I had their thin spaghetti which was phenomenal! I will definitely be craving that for some time. My date got the lamb dish and it was a little disappointing. For $40 you get a huge thing of the sweet potato mash and TWO small pieces of lamb. What a rip off. My date said the lamb was good but the sweet potato tasted watery.
Nice restaurant but for the price it really wasn’t all that.
Outstanding breadth of menu items. Best dining option near MSG for pre-concert or pre-game meal.
The food, the service, the atmosphere was just what we were looking for. The filet mignon and onion soup were out of this world. Dessert was great too.
Eh ... nothing wrong with it. Close to MSG, prompt seating. Food served timely. It was OK, but nothing special.
Everything was great! Noise level a bit high if you want to have a serious conversation.
This is the second time we have been here and like last time enjoyed the food and service.
Both times were on a Sunday in the early evening. Which seems to be their quiet time.
Cannot give an honest review what it would be on a week day or perhaps a Saturday evening.
Slow service and generally overpriced. Some food came out warm at best. Seems like a place that has lost its way.
I'VE BEEN TWICE NOW AND BOTH TIMES IT WAS EXCELLENT. HIGHLY RECOMMEND IF YOU NEED TO BE NEAR MSG FOR A SHOW OR GAME OR MEET SOMEONE FROM OUT OF TOWN. GREAT LOCATION AND THE FOOD AND COCKTAILS ARE GREAT.
It's obvious they have a new chef. Not only was the food an improvement over the past few times I was there, the food was GREAT! Our table was quiet. Many tables are not. The bass was outstanding and the vegetable substitution for potatoes was done without a fuss.
This place was amazing, quiet, and clean!! Pricing was reasonable as well!!
Excellent experience each and every time.
I love the restaurant, the staff are all incredibly friendly and food wonderful. It's a bit of a hidden gem. It's an "energetic" place - not for quiet conversations, but good for business dinner. But, with love, I would suggest the staff in the back keep an eye out for the tables in the front a little more carefully. It took so long for my friends dessert (ice cream) to come to the table, he sent it back and my friends asked to select another restaurant (I picked Niles) for our get-together next month. On other occasions I've had to ask the bartender (walking over to the bar) to ask the waiter to bring a bill (other visits). Just a suggestion that the staff be asked to walk the front of the restaurant. This is small difficulty and please know the restaurant is a favorite of mine.
The restaurants in the Times Square area are either chains (like Ruby Tuesdays) or somewhat expensive eateries that serve full meals. When I arrive at Penn Station from the Long Island Railroad, before I head up to a show in or near Times Square, it is convenient to walk across the street to eat at Niles. It is relaxing and pleasant, the menu has a variety of lighter options (for ladies who lunch), the service is fine and the bathrooms are great. After lunch, it is a quick walk or subway ride to the theater.
Food was good. Atmosphere is basic bland hotel restaurant ambience. Service was AWOL. They took our order in a reasonable time, delivered it promptly and then we never saw anyone again, until we had to chase a busboy down to get the check. This was at 1:45 PM when the restaurant was 1/2 full, and many managers (but not servers) were milling about. Inexcusable. The only thing this restaurant is good for is being across the street from MSG, but I can't imagine being in a hurry here, because you'd miss your game/concert/etc.
Good food - Service was fine - decent business lunch spot
Service was excellent as was the food!
Convenient location for events at MSG.
Attentive staff accommodating so you can make your show/game on time
Great go to place.
Have been thwre for dinners, business lunches and never disappointed.
Good value. Inexpensive by city standards
Food is light and quite good. Service was excellent and price was reasonable ... good place to meet before a game or show at MSG
The restaurant was brightly lit but still enjoyable. The food and service were both fantastic. I was very delighted by the very reasonable cost for fine dining in New York City. The only reason for four stars was that the restaurant was a little noisy and hard to hear a conversation across the table. However, the reasonable prices and exceptional food was worth the noise
Birthday celebration. Dinner before concert. Service excellent . Food was delicious and hot ! Definitely return when we are in the area.
Our group of lifelong friends meets a few times a year in NYC for lunch. Two of us come in from NJ so the location across from Penn Station is an important factor. Love the food and service. Niles never disappoints!
This restaurant never fails to deliver. Food and service always amazing. Nicest and most accommodating staff ever. A favorite for sure.
Terribly slow service even though it was empty on Valentine's Day. Undercooked food. I would never go back
Perfect spot for a romantic dinner before a Knicks or Rangers game at the garden!!
Every year we go to New York in February to watch the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show and always dine at the Niles at least two nights. The quality of the food and the service are excellent and consistent!
Went to Niles yesterday for breakfast/brunch before a Knicks game at MSG. Place was just across the street, and food was good and solid value - brunch for 4 was $80 with tax and tip
The Chilean Sea Bass was great!! Service was a little slow since we were there during shift change but overall good!
Great for dinner before seeing concert at MSG. Very convenient location to MSG, although service can be a little slow and you have to waive down a waiter for service. The wait staff is very attentive when you get their attention.
I loved the look of the bar area in the front and the private room on the side but not too impressed with the main dining area where I sat.
The service staff was attentive and friendly. The food tasty and prepared in a timely fashion.
Niles is a lovely restaurant, classy n comfortable at the same tine. Menu has a good selection of items. Been there 4 times n each time, and satisfied with my choice of entree every time. It can get loud with large groups but otherwise was quaint. The entrance is narrow n can be missed if u are walling to fast but the atmosphere after u go in is lovely.
The chicken and pasta dishes were very good. The bass however was not served as a steak but cut in 1/2 to the depth of a piece of flounder and they served the very narrow tail end as well. Our guest was not happy with his meal. We were disappointed as it was his 60th birthday. Not what was expected or promised by the server when he asked when he ordered. Two teas and a dessert were taken off the bill. I’m glad the person came to inquire about the meal.
Was very happy with the food and service . Striped bass is excellent . Atmosphere completely lacking any warmth.
First of all, I love the menu. I hadn't been to Niles for about a year and the menu has improved. Secondly, the food was great. We had burrata and sea bass and both were delicious, well-seasoned, etc. etc.
The best thing is that it is kitty-corner from Penn Station so as a person who has to schlep from NJ to see friends in New York, it is refreshingly convenient/easy/close.
Great!! I loved it.
Great location to meet since we arrived to nyc by NJT and LIRR.
We were seated on time. Restaraunt was not busy at 5:30 pm.
The Salmon dish was just ok. I be had better here. Two of us had the seafood over pasta which was very tasty. The short ribs were tasty as was the margarita pizza.
Service very attentive.
Excellent service and a varied menu. The food was great. The sea bass melted in my mouth and
my wife's steak was perfectly done.
Niles never disappoints. The wait-staff are friendly and flexible and always helpful. And the food is solidly good.
Ambiance nice. Staff pleasant. Food good. Service a little slow
Our family loves Niles. We live in Suffolk County. Anytime we come in on the LIRR we
make a reservation at Niles. Excellent food and service. Manager always stops by the
table to see how everything is going. Our granddaughter loves the pretzel chicken.
Please never take it off the menu. I always have a fish dish. Preparation is kind on
the eye and delicious.
We stayed at the hotel and decided to have brunch there before our show. The food was reasonably priced for NYC and the ambiance was nice. The service was a little slow as I had to quickly get my check and pay so we did not miss our curtain call. Would try maybe lunch or dinner here if we stay at the hotel again.
