Great ambiance, fantastic menu. The braised beef was spectacular. Excellent wine list.
Fresh pasta, never out of a box. Deep flavors, authentic Italian. Great atmosphere and friendly staff.
I've been to Nicolas twice and both visits were outstanding. Homemade pasta was delicious. Authentic Italian cuisine at it's best.
We had a lovely evening. The food was the highlight, followed closely by the wine. Our server was appropriately attentive. The floor plan is very open so there isn’t an intimate feeling but very conducive to small groups. Definitely worth going!
This has become our go to place for Italian food. Most recently I had the risotto with a generous amount of seafood. My wife enjoys the spaghetti on almost every visit. The chef, his wife, and the waitstaff are all personable and friendly. The food is consistently good, I have never been disappointed. The wine recommendations have always been right on.
The food and service was wonderful, the homemade pasta is out of this world and their Beef Wellington special of the evening was fantastic. My only complaint is that it was a bit more expensive than expected. When searching OpenTable for options, this popped up in the $30 & under category, but only the apps, salad/soups, and half of the pasta options fell in this price range. Anything with fish, beef, pork and even some chicken dishes were up to $45 each. Since we were going for a birthday, we were prepared to spend a little more, but it could have caused an issue if it wasn't a special occasion. We would ABSOLUTELY recommend this restaurant, but guests should expect to spend $40-50 per person at least.
I had enjoyed Nicola for business lunches but hadn't dined here at dinner in several years. Both my out-of-town colleagues and I were incredibly impressed. The menu was diverse and delightful in its variety. One of my colleagues and I had the Mahi-Mahi; outstanding. One colleague had the sausage risotto and it was so tasty she insisted that we try it. The soup that began the meal was a "clean out the kitchen of all the vegetables" soup per the waiter and he swore we'd love it. At first just one of us ordered it, but when it arrived and we had a taste, we ordered another bowl! We ended with the tiramisu --- it was unusual with a lady finger base that seemed to have chocolate in it. Our waiter was informed and clever --- we enjoyed him immensely. I intend to go back with my spouse soon!
So happy we found this little gem of a restaurant. It was quaint, with the perfect blend of authentic ambience and fabulous food. We'll definitely be back for another date night!
What a wonderful dining experience. Thank you to Esperanza, Alex, Dawn, and the other staff who provided an extraordinary time for our group last Friday. The drinks, the food, the space, the service - everything was on point. Thank you!!!!!
Experienced an outstanding dinner, exceptional service and nice atmosphere. There were 5 specials added to the menu and 3 of them were ordered at our table. Each special was very high quality ...esp the dual chop w demi glace...one of the best plates I've seen anywhere recently. highly recommend Nicolas and think its one of the best (if not the best) Italian restaurants in Columbus.
Highly recommend! We were just passing through, but if I lived around here this would be my favorite dinner spot! Excelled t, food, service, atmosphere, they checked every box!
Valentine’s Day and brought a couple who hasn’t been to Nicola. We’ve always have had a good experience but the entire meal and service poor. Limited menu and salads under dressed and thrown together, stuffed shrimp cold, pasta with pork under cooked and dry. Waitress nice but non existent. Couldn’t get drinks and even water.
I’ll try to chalk it up to over booking.
Great find! We've been there many times and have never been disappointed!
I love going to this restaurant - great Italian food - wonderful atmosphere - great fun - love it
Slow, slow service, once our food arrived my Wife and I asked for doggie bags before eating to make our next engagement. The table of 4 next to us ordered as we sat down. They drank, ate, and moved on to dessert before our salads arrived. Food was only ok after eating it later that night. Very poor experience for the price. I would not recommend.
Nicola is one of our favorite restaurants in Columbus. Usually everything is top notch. This time not so much so. The service was poor, had excessive waits for almost everything from water refills, to wine, to desert. The waiter messed up the order of coffee (I had expresso, my wife cappuccino -- he brought two lukewarm cappuccinos), wine (asked for a single glass he brought two) and the check was incorrect. The waiter kept complaining about being stretched over too many tables, not my problem. To top it off my wife had the special seafood risotto, which was almost too salty to eat. I had a decent, but overpriced veal shank. Hope they do better the next time we go there.
The food is always flavorful and delicious but this time my veal piccata was cold cold cold when served to me. I sent it back and it came back as cold a few minutes later. The service is never great but this time it was even more frustrating than usual. Too little attention. And the server didn't even remove the empty wine and cocktail glasses when he delivered the new ones. We had to ask for the table to be cleared. And we waited over 30 minutes between courses. And a note to all, the space is cold and drafty. And a little on the over lit too. Not a great ambience for romance but good for a business dinner. Hopefully, they can add some warmth into their service and the room too. The food is delicious but there is more to the over all experience that needs work.
Excellent food! Excellent service and atmosphere. Will go back soon!!!
I was pleasantly surprised all around. You know if a restaurant can make prunes taste delicious you are onto something. The ambience was moderate, but pleasantly so. The guitar music was nice, the service was good and the tiramasu was honestly the best I had ... in a really long time. To boot, I spent less than I thought I would.
Nicola and Sperenza are consummate chef and hostess.
Alex is beyond anything one could want or expect in a server/maître d
He goes above and beyond making sure your visit exceeds your expectations.
Close to how we enjoyed the cuisine and culture of Naples.
The cioppino overflows with freshness and seafood.
The specials are always a treat.
Limoncello is homemade not from bottle and it shows.
We are new to the Columbus area and this was our first visit to Nicola. Date with my daughter. The food was excellent, service was very good, and ambiance was upscale very nice. We enjoyed burrata and octopus appetizers, pappardelle Bolognese, veal marsala and scallops entrees, and gelato for dessert. Everything was delicious. We will definitely be back!
Had a guitarist, it was lovely. Service a little slow but they were busy
Great service. Great Italian food. Quiet for conversation. We can always count on a great evening dining at Nicola.
Felt it was overpriced for the quality of food.
Seafood risotto was delicious. I’m not sure if ordering the risotto was the reason it took so long for our food to come out but we waited for a while to get served. In the end,it was worth it.
We love Nicola's and take people there whenever we get the chance. The food is wonderful!
Our overall experience at Nicola was very good. Service was excellent without being overbearing and the food was well prepared and tasty. My martine was excellent and my date’s glass of wine had a nice-size pour.
The only suggestion I’d make to the restaurant would be to have servers tell patrons the prices of the specials. I hate to ask (makes me sound a little too concerned about money). But, having been burned at another restaurant by ordering a “special seafood appetizer “ for five people that I learned after the fact cost $300.00, I always ask.
Fantastic food! Best Italian food in Columbus, no contest!
Our first trip to Nicola was about as impressive as can be expected when trying a new restaurant. The food was incredible, service was very good, and the interior is very inviting. Seating is almost like a NYC restaurant where you could be very close to your neighbors, but only if the restaurant is very full. The menu is very creative and features fresh/original versions of classic Italian dishes and also offered some dishes I’d never heard of and wanted to try based on the description. I give my highest recommendation, this is a fantastic small local mid-priced Italian restaurant. I will definitely be back.
We love Nicola's and are always happy to go there!
Overall great experience. The food was excellent, the drinks were delicious and the service was friendly and prompt without rushing us at all.
Arrived for a Friday nite dinner early. Shortly there after the place became over whelmed. The staff did there best and the kitchen did slow down a bit, but the wait was well worth it. Highly recommend it for authentic Itialian, all pastas fresh made in house and one could taste the difference.
Excellent food! Homemade pasta and a wonderful cozy environment for a winter night out.
I had really high hopes for this dinner. Unfortunately Nicola disappointed. It is a nice space with a good atmosphere and we did have a delicious wine. But the food was a huge letdown. We were there on NYE and they had a special menu, which was sent out in advance via email. When we got to the restaurant the menu had been altered slightly-three out of the six entrees were different than originally stated. In my opinion, they do pasta well; however the meats with our meals were mediocre or sub par at best. The chicken with my Pollo con Melanzana was flavorless and the small slice of eggplant was good but so small it was barely there. The best part of my meal was the side of pomodoro spaghetti. A friend had a beef dish (not sure of the name) that had prosciutto and capicola rolled inside the beef. The beef had a strange taste and she was not able to eat it. Her meal came with a spaghetti type pasta and that was what she ate from her meal. The lamb my son had was under seasoned and low quality meat, obviously not fresh. My husband had the pappardelle ragu with duck - this was the best meal at the table. The food was certainly not the quality we expected for the price we paid.
Food and friends were great. Service time wasn’t the best but it was New Year’s Eve so I understand.
Set menu on New Year’s Eve
Very loud, many large parties
I can’t even begin to say how uncomfortable I was through the whole meal. It was so cold in the restaurant I didn’t enjoy it. Granted, it was very cold outside but the drapes should have been drawn in the front window. A table of women got up and moved because they were cold too.
I never write reviews! But I’ve been to Nicola’s like 5 times in the last year. And it is now my favorite Italian restaurant in Columbus. The food is consistently outstanding and very creative. And hot (that’s a pet peeve of mine). Great service. Good wine selection. Tasty specialty drinks. Try this place, you will love it.
