tip. This included a shared dessert, and 4 shared plates (including a salad plate), a mixed drink and a glass of wine. I recommend the "lamb lollipops" or lamb chops (comes with 3) as they were more filling and very delicious. Not too bad of a price if a little high for the amount of food included. I would go again, but probably only for a special occasion.
It had been some time since we had dined here, and when I saw the menu had changed we thought we would chance it. We were very glad we did. We both started with the octopus martini and Wow was it delicious! The grilled octopus was tender and juicy and it was served atop vegetables slightly marinated in lemon aioli. Very good and the two went together like mom and pop! Next time, I will have this order times two as the entre. For my entre I had the seared scallops served with a yam muffin and a piece pork belly and a touch of caviar. There was a tasty jam that came with it as well. It was fantastic and very satisfying. I would have again. My wife had a piece of fillet minion that had been pounded out flat and quickly cooked with very tasty sauce. Yum Yum! The service was excellent and the cocktails were inventive and so pleasing.
Salads were great! My husband had the duck and he really liked it. Service was good.
Always good for a quiet meal with exceptional food and service. Creative entrees and sides to share, plus really fine house wine for just a glass.
Nine on Nine is one of my all-time Pittsburgh favorites. I am never disappointed when I dine here. The food is very good, the presentation is creative, and the service is flawless. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Really excellent food and service
They got us out with perfect timing for our opera tickets
I look forward to going there again
Our waiter Edward made our dining experience most enjoyable. The food was beautifully presented and very delicious. We even returned that same evening for dessert and received the same great hospitality. Thank you Edward! We certainly will return again!
My family and I came here on a Saturday and it was great! Delicious food, leisurely pace to the meal without feeling rushed, yet attentive and friendly service by Ziggy and his team! We loved the salads- beet and Caesar. The oysters were delicious too. All of the meals we got were excellent- duck ravioli, fillet toros, salmon pizza, lamb lollipops and the lobster Mac and cheese! I recommend this place and will visit again when I return to Pittsburgh! The ambiance was nice and noise level was perfect.
Service was attentive, cheerful, friendly while being appropriately brisk. Went for light fare and a drink, ended up overindulging ever so slightly but without regret! The atmosphere is such a nice blend: people were wearing everything from evening dresses to shorts and somehow it came together to make for comfortable but special surroundings. The Brussels sprouts with lemon aioli were our favorite, surprisingly! So tasty and addictive.
Thanks for the food and the great service.
Nine on Nine was a pleasant surprise. The food was exceptional and our server, William, was very attentive to our needs and helpful. The serving sizes were perfect allowing us to finish everything and still have room for their amazing desserts.
