Nicola Restaurant and Bar Ratings and Reviews
Our overall experience at Nicola was very good. Service was excellent without being overbearing and the food was well prepared and tasty. My martine was excellent and my date’s glass of wine had a nice-size pour.
The only suggestion I’d make to the restaurant would be to have servers tell patrons the prices of the specials. I hate to ask (makes me sound a little too concerned about money). But, having been burned at another restaurant by ordering a “special seafood appetizer “ for five people that I learned after the fact cost $300.00, I always ask.
Our first trip to Nicola was about as impressive as can be expected when trying a new restaurant. The food was incredible, service was very good, and the interior is very inviting. Seating is almost like a NYC restaurant where you could be very close to your neighbors, but only if the restaurant is very full. The menu is very creative and features fresh/original versions of classic Italian dishes and also offered some dishes I’d never heard of and wanted to try based on the description. I give my highest recommendation, this is a fantastic small local mid-priced Italian restaurant. I will definitely be back.
Arrived for a Friday nite dinner early. Shortly there after the place became over whelmed. The staff did there best and the kitchen did slow down a bit, but the wait was well worth it. Highly recommend it for authentic Itialian, all pastas fresh made in house and one could taste the difference.
I had really high hopes for this dinner. Unfortunately Nicola disappointed. It is a nice space with a good atmosphere and we did have a delicious wine. But the food was a huge letdown. We were there on NYE and they had a special menu, which was sent out in advance via email. When we got to the restaurant the menu had been altered slightly-three out of the six entrees were different than originally stated. In my opinion, they do pasta well; however the meats with our meals were mediocre or sub par at best. The chicken with my Pollo con Melanzana was flavorless and the small slice of eggplant was good but so small it was barely there. The best part of my meal was the side of pomodoro spaghetti. A friend had a beef dish (not sure of the name) that had prosciutto and capicola rolled inside the beef. The beef had a strange taste and she was not able to eat it. Her meal came with a spaghetti type pasta and that was what she ate from her meal. The lamb my son had was under seasoned and low quality meat, obviously not fresh. My husband had the pappardelle ragu with duck - this was the best meal at the table. The food was certainly not the quality we expected for the price we paid.
I can’t even begin to say how uncomfortable I was through the whole meal. It was so cold in the restaurant I didn’t enjoy it. Granted, it was very cold outside but the drapes should have been drawn in the front window. A table of women got up and moved because they were cold too.
I never write reviews! But I’ve been to Nicola’s like 5 times in the last year. And it is now my favorite Italian restaurant in Columbus. The food is consistently outstanding and very creative. And hot (that’s a pet peeve of mine). Great service. Good wine selection. Tasty specialty drinks. Try this place, you will love it.
Great holiday celebration meal. The wine recommendation was spot-on; my meal was delicious. The carpaccio was some of the best I have ever had. We loved the atmosphere - really beautiful and festive. Even though the menu was limited, there was something for everyone and everyone was happy with their choices. I highly recommend this place for special occasions and could see it being a neighborhood haunt, if I lived nearby.
Very very good! We were there for Christmas Eve dinner and they had a special menu for the holiday. We will return so we can try some of the delicious sounding items on the regular menu. Our service could have been a little more knowledgeable about the wine list, however all other aspects of service were great. Thoroughly enjoyed the osso bucco was perfectly cooked and extremely tender. Calamari and special shrimp appetizers were very tasty and definitely enough to share
My wife and i met friends for dinner on Saturday night. Two of our meals were very good, but both my wife and friend ordered the stuffed pork chop special that came out very dry and tough. One had ordered medium rare and the other medium, but they both were cooked the same. Our waiter asked about why neither of them had eaten much of their meal and we told them. Unfortunately he did nothing to compensate us.
We patronize Nicola's at least 6 times a year. Eveytime I cringe when Shawn is our waiter. His service is lack luster and inattentive. It was cold by the window and it wasn't the breeze from the door, air blowing from vents. I was highly disappointed with my Caesar salad, bread crumbs on top instead of croutons or a parmesan crisp. I sent it back. (bread crumbs, really! CRUMBS) the veal and pasta were excellent. The main dish never disappoints. My drink was delayed until after my salad from the bar due to staffing. It was tasty but kept me from having two. Lost revenue. Still a great place, just an of night.
This is one of the best restaurants in Columbus, maybe even the U.S. for authentic Italian food. Also, the owners are genuine, nice people who make the extra effort to make sure their customers are happy. Would highly recommend you give Nicola's a try. You will not be sorry!!
Superb food and service in a nice atmosphere made for a splended, unhurried evening. I enjoyed an appetizer of octopus over white beans dressed in olive oil with maybe a hint of rosemary. The gorganzola salad that followed had a balsamic vinaigrette and just the right amount of cheese. For the main course I had Cioppino that was loaded with shell fish and grouper in a very well seasoned tomato broth. I was too full for dessert!
We've been going to Nicola's for quite some time and have always been more than happy with the experience. More recently chef Nicola has been adding two specials to the menu; they are special in all sense of the word: excellent choices (this time ossobuco with risotto and branzino (sea bass) with sides. Delizioso!
Servers were young and not very experienced but they tried their best. Surprise menu for Thanksgiving which I kept trying to see prior to the reservation with no luck. I would have canceled if I knew. One guest ordered the fish which was both under cooked and rubbery obviously frozen
Thanksgiving dinner. Selected specifically because it was Italian to remind us of the time we were in Florence for the holiday in the past. Limited menu. Not what was expected. Nothing vegetarian other than veggie sides. Ordered potato and a cauliflower/brocoli gratin. Tiny plate (1/4 cup of each). $12. Ridiculous.
The restaurant was clean, too dark for my liking. The greeter was friendly and pleasant, our reservation was recognized and we were seated quickly. The staff was cordial, our server wasn't as familiar with the menu as he should've been. The menu was harder to understand than it should be along with our server's lack of explaining all the meal options was not favorable. The food was very good, the service was very good, the meal portions were very good. The restrooms were clean and accessible. They apparently grow their own spices beside the building, I thought this was great.
Had a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner there. We had our reservations, it was festive inside and everyone was attentive to every need. Restaurant was clean and very comfortable to sit and enjoy a couple hours. Wine list was fabulous. We will definitely be back.
