Niles New York City Ratings and Reviews
A great spot across from Penn Station/Madison Square Garden. Interesting fare. Nice bar setting with three tables in the window. Other tables are down a few stairs , large open space but amazingly quiet so you an actually enjoy the conversation at your table without fighting to be heard over other tables. Cocktails and wine list are good.
Why does no one know about this place? I use it all the time when I have an event close to Penn station and yet it is never listed on google searches for good eats by Penn station.
This was my guests first-time at Niles and they experienced it as LOVELY!!
Our waiter was wonderful- as the staff always is.
just a delightful eating experience
Beautiful restaurant and a lovely meal. My only issue was the fact we could never find our waiter. First, it took almost 10 minutes for someone to take our order, had to hunt him down for water (which was never given from the beginning), and then finally got someone else to look for him to get the check. This was lunch time. It wasn’t that busy for him to disappear like that. How unfortunate considering the food was great.
Service was good for the most part, however, the waiter came to take the order while I was in the bathroom. Should have waited till party was all seated. Food was just ok. Nothing special. Hubby had the Rib Eye but the spinach tasted burnt & the portbello potato pastry on the side was very greasy & did not taste good. I had filet mignon, mashed potatoes were bland. Friend had chilean seabass which he said was good but seafood risotto it came with was not good. We went before a concert in the garden so they were quick with getting us out in time for the show. All in all it was just ok. Prob won't go back. There are better restaurants in the city
Lively bar scene up front. We ate in the back. Delighted to be able to hear each other! Waiters were very attentive and nice. Food took too long to come and was good but not great. My chicken paillard was a very flat piece of grilled chicken, dry with no gravy or sauce of any kind. My guests had fish and their sauces were gloppy and too sweet. It is a hotel after all! Nevertheless, quite an oasis from the bustle just outside the door.
Found Niles NYC on Open Table, invited a friend to brunch for her belated birthday, she couldn't do brunch so we met for dinner instead; it was wonderful. I hadn't tried scallops before; they were delicious. The warm lava cake was absolutely decadent. When my friend arrived, she realized she had been to Niles previously - meeting relatives for cocktails. Very nice.
Staff is very pleasant. I asked for a quiet table towards the back, and they gave us a really nice table that was quiet. We went there for a Thanksgiving dinner, which was very good and reasonable. One of our group is a vegan, and they had several choices for her. Everyone was happy.
Dined here with friends before a concert at MSG. Perfect location to be steps away from the venue. Grabbed a drink in the bar and then had a lovely meal in the dining room. Had requested a quiet spot and they obliged with a table in the back corner. All four of us enjoyed our dinners. Two were celebrating birthdays and they surprised us with a special dessert. Would recommend for a great meal especially if going to Madison Square Garden.
Everything from the drink at the bar to the spaced out dinner was outrageous! The service is fantastic! I was slightly hesitant w the review here ..so glad We went ...it’s the perfect place if you are going to a show at MSG!
Creatively presented plates, great food, good atmosphere. Service was a bit slow but we wanted the time hanging out so it was no issue to us at all. The staff was very professional and attentive. Recommend the shrimp appetizer! I will definitely go back to try other items on the menu!
The food was very good. The atmosphere was reasonably good, but there was quite a bit of background noise. Service was good to start, but I had a difficult time tracking down my waiter to order a second drink; eventually a different waiter noticed me looking around and took my order. Otherwise, a very enjoyable experience. We were in the neighborhood for an event at MSG. Should I attend an event there in the future, I won't hesitate to go back.
When going to the theater, Niles has been my husband's and my steady, go-to restaurant for years. This past Wednesday was our last, due to horrible service and an awful meal. After we placed our order, the server disappeared. We were able to flag down a water service person to request water and olive oil for our bread in lieu of the butter that was hastily placed on our table before the server fled. The soup of the day, Black Bean, was a watery broth laden with tortilla strips, without a single whole black bean to be had. Any hint of making the soup special -- a small dollop of sour cream, perhaps? -- also was absent. My husband's lobster salad sandwich was laden with mayonnaise, making the scant amount of lobster unrecognizable. The salmon on my cob salad was cold, not even room temperature, and half-cooked. With our server still AWOL, and other servers seeming overly busy, there was no one who was about to help. With a show to catch, I pushed the salmon to the side and ate my salad. My husband plodded through his mediocre sandwich. Alas, after we were finished, our server reappeared and said, "Everything was fine?" When I showed him my uneaten, raw salmon, and told him that I would have preferred being asked about my meal earlier, he took the plate, saying, "I'll show this to the manager and "fix" your bill." He returned, saying that our bill was "fixed" and did we care for a cup of coffee on the house? We ordered 2 cappuccinos, which is what we always order. When the server returned with the check, a scanty $8 was deducted and we were charged for 2 cappuccinos. Since our meal was all but inedible and the service nonexistent, the very least the manager could have done, was fully comp my salmon salad and perhaps one $5 cappuccino? Rather than argue our point to a manager who didn't care, we paid and left with a very bad taste in our mouths. Obviously, earning our business was less important than taking our money, which Niles won't see again.
Going to the home opener of the Knicks at Madison Square Garden. Af first I was disappointed to learn a restaurant I really liked which was across the street closed I found Niles, and was glad I did. The food ambiance and service are incredible. I am so glad I found this restaurant. I have already made my next reservation for the next Knicks home game Pre dinner. If you are in the MSG area you should try this restaurant as you will be glad you did.
One of my lunch party was forgotten with the drink order and the same person's food order was incorrect. He wound up with only a cup of black bean soup. When the server couldn't seem to understand that his order was not received, it was too late as the other members of the meal were almost finished.
The restaurant is convenient to Madison Square Garden, which is pretty much the only reason we picked it, as we had a show to see. The place is very noisy, our waiter switched halfway through dinner without telling us, and the atmosphere in general was just ok, at best. The food was good, not great. For the lobster and avocado salad - the evening's special- the lobster seemed like it had been previously frozen and was almost tasteless. And they forgot to give us avocado, which we had to track dish the waiter to get! I am not sure I'll be back.
There was a big bar scene happening when we arrived and the noise level was quite high which concerned me. We were assured it was significantly quieter in the dining room and it was. The bar scene also did not last long. The food and service were both excellent and it was a comfortable and pleasant experience.
Nice place, conveniently next to MSG.The service was good. The food was very good, well prepared nice presentation and decent portions. Only disappointment was the wine list. Low quality mass produced wines at a ridiculously high mark up. Eat the good food with beer.
