Nic's Beverly Hills - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
I booked reservations for my bday, the menu has very low selection. It took 30 min. Wait For the appetizer. The main course has very small quantities, I ordered gnocchi it literally had 10 in plate. I actually had a good experience the 1st time I was there. Second time around the menu changed and service was very bad!
This place was a great find, delicious food and good service. We were very well received at the entrance and taken to a nice intimate spot in the restaurant. We went on a Monday for the all day happy hour, but apparently they had stopped doing it a few months ago, but they still had it advertised on the website, the server asked the owner and they honored it which was awesome! It's a bit pricey on a regular basis but the happy hour menu was great both food and drinks.
Nic's is 19 years young and still one of my favorite restaurants in LA. We started with a trip to the VodBox and enjoyed a variety of fabulous vodkas. Dinner typically kicks off with the oyster specialty and the four of us splurged on caviar plus duck and fish for the main courses. Larry and his family are absolutely the best hosts in LA and we highly recommend this restaurant.
We had a great time. It was actually quite slow when we went at 7pm on a Saturday Night. Our server was excellent and the food came out exactly as expected. Everything was great. Our only 'complaint' was that the burger was stacked SO high it was impossible to get a full bite of all the toppings. We'd love for the onions to be caramelized and a slightly thinner later of tomato. We are burger snobs...so don't take this as a negative - the hand chopped burger was great and a medium rare was a REAL medium rare...not a 'safe' medium like a lot of places still cook it to. The
Drinks were great, ambiance was great and service was great. If you get there before 7 - they have a small happy hour list you may want to take advantage of.
Overall wonderful experience with Dinner at Nic's on Saturday. Evening started out by phoning restaurant as the traffic was horrific and we were going to be 1/2 hour late. No problem. They accomodated us and moved our reservations.
The hostess was extremely gracious and welcomed us. Our waiter was outstanding. Served our every need.
We had a tremendous time and my girlfriend truly enjoyed her experience celebrating her birthday Saturday night at Nic's.
Enjoyed early dinner before Patti Lupone performance @ Wallis theater just across the street. When we left theater later, Nic's was rockin & it was rumored she was dining there after the show & no doubt belting out a tune or 2. Started w/tiny sour cream caviar potatoes, vodka martini & champagne. Loved our waiter, charming! Oysters w/warm spinach & a roasted artichoke & cheese dish were great recommendations over the usual prep of those dishes. Split half chicken but chef gave us each full basket of fries-sweet! Will always choose Nic's when going to Wallis!
Service was not that great- took a while for the orders to be taken and water was barely refilled. There were butter knives on the table and we had to ask the waiter for bread rather than the waiter bringing it out himself.
I brought a cake and custom chocolate covered strawberries (some infused with alcohol) that the hostess kindly took to the kitchen. However, the waiter did not even ask me if we were ready for the candle lit birthday cake. Not all of our guests were at the table as some were dancing in the bar area when the they brought out the cake with candles. They brought out the strawberries afterwards and the tubes with alcohol that were inserted in the strawberries were removed without anyone notifying us.
Food was just OK for the price- The salmon dish was Great. However, others at my table complained about the steak being too tough. For $48, I would expect medium cooked to be tender. Others complained about the Duck dish as well not being flavorful.
Live Band- Great salsa music.
Not wishing to doze during a chamber music event, we wished to dine "lite" and we shared an appetizer (smoked salmon) and an entree (half a grilled chicken). Both were well done and well received. Service was attentive and several good wines were available by the glass. Neither of us was tempted to doze during the David Finckel-Wu Han program thereafter.
We want to Nick's for New Year's eve dinner. The steak was not that great but the chicken was quite good. We felt like the automatic gratuity was overstated -- I don't typically tip 20% on the full value including cocktails and a bottle of wine but oh well. It is a quaint place but not a good value for the NYE prefix.
My parents were visiting from out-of-state and wanted to go somewhere "where the locals hangout." We brought them to Nic's for happy hour, and they really enjoyed it. Great martinis, tasty food and a fun retro vibe. I personally would only come here for happy hour, because I think it's a little overpriced for what you get. A $33 burger? Get out! The service we received was fantastic, though. Great staff.
So my coworkers and I had reservations at Nic's on a Friday night. The food was great. I enjoyed the Ahi for starters and later on the Duck. My martini was the best ever. I forget the name but it was made with serrano chiles.....not for the meek! Dj spun sounds that got the other patrons and my group on our feet. The highlight was the Vodbox. This awesome freezer where the vodkas are stored and sampled. You have to put on faux fur to enter the Vodbox and partake the yummy vodkas. Great crowd. Valet isn't too much and the restaurant does validation. I will definitely be back.
