There were almost too many people trying to make sure we had everything we needed. All of the food was excellent and great for sharing.
We have dined at 9 on 9 before with positive experiences but his time it was not good at all.
First, some items in the menu were not available even at an early dinner at 5:30 pm.
Second, the servers lack experience and make too many mistakes.
And finally, one item came from the kitchen with a fly in it...yes, an ugly fly in my veggies...
They apologized and offered us a free dessert for our next visit, but with so many options in the area, we are not going back for a very long time...
We were excited to return to Nine on Nine, our Pittsburgh stalwart, before going to a performance of the Opera. Being restrained, I must say that we were disappointed. The service was disorganized, with a drink order being exceedingly slow, and when received, was not what was ordered. In ordering appetizers, the roasted bone marrow was not available--a disappointment. So we ordered two orders of oysters. Though the oysters were delicious, but when the kitchen opened and separated the oyster from the shell, many bits of shell were mixed with the oyster, making chewing it perilous and uncomfortable. I had never experienced this before.
The scallops were good--nicely prepared and presented. The certified Angus beef dish was overly pounded and overcooked--it looked like a big White Tavern hamburger without the bun or pickle.
Dessert--the crème brulee--was excellent.
It took a long time to get our check--our server seemed to have disappeared or gone on break. Even after giving the long-lost server my card, it took about 5 minutes for the check and card to return.
The restaurant is so close to the theatre district that its convenience is a plus. On the other hand, one experience like this is too many.
We have frequented this restaurant but this time Disappointed in entree serving size. 3 medium-sized scallops and no accompaniment. Even with a starter course not adequate dinner.
Gnocchi entree also meager. Too expensive for no meat or seafopd
This was our third time eating at Nine On Nine and we continue to be impressed with the staff, the food and the service levels.
We both had the Halibut and shared a side of the Brussels sprouts. Both were great. From a previous trip we can also recommend the tomahawk pork chop as well as the desserts!
Food was delicious though I would be sure to order a side dish because the portions are small. We weren't served our drinks until after the bread and salad courses, apparently because they were out of the wine I ordered. Still...
ENJOY EVERY TIME HOUSE FAVORITE
EVERY TIME OUR CHILDREN VISIT US FROM OUT OF TOWN WE GO HERE ..
Everyone was so incredibly friendly and the food was amazing! Little pricey but it’s a whole experience you get to enjoy.
Another very tasty meal at 9on9. However, service needs a lot of work. We were not greeted on arrival until a server got the host from the bar area. Ordered drinks; one arrived (a prepared cocktail) but the straight our prosecco didn't come for 10-min; and then was room temp. The person serving the table brought food we'd not ordered, cleared random plates from table. Food served but without plates. Then, plates not cleared for following course. Asked if we wanted risotto served at same time as pork chop, we asked for risotto first. Waiter was clearly aggravated. The serving staff were all nice but are not trained or supervised. The food itself was all delicious and well-prepared but the spotty and incompetent service detracted from an otherwise excellent experience.
Very good food. Incredibly slow service. 10 minutes to get waited on, Twenty minutes to get drinks, 20 minutes to get check after request.
Great good, friendly service and will definately return!
Service was slow and the restaurant was empty.
They were out of several items on the menu along with wine choices. Our reservation was at 7:30 so not sure why they were out of so many things.
The food was edible, but not what you would expect for the price they charged. One of our entree was fish served on top of caned tomatoes with caned peas:((
Poor service .waited forever for drinks
Too many good things to choose from!!!
Delicious bone marrow. Sauce for mussels needed extra bread to sop it up. Very tasty.
Service very poor. Food ok at best. This used to be our favorite downtown. No more.
Wait staff was great. Food and wine were okay. Not as great as expected.
One of my favorite restaurants. Great for dinner, small plates and before or after theatre. Great food, great service and lovely people.
Great menu, excellent service. One of the better restaurants in Pittsburgh
Nice restaurant and good value for the quality of food. Service was great too. Try the roasted brussel sprouts ;o)
A beautiful spot with amazing food. Unique menu and you cant go wrong with anything on the menu! The service was wonderful. Love love this spot!
We had a fabulous dinner for our anniversary! We love to share when eating out and Nine on Nine makes sharing large and small plates very easy, and caters their menu to sharing. We'll definitely be back and recommend to friends!
The menu is approachable but unique and reasonably priced. This is a place where you can take foodies or people who like traditional preparations and both can find something they like. We got a rich lobster Mac and cheese and savory spare rib with crisp fried Brussels. We were very pleased with our choices and ended with a decadent but not overly saccharine opera cake. Service was slow at the start of our meal but improved over time. The restaurant’s situation at the corner of a busy downtown street makes for great people watching. We will be back for delicious food in a cool space!
Really nice dinner for a theater night with the family. Service takes time but worth it. Very good food, service and dessert.
Everything we ordered was excellent. Our waiter gave us some great suggestions and while we went in with high expectations, we were really impressed. The wine selection was also good. We will be back.
I ordered the halibut - which was over $25 … I think the piece of fish was 2 oz. It certainly didn't appear to be a 4 oz serving. Tasty, but poor value.
Great and delicious
Great as always...
This was the first restaurant we visited on a "date night" - dinner and a theater production. Several years and visits later we have moved away from Pittsburgh but had one last show to attend. So we ended where we began. Thank you.
The Lamb Lollipops were as good a lamb dish as I have had - cooked to perfection with a little spice and sweet glaze. Delicious!
Great meal, first time! Deleted vinous efficient service, plenty of time for the show!!
Our server, Katie was very helpful in telling us about the menu. There was a 45 minute wait between our salad course and our entree.
Nice restaurant with very good service. Now I have a place I can go before concerts and have a meal that will make me hapoy.
Visited during restaurant week. The meal was lovely (although we were disappointed the original desert was not available). The portion sizes are not huge here but the quality and preparation are a better (and healthier) tradeoff
Amazing service, very kind staff that goes above and beyond. Great meal - smaller portions as is typical at a higher end restaurant, but still full at the end of the meal. Nice change of pace - unique American style food.
Everything was outstanding, will highly recommend to others!
Staff was available at all times. Enjoying the Restaurant Week special. Entree portions on the small side but acceptable. Flavor and presentation very good.
We are in Pittsburgh for a convention and were lucky enough to find NineonNine at the beginning of the week. Since then, we have taken friends there. Outstanding wait staff. Kind. Helpful. Knowledgeable. The food was fresh and top quality. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. It was quiet enough to be able to easily converse. Highly recommend.
Portions were small for the price. Menu was very confusing. Went for Restaurant Week and did the price fixe option, but in order to to do this, the entire table had to opt in. Food was good. Service and ambiance we're good. Not sure we'd go back.
Great small plates.. ..........................
Kate was awesome so knowledgeable and so caring about each of her tables. Everything she recommended including the wine was spot on. Thank you for a great season end dinner with a dear friend. Keep up the great work
