Nicolosi's - San Diego Ratings and Reviews
Mistakenly thought the Groupon was good for the lunch specials. But that was all right, We ordered a meat lover's pizza to go. The lasagna lunch special was just ok, but the pizza was fabulous. It was loaded with meat. Delicious! Will definitely go back there for pizza.
We've eaten here before, but this was a bad experience. The service was absolutely terrible. The waitress did comp us the wine, but because of such a negative experience we do not plan to return. Never understood what the hostess was trying to tell us about Open Table, but we never got the 100 points although she said we would.
We celebrated my sister's birthday here. We were a party of 7. The service was amazing. Roxanne anticipated our every need and was always available. The bread was soft inside and crusty outside. My favorite. The other entrees such as the Hawaiian pizza, eggplant parmigiana, and gnocchi parmesan were good choices. Roxanne gave us Italian doughnuts with raspberry and chocolate sauces to end our celebration. It was very kind and thoughtful.
We were hopeful to find an Italian restaurant in our neighborhood. The staff is polite, but we did have to wait for our server to greet us because she was in a lengthy conversation with one of the other two groups of diners. Food was okay (good mozerrella), hot, and plentiful. The restauarant was very bright and reminded us of a diner. It was a bit pricey for pasta so we will stick to their pizza carry out.
We had a reservation, but had to wait about 15 minutes to be seated (even though there were empty tables available.) It seemed to take forever for all aspects of the meal, from the server initially getting to our table, getting our appetizers, & finally our entrees (which we received one hour after our arrival.) My pasta was tasty, but not hot. Though our server was very friendly, it was overshadowed by the very slow service.
We were pleasantly surprised when we ate at this neighborhood restaurant on a Monday night. The restaurant was busy and the service was a little slower than it should have been, but our server was very pleasant and explained that they were busier than usual that night. The entrees came with a small salad, which was just the right size and we all liked our entrees: chicken parmesan, eggplant parmesan and spaghetti, all good size portions and well prepared. The atmosphere is casual and relaxed and restaurant was decorated to give a homey, comfortable feeling. Definitely worth repeating.
Went with a friend and was blown away. Started with the buffalo calamari and couldn't believe how good it was. Will def need to try it again. I had the eggplant parm and it was delicious. Very generous portion and the sauce went very well with the eggplant. I even liked the garden salad which came with it.
Food aside, we had a wonderful waitress and she was very attentive and personable. I'm looking forward to my next trip there.
We used to go to this restaurant at its old location. At that time, the restaurant had more of a mom and pop Italian atmosphere. It now reminds me of a cheap restaurant which is on its last legs. When we arrived, we waited for quite a awhile for anyone to acknowledge us. Then the servers decided to tell each other to seat us. I believe there may have finally been a host, but he could have been a server. Most of the time he was watching TV from the host's stand. Our server was perspiring heavily.
The food is okay but way too expensive. A bowl of pasta with chicken and a cheese cream sauce should not be close to $20, especially in an establishment which looks like it has seen better days. If we hadn't had a discount, the bill for an appetizer, a child's meal, two soft drinks, two entrees, a bowl of ice cream, and a cannoli would have been over $70. This place just isn't worth that price.
I was born in 52 and for my 62nd birthday, my husband found this location which is actually near where I grew up in in San Diego. We drove there from Hemet for my birthday dinner. The Eggplant Parmesan and pasta was about all I would eat because I'm vegetarian, but I love it and it was most excellent. We will go again once in awhile when we go to San Diego.
The test of a good Italian place is the meatballs. They had some of the worst. They tasted like mushy bread crumbs with little actual meat. The sauce was decent. The grilled chicken salad had came with a dressing that had no flavor. It tasted like straight oil. Lucky we ordered it on the side. We were sitting in a very small booth and after eating 1/2 the salad and telling the waitress we wanted to take the remainder home she left the large plate on the table leaving no room on the table for the large pizza. I finally had to get up and put it on the empty table next to us. The pizza was decent but undercooked. We were never offered refills on our drinks. The parmesan on the table was lower quality than the stuff in the green can.
We have lived in the neighborhood for three years and finally dined here, out of curiosity. It was a thoroughly pleasant experience. The staff were nice, the restaurant was clean and the food was good. I absolutely don't think the food was worth its price, however. We probably won't return just because of that.
Recently, my father was visiting San Diego and wanted to relive an old family dining memory. Growing up, my family and I would patronize this restaurant for some quality Italian Cuisine. This recent visit did not disappoint. Their menu was excellent growing up when they were located in Allied Gardens and just as great today in their new larger, more convenient location in San Carlos! The friendly wait service was second to none. The food was brought to the table in a rather short amount of time. Their intimate bar is a great place to watch a sporting event while savoring a local craft beer or excellent house wine. Will definitely visit in the near future!
We had several dishes. i do have to say the clams on a half shell (linguine w/red clam sauce) were very good. the chopped clams were tasteless and very chewy...like pencil erasers.
out of 3 adults, none of us were pleased enough to come back again.
the waitress broke the cork in our wine bottle and said she had done that several times during the night. she blamed the corkscrew because she "is a professional." what does that mean? btw, the corkscrew looked relatively new and seemed just fine.
oh well, it is a neighborhood restaurant and gets vibrant business because of that reason.
Salad must have come out of a bag. Bread had no texture. Take a lesson from soluntos bakery for great Italian loaves. Cannoli may be a specialty, but mine was as hard as a lead pipe. Spaghetti sauce was very good as was the service.
Although I indicated both in my reservation request and upon arrival it was my companion's birthday, no special acknowledgement was given by the restaurant. Very disappointed.
