We dined at Nine Drayton on New Years Eve and had one of the best dinners we've had in a very long time. The moment we entered the restaurant we were amazed by the breathtaking ambiance, including the buildings unique historic character, white linens and candles on the tables, classy Live Piano music and a warm and friendly hostess who seated us. The restaurant was packed with happy guests who seemed to enjoy the food and drinks. Even though it was a set menu on this special New Years Eve night, the food was still fabulous! Our server was top notch and treated us like royalty. Everything from start to finish seemed to flow perfectly as if they new what we wanted before we arrived. We can't wait to return to Nine Drayton and experience another night and encourage everyone that hasn't been to put this restaurant on your ''Places To Go'' list! 5 stars!!!
Went there for New Years Eve while in town- decor and ambiance is great but the best part of the meal was walking in to the restaurant- down hill from there- They had a pre-fixed menu with limited appetizer options, both were deep fried and tasted as if they were made at the beginning of the night and put under a hot lamp by the time our 9pm seating sat down. Salad and soup was mediocre and acceptable, but the entrees (lamb chop and ahi tuna) were not good either- Minimal flavor on the lamp chops and they were overcooked and cold- the ahi tuna was a very modest slim piece that didn't have a tendor wasabi flavor that you have become accustom to at most upper scale restaurants that offer the dish. By the time dessert came we already lost our appetite and were just focusing on drinking this meal away and moving on to 2017.
Service was slow and many guests complained- we didn't mind because we were not in a rush but the 7pm seatings had New Years plans that they had to miss since it took so long for them to finish.
We asked the server if the head chef quit or something because the food was pretty awful for any price, let alone a
$75 per person prefix menu. This was our most expensive and the worst meal in Savannah.
I wish we read reviews like this before choosing this restaurant.
We arrived on New Years for a 8:00 reservation while we were in town from North Carolina. I am originally from Savannah so have eaten at many of the fine dinning establishments. This how ever was the worst and most expensive dinner my wife and I have ever been apart of in all the cities we have traveled.
We had to sit at the bar until our table was ready which is fine but it took 30 minutes for that it happen. We were taken up stairs via the service elevator because the hostess was too lazy to walk us up the stairs. The menu was limited for that night which was unexpected and at a cost of $75 a person for four course meal. There was one waitress serving 7 tables which is problem number one. It took forever to get food and refills. In all we spent almost 3 hours in this place. Appetizer and salad were horrible. Entree was ok and the cheese cake tasted like an over cooked egg.
Overall this was not a terrible night out in Savannah.
Overall our experience was poor. Although the food was very good, the waitress was very nice but service was incredibly slow. We waited for drinks for more than 30 minutes. A large gratuity was also added to our bill, however considering the slow service, 15% would have been more appropriate. As a medical professional I was also surprised to hear that a restaurant would not accommodate someone whose been diagnosed with a medical condition by either discounting the price of a pre-set menu or offering any sort of substitute.
We went for New Years Eve dinner. We were seated in a little room upstairs that seemed better suited to small parties rather than multiple couples. From the website and reviews we were expecting live piano music, however this was not the case. The room was severely understaffed and the one waitress serving all of us was unable to keep our drinks filled and serve us in a timely manner. The food was edible at best, but did not warrant the set price of $75. We are visiting Savannah and have had many outstanding meals here, but we were very disappointed by this experience.
Reserved table for New Year's Eve with wife after last minutes plans were made. Found this place and thought it was worth a shot. Only menu offered was a "New Year's Menu" for $75 per person, forcing you to take a 4-course meal each. Prices were decent on regular menu, but this "special" menu was overpriced. Lamb was not cooked properly, meat chewy and not well flavored. Filet steak was okay, but far from the taste of what it should have been for this type of plating and atmosphere. Service was not proper for this setting, the service provided was more typical of a AppleBee's type establishment. Not sure if this place intends on hanging around very long, but they will need to step it up on service and food quality. Needless to say I was disappointed to spend $200 on food (water and only 1 adult beverage) and service that just wasn't worth it.
We began the evening with entering the restaurant and being directed to the second floor to a small room where there were 7 separate tables set up for dining. The restaurant had one server taking care of this entire room. This would not have been that big of an issue if the server knew what she was doing. Drinks remained unfilled throughout the evening with our table and everyone else's. Our food was barely acceptable and nowhere near matching the price we were paying. My wife, who also happened to be pregnant, ordered her lamb chops well done only to find the meat cooked medium at best. She asked the server if they could fix this and she returned it to the kitchen. Once recooked the meat was still pink. At this point we were ready to hurry up and go. Or dessert was a disaster as well. We saw our desert at the service table for a good 20 minutes while she was busy bussing tables and taking other orders. We finished our meals well before the next course arrived, and this was no different with dessert. To top it off, the cheesecake tasted like cardboard. After all of this, we received our bill which had 20% automatic gratuity already applied. After reluctantly paying for this meal, we tried to talk to the manager. While explaining all of the issues that occurred the manager did not appear to care at all, simply saying "I'm sorry" and walking away. The level of service at this dinner was the worst we experienced in a very long time, and certainly the worst service in Savannah. This was the most expensive disappointment in our trip.
The appetizer (lobster) was over cooked, soup was extremely salty, Ahi tuna came out white/over cooked, reorder was better, cheesecake was inedible.
Dishes/plates were not removed from the table before the next course arrived to the table & the food was brought out room temp or cold.
We had a reservation on a Friday night. The staff was welcoming and spoke highly of the chef. We ordered the stuffed pastry app, which was ok. The sauce overpowered it a bit. We ordered two entrees: pasta primavera and the lamb chops. With the pasta, the vegetables are served around the edge of the bowl, whereas typically they are served combined. Too many sliced carrots for my taste. The other dish was the lamb chops which were good, with the same sauce as the stuffed pastry.it came with fried polenta and sun dried tomatoes. Neither were good. The tomatoes were really hard and we're just tossed onto the plate. The polenta was rather bland. All in all, the entrees were a disappointment. The service and ambiance were nice though.
The welcome and friendly atmosphere made for a very special evening. Was quaint and relaxing, the live piano music was just right and a nice bonus to the evening. My wife and I would certainly recommend this for couples that just want a nice evening together.
Nine Drayton is a nice looking restaurant not far from the waterfront. The tables are well set with table cloths. The pre-dinner drinks at the bar were enjoyable; the service was friendly; the food was nice (but see below).
However, the restaurant was almost empty, yet it wasn't late on a Wednesday; there was therefore no atmosphere; my wife had the chef's special, but we had to send it back as it was inedible, which is shocking as it should have been the best choice. We both wanted it to be a good experience, but it wasn't. A shame.
We were at 9 Drayton by ourselves two weeks ago and liked it so much we invited our regular dinning out friends to join us. We were first there on a Thursday night, but it was even better on Saturday when there was a piano player...a really good piano player. The music was wonderful...perfect background for small group discussion. A couple of things that we had that we just loved: the bread, the seafood spinach and artichoke dip, the vegetarian pasta with Spanish saffron sauce. Our wait staff were very personable and attentive.
We really have had very good experiences and will be back in another week with other friends.
Was looking for Maxwell's, one of my favorites. After online research, found this restaurant. Maxwells moved and changed name, but it is the same menu and great food. There is also live piano music. Wonderful! And the delicious cheesecakes made by owner's mother. So glad you did not disappear Maxwells. I would be there at least weekly if I lived in Savannah. Great bar and ambience too. Service was excellent.. Our wonderful server, sorry cannot remember her name, but she speaks 5 languages, was over the top and so enjoyed talking to her.
This was my second visit to Nine Drayton and it was absolutely one of the best meals I've had in the city. The food was fresh, the service was superb and the ambiance was cozy and relaxing. I had the Veal Chop which was fabulous. I will definitely return to Nine Drayton because it's as good or better than any other downtown establishment. I highly recommend visiting if you are looking for an all around great dining experience.
As we walked in the door we were immediately greeted by a kind lady (who we later found out was the owner) and were escorted to our table. The building itself had so much character and the décor was tastefully done. Our server was very knowledgeable about the wine list and dinner menu and recommended several of his favorites. We started with the Fried Lobster Tail which was a weekend special, Steamed Mussels and the Shrimp and Grits for our appetizers. I chose the Caesar salad but another person at our table had the Roasted Beet Salad which looked absolutely delicious. For our Entrees, I had the Petit Filet which was cooked perfectly medium rare. Another person at our table had the Salmon which was served with a Roasted Red Pepper Risotto that was to die for. Also, one of our dinner guests had the Duck. He said it was the best he had ever had. The food, I must say, was unbelievable! The Bartender, Duane was professional and very attentive without being overbearing. We appreciated that. His drinks were great and his Mint Julep was outstanding . After dinner we went up to the rooftop terrace and enjoyed the remainder of our evening in this private outdoor getaway. We shall return to Nine Drayton. As soon as word gets around how fabulous this establishment is you won't be able to get in the door! It was the perfect evening and we can't wait to return.
Our meal was superb--the staff were so responsive to our needs and yet balanced the high level of attention with an uncanny ability to "stay invisible." We love good food, good vibes, wonderful atmosphere, and 9 Drayton had it all. The live music--a wonderful "lagniappe"...little extra, that was anything but little. We'll be back!!!
Started out great. Wonderful atmosphere. Good drinks. Food was not good at all. Paid entirely too much for a filet that MGHT have been 3-4 oz. No seasoning or char on steak. Sat on plate with what looked and tasted like a jarred sauce and a few unseasoned potato wedges.
My husband had a steak and crab dish that tasted like Stouffers stuffing. Couldn't even taste the crab. Steak was over cooked.
VERY disappointed in overall experience.
Much better food in Savannah. Too bad the places with great atmosphere and bad food can't combine with the good food/ no atmosphere. They would have it made.
Will not repeat. Too many good places that have the whole package
The atmosphere was just as good as the food at this little known new gem. The Beef Stephanie was fantastic as was the seafood/spinach/artichoke dip. Extensive wine list. Mike, the pianist/vocalist really completed the perfect ambiance in this intimate venue with exposed brick, fireplace, and great lighting. We'll be back.
Drinks were good, we had martinis before we ate and wine with dinner. The avocado spring roll was great! I heard others complaining about slow service but I enjoyed a bit of time between my courses. I had the duck, it was not as crispy as I like it but the sauce was nice. I over heard a waiter tell the table near me the normal chef was not on so I'd give them another shot next time I'm in Savannah. The restaurant was very cute, great place for date night.
Atmosphere and service was excellent. Not crowded so it was quiet. The food was good and drinks were good pours, although it took a while to get drinks. They couldn't bring themselves to cook one of our group's steak enough, so it had to go back, and still wan't cooked enough. I enjoyed it and would return.
