The food was delicious, the servers attentive, and the atmosphere festive (and busy!), even for a Monday night. We had a large group for a special occasion and were treated to a few desserts to share for the table, which was an unexpected but welcome bonus.

Tasty Italian food, more upscale quality. Pasta is fresh as are all the ingredients. Enjoyed the fresh mozzarella, prosciutto, and parmesan. Perfect bread and oil to start.

As so many people have already stated, the guant meatball and fresh spaghetti rock! Out party od 3 had 2 of those and the other had the cioppino which was a fabulos pot of lobster, scallops, shrinp and tender calimari in a delicious broth over fresh fettucini. Just great. We also staryed with a delicious buratta and proscuito salas. SO good.
Our waiter, who was from Morrocco, was attentive but not intrusive. He gave ezcellent suggestions on both wine and food.
It was a great evening. The only reason it is an overall 4 is that we were seated 20 min after our reservation and that was hard for us. We had someone with us who is not able to stand for long and there was really not a good place to wait without standing and getting bumped by the busy waiters. I was glad that we were seated downstairs.

Food was great, great atmosphere. My only knock was we felt a little rushed; our plates were cleared and the check was deposited on the table. No offer of dessert. Several members of the wait staff kept checking on us from across the room to see if we were leaving, like they were desperate for the table. I’d still go back, though.

Tight, but typical for North End restaurants. Great service (Bruno), and I thought it was a good value. Large portions of delicious foods.

Authentic Italian food and service. Fantastic meatballs. Downstairs is more quiet than upstairs. Can’t wait to go back again.

We consider ourselves foodies and we both enjoyed our meals at Nico! The waiter was fantastic and knowledgeable with both food selection and wine! Will definitely go back. Did seem to get busy so our early reservation was perfect (6pm)

The food and our server were great but we had a 7:30pm reservation, got there at 7:15, and still had to wait until after 8pm to get seated. An explaination as to why they were running so behind on our reservation would’ve been great but nothing was said other than “we are running 30 minutes behind.” Once we were seated we had a great meal but my experience was definitely tainted by the wait.

The food is very good and the waiter provided great service, maybe a little too fast. We had 7:30 reservations and were not seated until 8:15, waiting with a lot of other disgruntled diners in very tight quarters. I don't think I will be returning.

Oh, the meatballs... they are just so good with sauce and ricotta on the side. The fresh pasta is amazing. The place is tiny and always jam packed, and even with a reservation you will probably have to wait. The wait can be uncomfortable because the place is so small that there is really nowhere to wait (except outside which is fine when the weather cooperates!).

My wife and I ate at Nico with a friend on a recent Friday night at 7 PM. As others have frequently mentioned in reviews...the food was very good, authentic Italian (which you should expect in the North End), the portions are large, the service is excellent, the space is small and it was indeed very noisy (vibrant, some might say), to the point that it was impossible to have an intimate conversation. Would I return? Absolutely, although I might opt for an earlier or later reservation on a weekday rather than hitting it at a peak time on a weekend night, as it was a bit chaotic, in the main dining room and the foyer/bar area. Ask for Hakim as your server...he was great. Ciao!

Consistently good with a variety of menu items. Service is always good. It's a bustling small restaurant, not a quiet romantic dinner but there is something about the atmosphere that just works. Two floors, with bar and dining side by side on first floor and a small dinner area in the basement. Food is delicious, menu interesting, great place to meet friends or family.

First, I wish I remembered our server's name because he was top-notch. Space is tight. From our experience, you will definitely need a reservation (at least on weekends). We had a 5 pm reservation on a Saturday to eat an early dinner before heading to a Bruins game. We got there about 10-15 minutes early. A couple in front of us asked the hostess what the wait time for 2 people was - 2 hours. So, plan ahead if you can. Overall, the service was great. The servers all seemed to be helping each other out (for instance, a server for another table saw my wine glass empty and promptly collected it from our table). They offer a very nice wine selection. I need Gluten Free and Dairy Free, and our server had great suggestions. I ordered a special with steamed/boiled calamari, scallops, shrimp, mussels, clams, and 1/2 lobster over GF pasta in a white wine & garlic sauce. It was phenomenal! My husband (no food restrictions) ordered the Polpetta di Mamma Rosetta (a large meatball; an appetizer) and La Romana Caesar Salad and enjoyed both very much. We're from out of town, but would certainly go back on another Boston trip.

The food was delicious. The atmosphere was hectic and the hosting staff seemed harried. In their defense it was a Saturday night of a busy Holiday weekend. However, we did have a reservation that they were unable to honor. We luckily were able to score three seats at the bar and eat there. Bar staff super friendly. May be a better experience during the week.

This was our second visit to Nico for dinner, it has quickly become one of our favorites in all of Boston. We had the Caprese app, which was delicious. My boyfriend had the Fettuccine Alfredo Con Pollo, he said it was excellent. I had the pumpkin & butternut squash ravioli, which was one of the specials...WOW!!! It was one of the best Italian dishes I’ve ever had! I wish it was something they could offer on the everyday menu. We had the same dessert as the last time, the puff pastry with chocolate. Again, it’s one of our favorite desserts. We agreed that next time we’ll order two instead of sharing one! Our server was charming & witty, as well as very attentive. We love Nico & will go back again soon!

The place is small but very nice. Noise level wasn’t to bad for a Saturday night. Service was great and we loved the North end. As an appetizer we had the meatball which was pretty good. My husband had the lamb and said it was delicious. I had the pollo primavera. It fell short. Nothing special about the dish at all. Mashed potatoes were plain. The sauce on the primivera was “meh”. Vegetables were not cooked thoroughy and I felt the chicken was almost to dry. I didn’t care for my selection. Had better at other places.

Food was excellent! Reservation recommended. Service was good and we sat downstairs which was a little tight. There wasn't a ton of room and we were practically in our neighbor's conversation. Still, the food was excellent and I would recommend to anyone looking for dinner in the North End.

Having searched reviews diligently for a good North End Italian restaurant, I was looking forward to our dinner at Nico. I regret to report the experience was a disappointment. Two of us arrived in time for our 6:30 reservation, but were told we could not be seated until the other guests had arrived. They did arrive 4 minutes later, but by then the hostess had moved on and we were not seated until a few minutes after 7- over 30 minutes late! She was not the least apologetic and seemed to believe we should expect to wait in line for the privilege of dining at Nico.

The food was mediocre at best- arancini were under cooked, fried calamari and pasta with sausage were OK but nothing special. At the waiter's recommendation, I ordered veal saltimbocca which was horrendous! A very small amount of meat hidden under a huge slab of cheese that wasn't fully melted so I could see its square outline, all drowning in a nondescript brown gooey gravy with no hint of the requisite (and promised) sage. Mashed potatoes accompanied, also drowned in the gravy and merged with the meat and cheese. From somewhere amid the mess i excavated 2 asparagus spears not even visible when the plate came to the table. I was aghast.

One positive- the wait staff were friendly and efficient and made us feel comfortable.

So I must continue my search for a classic Italian restaurant with a welcoming atmosphere and appealing food. We will not be returning here.
