We are regulars and were disappointed with our server. Walked by multiple times without greeting us. She was very short with us almost annoyed that we came in for dinner. It was just disappointing from a service standpoint. The food was however excellent and friendly host staff.
Made a reservation on Open Table, come to find out when arriving at the restaurant that Open Table reservations do not go/show up at the restaurant. I was told that it goes to the owner??? What good is that when I show up at the restaurant and they have no record of my reservation!!!!
Love the service and ambience and the food was amazing!!!
They put all diners into one area until they had to expand to the other side of the room. The conversations from the two tables by us were inescapable. Our waitress Roxanne bordered on abrupt. The sweet marinara, as it’s described in the menu, is in fact, noticeably sweet.
Staff said they don’t get or see the open table reservations - the boss checks them later. Doesn’t that make a reservation pretty useless?
Mistakenly thought the Groupon was good for the lunch specials. But that was all right, We ordered a meat lover's pizza to go. The lasagna lunch special was just ok, but the pizza was fabulous. It was loaded with meat. Delicious! Will definitely go back there for pizza.
We've eaten here before, but this was a bad experience. The service was absolutely terrible. The waitress did comp us the wine, but because of such a negative experience we do not plan to return. Never understood what the hostess was trying to tell us about Open Table, but we never got the 100 points although she said we would.
Great food and service. They don’t have an OpenTable reservation kiosk so I’m not sure how points are calculated.
Took a long time to be served
We celebrated my sister's birthday here. We were a party of 7. The service was amazing. Roxanne anticipated our every need and was always available. The bread was soft inside and crusty outside. My favorite. The other entrees such as the Hawaiian pizza, eggplant parmigiana, and gnocchi parmesan were good choices. Roxanne gave us Italian doughnuts with raspberry and chocolate sauces to end our celebration. It was very kind and thoughtful.
Food was delicious: bruschetta was tasty; baked ravioli great especially the marinara, and angel hair terrific.
We had lasagna and the small antipasto salad and both were delicious!
Antipasto is a favorite. Pizza is a savory experience. Toppings are plentiful and the baked crunchy pepperoni leaves you coming back for more. Warm homemade bread gives the welcoming touch. Desserts are a must... leave room, especially for the cannoli.
Brought family from out of town
Overall, very nice. Took too long to get my meatball and then it was cold.
We were hopeful to find an Italian restaurant in our neighborhood. The staff is polite, but we did have to wait for our server to greet us because she was in a lengthy conversation with one of the other two groups of diners. Food was okay (good mozerrella), hot, and plentiful. The restauarant was very bright and reminded us of a diner. It was a bit pricey for pasta so we will stick to their pizza carry out.
I remember my Mom loving this restaurant (at the old location). Was not impressed. Would not go to either location again.
We regrettably had to leave early, as I took ill. I did enjoy the service for the brief time that we were there.
The staff was very understanding when we explained our circumstances. I will be returning to finish our meal.
Service was a little slow, server had to be reminded several times about drinks or things we asked for
Our server Mackenzie was awesome and very friendly!
We had a reservation, but had to wait about 15 minutes to be seated (even though there were empty tables available.) It seemed to take forever for all aspects of the meal, from the server initially getting to our table, getting our appetizers, & finally our entrees (which we received one hour after our arrival.) My pasta was tasty, but not hot. Though our server was very friendly, it was overshadowed by the very slow service.
Love the new location. Service was great even though someone was being trained at the time. I always get pizza when I go there, and I want to try the pasta next time. I'm happy they have options for vegetarians too.
Pleasant family dining experience. We shared the generous and delightful antipasti salad, followed by a flavorful ministroni soup then an entrée of the chicken penne pesto. Service was friendly, helpful and timely.
We were pleasantly surprised when we ate at this neighborhood restaurant on a Monday night. The restaurant was busy and the service was a little slower than it should have been, but our server was very pleasant and explained that they were busier than usual that night. The entrees came with a small salad, which was just the right size and we all liked our entrees: chicken parmesan, eggplant parmesan and spaghetti, all good size portions and well prepared. The atmosphere is casual and relaxed and restaurant was decorated to give a homey, comfortable feeling. Definitely worth repeating.
Good pizza, friendly service. Nice family style Italian restaurant. Will visit again!
pizza was very good, antipasto salad was larger than most places, service was very attentive. a great experience.
Went with a friend and was blown away. Started with the buffalo calamari and couldn't believe how good it was. Will def need to try it again. I had the eggplant parm and it was delicious. Very generous portion and the sauce went very well with the eggplant. I even liked the garden salad which came with it.
Food aside, we had a wonderful waitress and she was very attentive and personable. I'm looking forward to my next trip there.
It's like a family restaurant, but based on Italian food. Good prices, awesome employees, better than olive garden!
their pizza is pretty dang good, the service was friendly, the restaurant was clean. the only negative was the disorganized hostess who lost control of the lobby between seating, call ins, and pick ups.
Good times with friends. Good pizza and anti pasta salad. Quiet enough to talk. Attentive staff.
We used to go to this restaurant at its old location. At that time, the restaurant had more of a mom and pop Italian atmosphere. It now reminds me of a cheap restaurant which is on its last legs. When we arrived, we waited for quite a awhile for anyone to acknowledge us. Then the servers decided to tell each other to seat us. I believe there may have finally been a host, but he could have been a server. Most of the time he was watching TV from the host's stand. Our server was perspiring heavily.
The food is okay but way too expensive. A bowl of pasta with chicken and a cheese cream sauce should not be close to $20, especially in an establishment which looks like it has seen better days. If we hadn't had a discount, the bill for an appetizer, a child's meal, two soft drinks, two entrees, a bowl of ice cream, and a cannoli would have been over $70. This place just isn't worth that price.
I was born in 52 and for my 62nd birthday, my husband found this location which is actually near where I grew up in in San Diego. We drove there from Hemet for my birthday dinner. The Eggplant Parmesan and pasta was about all I would eat because I'm vegetarian, but I love it and it was most excellent. We will go again once in awhile when we go to San Diego.
The test of a good Italian place is the meatballs. They had some of the worst. They tasted like mushy bread crumbs with little actual meat. The sauce was decent. The grilled chicken salad had came with a dressing that had no flavor. It tasted like straight oil. Lucky we ordered it on the side. We were sitting in a very small booth and after eating 1/2 the salad and telling the waitress we wanted to take the remainder home she left the large plate on the table leaving no room on the table for the large pizza. I finally had to get up and put it on the empty table next to us. The pizza was decent but undercooked. We were never offered refills on our drinks. The parmesan on the table was lower quality than the stuff in the green can.
We have lived in the neighborhood for three years and finally dined here, out of curiosity. It was a thoroughly pleasant experience. The staff were nice, the restaurant was clean and the food was good. I absolutely don't think the food was worth its price, however. We probably won't return just because of that.
Neighborhood place with booths and old fashioned music, food and kindly service. Chicken Marsala with potatoes in a bowl, plus eggplant parmigiana with spaghetti were hearty and full flavored.
This restaurant needs a new owner or manager to pull it into the 21st century.
Usual excellent food and service!! A well run place to enjoy!
Recently, my father was visiting San Diego and wanted to relive an old family dining memory. Growing up, my family and I would patronize this restaurant for some quality Italian Cuisine. This recent visit did not disappoint. Their menu was excellent growing up when they were located in Allied Gardens and just as great today in their new larger, more convenient location in San Carlos! The friendly wait service was second to none. The food was brought to the table in a rather short amount of time. Their intimate bar is a great place to watch a sporting event while savoring a local craft beer or excellent house wine. Will definitely visit in the near future!
Table was ready when we got there, staff was friendly, food was fair.
Great experience for such a busy night, Valentines. I had a reservation and my wife and I walked in and were seated immediately. Thank you for great food and great service.
