Nico Ratings and Reviews
Had a 6:30 reservation on Open Table. Promptly seated although we did wait a few minutes for an upstairs table. Bruno our server was great. We started with eggplant appetizer. It was very good and plenty to share. My wife had the chicken primavera. It was good but a little under seasoned. But much better as leftovers for lunch! I had the fish special. Red snapper over parmigian risotto with steamed littlenecks (7!). It was excellent. You should be aware that they only have beer, wine, and cordials.
We celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary at NICO on. Sunday evening. The tables are pretty close to each other in such a small area but didn't make you feel closed in. If you can, request a table on the main level, not the lower level as there is absolutely no ambiance down there. We had a lovely table for two on the main floor and had one of the best waiters ever named Alex who took care of us for our special occasion. We had the giant meatball with ricotta cheese for an appetizer and it was delicious. I had the homemade gnocchi in marinara sauce which was very good (not sure about the homemade part as they were too uniform in size). My husband had the special which was a stuffed veal chop - excellent and perfectly cooked. Dessert was tiramisu and a chocolate layered hazelnut cake, both served in glass cups that were the perfect size after a filling meal. Both desserts were very good too. Overall, great eating experience.
Our daughter's boyfriend had never been to Boston, so dinner in the North End was an important part of our sightseeing day. The service was quick, attentive, the menu extensive, an affordable fine wine list, and food that was delicious and abundant. We'll be back!
We booked Nico again because we love the food and are always able to get in within about 5 minutes of our reservation time. Which is rare within the Little Italy North End area. Being at the end of street makes for a great stroll through town past Mikes Pastry. Our waiter was efficient, professional and well rehearsed on all the food. Would book again and again
Nico is now our favorite North End restaurant. The service was great - our server was friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. Even the young man who brought the bread and cleared the table did an amazing job! Our food was served hot. The rigatoni dish was hearty and the linguini with pancetta was just right. We did save room to share a profiterole and espressos. The best Italian food we've had!! Will be back!
Our knowledgeable, friendly waiter was able to guide me though gluten free, dairy free options that provided an absolutely mouthwatering meal. It was hands down our favorite meal on our trip to Boston! It is a small, quaint place with close tables so somewhat noisy, but the delicious food more than makes up for the noise level. Definitely would go back.
Nico's is one of our all time favorites in the North End. Food and Service is always wonderful. We had the meatball appetizer for first time this time and was amazing along with our red fish entree. We did have to wait about 30 mins past our reservation but got a table by the window so was worth the wait.
Holy Cow this place was awesome. I was a bit dissapointed initially they did not have a full liquor license and we did have a bit of a wait for our reservation but the food, service and atmosphere was awesome! I had the pasta and clams and it was just so good. Wife had lobster ravioli and my son one of the biggest, tastiest meatballs ever. All the while the John Gotti movie is playing in the background. Great service and a reasonable wine list.
Will definitely be back on my next trip to Boston.
We have been here several times before as our go to spot when in Boston. There are many other establishments around, but we like Nico's as we know what the experience is like as well as the quality of the food and service. They will go out of there way to put together any combination a meal within reason. Thank you Nico's.
Nico was disappointing. The food was good but the portions were ridiculously large and it came out so fast we felt rushed. We had a bottle of wine and two courses, but were there for less than an hour. We were also seated at the worst table, in the middle of a very cramped and noisy dining room, despite having made the reservation almost two months in advance. Our server was great, but we felt like they just wanted to turn our table over as soon as possible. If you don't mind being cramped, are in a massive rush or only have time for a quick (and large) bite, this is the place for you. But don't expect to take your time and savor your meal at Nico. We were really looking forward to a great Italian meal, and by-passed many other Italian restaurants in the North End. The website was misleading; it made Nico look large, elegant and inviting. It was none of these things. We will not return.
Nico was really lovely. We sat at a window seat that looked over beautiful blooming trees on the sidewalk. The ground floor is actually "upstairs" as there is dining space in the lower level that admittedly has little to no atmosphere. We had an amzing waiter named James who was helpful and attentive. The food was amazing. We both ordered one of the specials, a red snapper over risotto that was absolutely delicious (both for dinner and left over for lunch the next day) in addition to an appetizer with heirloom tomatoes, burrrata and artichokes that was equally perfect. Would highly recommend!
The food and the service were exceptional. However when we researched the restaurant we felt the atmosphere was not properly described. It's extremely small both upstairs and downstairs. Very noisy. Tables crammed in. We went to celebrTe a special occasion and though it was a quite, romantic spot. Our table was exactly 2'x2' so slam that when I opened my menu it knocked over the wTer glasses. There was not even enough room between the tables for the waiter to take our order at our table he had to take our order over the railing of the stairs he was standing on that led to the downstairs dining room . Both dining room upstairs and down our exceptionally small, there Is also only one bathroom for men and women , not separate bathrooms just one and only one person at a time Causing a line into the dining room. I was number 6 in line. We had a great meal, but chose to have dessert elsewhere, where you can have a conversation without everyone in the room being a part of it. I was very disappoint. We would order take out if available otherwise even though the food was excellent , we had a very bad dining experience.
