Niles New York City Ratings and Reviews
Niles is a lovely restaurant, classy n comfortable at the same tine. Menu has a good selection of items. Been there 4 times n each time, and satisfied with my choice of entree every time. It can get loud with large groups but otherwise was quaint. The entrance is narrow n can be missed if u are walling to fast but the atmosphere after u go in is lovely.
The chicken and pasta dishes were very good. The bass however was not served as a steak but cut in 1/2 to the depth of a piece of flounder and they served the very narrow tail end as well. Our guest was not happy with his meal. We were disappointed as it was his 60th birthday. Not what was expected or promised by the server when he asked when he ordered. Two teas and a dessert were taken off the bill. I’m glad the person came to inquire about the meal.
First of all, I love the menu. I hadn't been to Niles for about a year and the menu has improved. Secondly, the food was great. We had burrata and sea bass and both were delicious, well-seasoned, etc. etc.
The best thing is that it is kitty-corner from Penn Station so as a person who has to schlep from NJ to see friends in New York, it is refreshingly convenient/easy/close.
Great!! I loved it.
Great location to meet since we arrived to nyc by NJT and LIRR.
We were seated on time. Restaraunt was not busy at 5:30 pm.
The Salmon dish was just ok. I be had better here. Two of us had the seafood over pasta which was very tasty. The short ribs were tasty as was the margarita pizza.
Service very attentive.
Our family loves Niles. We live in Suffolk County. Anytime we come in on the LIRR we
make a reservation at Niles. Excellent food and service. Manager always stops by the
table to see how everything is going. Our granddaughter loves the pretzel chicken.
Please never take it off the menu. I always have a fish dish. Preparation is kind on
the eye and delicious.
We stayed at the hotel and decided to have brunch there before our show. The food was reasonably priced for NYC and the ambiance was nice. The service was a little slow as I had to quickly get my check and pay so we did not miss our curtain call. Would try maybe lunch or dinner here if we stay at the hotel again.
The server, Jorge A, was not very friendly or attentive at all. At one point he even threw the check on the table. I had previously been to this restaurant and enjoyed it. However, now I am not sure I will be back or continue to recommend this establishment. Very disappointing.
Going to Madison Square Garden so I chose Niles. Big room. Noisy. Parents let baby scream incessantly for 10 minutes. People changed their table. Staff did nothing. I understand that babies fuss but a responsible parent removes the child after two or three minutes. Staff should not allow one patron to dominate a room. Food ok but not special. Will try another next time I get Knick’s tickets.
Not terrible, but definitely not worth the money. Crab cocktail was just not fresh. Restaurant appears to be a converted basement, with odd decor... like they tried to spruce it up, but didn't really succeed. Can still smell cigarette smoke from whatever it used to be.
Went there for breakfast on Christmas Day. Perhaps that was the problem.
The food was average without the typical components (i.e.- any place I've ever ordered steak and eggs, it would usually come with toast.....er not here....). The portions were a bit small, and the steak was a bit gristly. The staff was courteous but pretty absent minded. We had to ask for simple things several times (water refills, sugar.....pretty much anything).
The tab was higher than the value of the food.
Menu items we enjoyed included scallop appetizer, lobster bisque, Chilean sea bass, and filet mignon. The filet was cooked perfectly, the sea bass was just right, and the apps were hearty and delicious. The service was unmatched and the contemporary ambiance was serene, perfect for conversation and good company. Highly recommended.
I think the service was excellent and the food was fresh and tasty. It has a modern feel, but still maintains a warm character. As it’s next to a hotel there’s a diverse mix of patrons all pleasant. If your going to be at the Garden it’s a perfect location.
A great spot across from Penn Station/Madison Square Garden. Interesting fare. Nice bar setting with three tables in the window. Other tables are down a few stairs , large open space but amazingly quiet so you an actually enjoy the conversation at your table without fighting to be heard over other tables. Cocktails and wine list are good.
Why does no one know about this place? I use it all the time when I have an event close to Penn station and yet it is never listed on google searches for good eats by Penn station.
This was my guests first-time at Niles and they experienced it as LOVELY!!
Our waiter was wonderful- as the staff always is.
just a delightful eating experience
