This was a very pleasant 1st time dining experience. The view from our table was magnificent and the atmosphere was quiet while not stuffy. Our waitress knew every detail of the 3-5 course menu. Cocktails and wine were excellent. Will dine again.
Food need improved, I used to go that restaurant in past 26 years ago. Completely change service and food are completely different
The food was fantastic! 4 of us went and shared bites of each other's meals and it was all wonderful. I got the duck and it's some of the best I've ever had. The service was great and the view of the city at night was beautiful. This is a great special occasion place.
We enjoyed dinner and unfortunately, we became short on time for our concert and unable to have dessert with our 4 course meal. I feel like we should have let our waiter know ahead of time but we did not and had to rush out. Food was wonderful and my daughter and I enjoyed trying new dishes.
We went for my wife's b-day on a Friday night. Great experience all around. We had Scott as out server, he recommended us great choices and fantastic service!
The place is nice and quiet. Service is very good. The only problem is the food. The starters and the deserts were very good. For the main course, 4 of us we ordered 2 lamp chops and 2 sheared sea bass. Both the lamp chops is very tough ( a lot of hard cutting ) and tasteless. Just pieces of meat with no favor, not even the taste of lamp. The shear bass is slightly over cook and also no taste (maybe forzen too long). We get this dinner through TravelZoo special deal. If we have to pay full price, it would not be worth the money.
It was very lackluster. Food was so so, not the ambiance of days gone by.
Would have liked to reserve a window view from the reservation.
Felt like a restaurant selling non gourmet food on fancy plates and charging a lot for it. everything was OK with the exception of lamb entree and deserts which were awful, but not worth the amount of money we spent. Service was ok not great either. just a very weird dinning experience where i felt like we were on the show punked. and someone was about to walk out and let us know we were on camera
New Year’s dinner not worth 120 a person
The view from Nikolai's Roof was fantastic and the food was very good. Unfortunately, the service was somewhat confused: chef's appetizer being delivered twice, cheese course being brought before the entree course, the vintage of the wine not matching that on the wine list, etc. The meal was nice, but some attention does need to be paid to service details.
The food and the service were both outstanding. The ambiance is relaxing and the views of downtown Atlanta make for a great date night spot with your significant other.
Birthday... food was delicious! Recommend !!
I haven’t been here in many years. I wasn’t expecting anything great as the format that I loved (the original Russian themed restaurant ) changed years ago.
I was pleasantly surprised! This was the best dining experience I have had in Atlanta in a long time. There really aren’t many elegant special occasion places left in Atlanta. Well, this will now be my go to for special occasions .
The food, service and views are all excellent.
To top it off, the Godiva chocolate soufflé was the best soufflé I’ve ever had (and I’ve had many, all over the world ). We enjoyed every course in our 4 course meal.
Simply a wonderful customer service and delicious meal!
There was only one person manning the host station, and he was responsible for seating guests, fetching coats, snapping multiple photos and Lord knows what else. This led to about a 7-minute wait before getting any attention paid. After that, table service was fantastic. My waiter was a relatively young gentleman, but terrifically old school in his ability to be spot-on in timing as well as friendly formality.
The room was not overly crowded but was spectacularly loud, in part due to a not terribly well behaved child at a table as far as one could get diagonally from my spot. (Parents, if you're going to enjoy an evening out with the kids, private dining rooms can make it a win-win for all concerned) generally my late dining habits protect me from such things but not on this particular evening.
Shaved brussel sprouts were by far my favorite dish. Absolutely no complaints about the diver scallops. The pasta was the most pedestrian dish, but even it had its moments. And a chocolate souffle is after all a chocolate soufflé-- complaining about one is a bit like complaining about San Diego's weather.
Few people dining in the room with me that evening were alive the last time this was the finest restaurant in the state, but it was good to enjoy a perfectly tasty meal along with that view and some old russian-flavored memories.
Beautiful venue with great panoramic views of the city! Fabulous foods with a unique "course ordering" premise. Great service. Terrific location for a special occasion or celebration! Thanks for a wonderful evening!
Hi, Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are so happy you enjoyed yourselves. What kept you from giving us 5 stars? I would like to fix that issue. Hope to see you again soon. Cheers,
It was simply awesome . Staff was friendly and courteous. Food was served on a timely manner.
We had an incredible meal here. The atmosphere was romantic (low, soft lighting and music), albeit a little noisier than I thought it would be, so sometimes I felt like I was yelling a bit. Our waitress Manuela, as well as the rest of the waitstaff, was knowledgeable and attentive. The food was delicious and left us very full despite the smaller portions. We chose to do the 4-course meal fearing that the 3-course would not be enough, but we were stuffed! The only part of the meal that was not great was the cheese board. I don’t feel that the diversity of cheeses, nor the accompaniments, was up to par for this caliber of restaurant. The prices were also a little extravagant, but I guess you’re also paying for the glorious view!
Fantastic service and food. My wife and I were treated exceptionally well and each course became our new favorite. I felt the value was excellent, we had an excellent experience and we look forward to dining there again.
Went on Thursday night before SEC championship game, and we’re one of 2 tables there, which is strange for a restaurant in a very full hotel. Had been there many years ago and loved it but did not spend time researching menu or reviews. View was beautiful but ambiance dated and freezing cold. The waiter never explained how the ordering worked, and the menu had no prices but didn’t say it was prix fixe. I never ordered entree (as usual), not realizing I had to, but was never prompted to do so by our server. Tried to charge us for four full meals even though we only had 5 apps and 2 entrees with no dessert. Thankfully we negotiated the price down as this was fully on the waiter. Food tasted wonderful but the overall experience left us with a bad taste.
Great food great date we could enjoy each other over a nice meal.
Food was amazing! The way you order from the menu was a bit confusing for a first time visitor so I wish they would have explained a bit more how the ordering process works. Otherwise it was great,!
My first time at an old Atlanta fine dining institution. My wife and I had the five-course experience (we did not opt for cheese). While you won't find anything truly novel, what you'll find are elegant and accessible dishes, all excellently prepared; you're bound to make a good impression if you bring folks here for dinner. The offerings lean more towards the traditional French side but with a little bit of new American and Slavic, from a Brussels sprout salad with crunchy seeds and a hint of mustard to a satisfying mushroom toast with rich earthy mushrooms and a round, tangy aioli; the excellent cooking features crispy, flavorful sears and good side pairings. Even a very ordinary-looking apple galette featured delightful pastry and a nice bourbon ice cream on top. The wine on offer is also very good; the waitstaff shaped their pairings to what we liked rather than specific dishes, but it was a great complement to the meal.
My husband and I celebrated our 10th year anniversary here and had a wonderful time. Our waiter was amazing, the food was amazing, and the view was amazing.
Our server was so nice, polite, and attentive. We celebrated my fiancee’s birthday with a lovely 5 course meal. Our favorite was the Brussel sprout salad and the scallops! Yum!
I would have given a 5 star but I had to send my steak back twice
Food OK, but nothing extraordinary. Our server was OK, but it almost looked like he couldn't wait to finish his shift. We've observed others (and heard some comments from customers) and they were not too happy.
Wonderful experience. Would ABSOLUTELY go back. If you are in Atlanta—GO!
I will recommend Nikolai’s for a one time special occasion. The food is great, service is excellent. The place could be renovated, the restaurant area is too small. The view is just ok. I prefer the Sun Dial for their view and style. Nikolai’s food is great but I believe is too expensive.
In general, I liked Nikolai's Roof. The view is decent especially at night, but the Sundial has a better view. The food was good. Other places in this price range send small gifts from the chef between courses, but Nikolai's did not. The food was well seasoned and cooked. It did not have the the take my breathe away flavor, but was not bland. In a nutshell, I would just describe the restaurant as decent.
Went to see if Nikolai’s offered the same wonderful dining experience as “the old days”. Things have definitely changed since the time Cossack waiters served straight flavors vodka, but the ambiance, the sophistication and the food and service are still there! Great night of dining. Will be back.
We came partially for the view, which is indeed amazing, but the food, service and atmosphere beat the view!! It was a wonderful evening that I will recommend again and again to my friends and family. Compliments go out to the chef and wait staff -- excellent on both counts. We will return!
We first came to Nikolais roof 36 years ago. We have continued to come due to the exceptional food and service. It’s a very nice anniversary or birthday spot. Delicious.
Scott was a very attentive & gracious waiter!
FAN-FREAK'N-TAS-TIC! IN EVERY MANNER POSSIBLE! We went out for wife's birthday and it will be one that we will remember for the rest of our lives!
The view was spectacular and the food was even better! The beef tenderloin was incredibly tender. We can’t wait to go back!
Overall we had a great experience. Our sever Manuela was exceptional
