The food here was so good. The scallop appetizer was the best I have had. The scallops were huge. Wish I had taken a picture. Can't wait to go back.
Great evening. Very energetic staff, excellent service and great recommendations from our waiter. The food was outstanding for all 6 of us.
Nico's was absolutely fantastic. Everything about our dinner was spot on. Hakeem was a truly remarkable server. He even went outside and rangled in a Santa Claus to visit our table. The food was wonderful, especially the veal Parmesan, chicken parm, and their meatballs are the best I've ever had. You have to get a meatball appetizer if nothing else, but don't feel weird about ordering their spaghetti and meatball dish- it's so worth it.
Excellent wait staff, very friendly and attentive. Food was very good and went home with leftovers. Large portions. Waited a bit even with a reservation but sat at bar so not a problem. Will go again.
Came here for date, stayed for food. Both were excellente!
Had a great time. Friendly and attentive service, very good food and wine selection. Price is as to be expected around that area. Would and most likely will be going back.
Food was delicious and the service was outstanding
I had a wonderful dinner here with my boyfriend. The atmosphere was great and the food blew us away. It was delicious. I have never had a rice ball as good as the one I had here. This is a small and cute spot in the heart of the North End. If you're looking for authentic Italian food, go here!
The hostess told us she'd be late on our reservation by 5-10 minutes. We waited outside on the sidewalk before a comedy show we had planned to see for 55 minutes until seated. I know these things happen and it's not necessarily their fault, but almost an hour is really inconvenience. Our guests from out of town seemed a bit stressed. Nico's hostess could have told us to go somewhere else and we wouldn't have had to rush for our show. That said, food was great. They covered our round of drinks.
I can sum it up in a few words. When in Boston and dining in the North End you must go to either Nico or Strega. To my family and friends they are the best. This night we were at Nico. The place is charming with the typical North End feel, but the food and service were outstanding. Two menu items were chosen with two of the specials and they were wonderful. I can probably eat the entire menu if I lived in Boston. We dine out often. You will not be disappointed. They are the Best resturants in North End.
This place does not disappoint. We make a point to come here whenever we are in Boston. The wait staff goes above and beyond to make you feel like family. Our last visit we even got complimentary dessert as a "happy holidays"! Cocktails are not watered down and wine list is adequate. Food is superb. The pasta with shrimp and scallops with black truffle cream sauce is AMAZING! This beats any little italy place in NYC hands down! Keep up the good work!
I try to eat at a different North End restaurant each time I visit Boston (every 4-5 weeks). Nico's would definitely fall into the bottom half or places I've tried. I tried the cioppino special and was surprised to see a half lobster in the bowl. Unfortunately the lobster was way overcooked, tough and stringy. If you can't prepare a decent lobster in Boston you have no business operating a restaurant. I was very disappointed and would not recommend Nico's as a dining option.
We had a very good dinner at Nicos. The eggplant appetizer was very good. the meatball was amazing! the drinks were okay not a great cocktail place but we had a great bottle of wine. Our server was also very good and friendly. It was busy and noisy but he always made time for us. I would recommend.
The meatball appetizer was an 11......Veal Parm was fantastic, practically fell apart is was so tender.
The downstairs dining room is very cramped and loud as should be expected in the North End.
Wait staff and bartender all very friendly. I will recommend Nico to any and all who visit the North End.
It's the North End, so finding an Italian restaurant involves little more than closing your eyes and walking in any direction until you hit a door. So, will your "discovery" be good? It can seem risky. Nico is a small (cramped) place, and our group of seven sat in tight quarters down steep stairs. But the service was great, the food was very good to excellent and we had a fine time. The pasta is delicious -- forget the toppings for a minute, I'm talking about fresh, perfectly cooked pasta. I had an excellent shrimp and scallop dish in a truffle cream sauce over rigatoni for my main, it was wonderful. Everything I tasted from our group was equally delicious. The wine list has a good variety and many price points, prices are fair.
Kudos for honoring a request for window seating on a Saturday night. No wait for reservation, four satisfied diners, appetizers of calamari and prosciutto were very good, two excellent pasta dishes, two meat dishes, good-sized portions. Dessert was good, not fabulous, probably the weakest link. Service was consistent and pleasant.
We wanted Italian food and chose this place from various reviews. Underwhelming and uncomfortable surroundings, rushed service (we were out within the hour), and the most unappetising looking plate of food that I have had in a long time…..
I've been here before and had a wonderful time so I decided to return with my boyfriend. Disclaimer we are both college age but we were dressed up for the occasion. While the food is impeccable we were treated like second class citizens due to our age. The groups next to us got attention and recommendations meanwhile we didn't even get read the special. We wanted a special night together and it was kind of dampened by the service disparity between us and all around us.
Went for my boyfriends birthday, used Trip Advisor for assistance as we live in Maine. He's still talking about his veal chops. The food was amazing, along with a beautiful presentation. Had the calamari for an app and the arugula salad with roasted pears. We can't wait to go back, wish we lived closer. Our waiter was sweet and helpful and I had emailed about his birthday and they brought us a taramisu to share. Thank you for making our special night a wonderful memory. Stephanie
Always perfect at Nico's! Thank you for a wonderful dining experience!
Chicken Marsala was dry and over cooked, while the carrots on the side were almost raw. However the mashed potatoes were delicious.
Each time I come to Boston, Nico is always on the list for a dinner stop. The staples in the menu cover a wide variety of Italian dishes and the daily specials make it tough to stay with a classic dish or the chefs creation for that particular day.
The wine list is wide and varied. The standard Italian choices are represented as well as some other regions which will pair nicely with whatever you choose.
Overall you can't go wrong with this spot, put it on your list of Italian eateries in the North End to stop in for dinner.
Food was terrific. My husband had sea bass with grilled veggies and I had seafood fra diavolo. The sauce for the fra diavolo was full of the flavor of the sea and perfectly seasoned. It was a birthday dinner and special indeed.
Good choice for a Sun. Night 20th Bday. 4 of us enjoyed antipasto, arancini,&Ceasar Salad. Entrees of Veal Parm.,Chx Parm.,& Chx with artichokes were all delicious. Portions were decent & pasta done perfectly. Waiter had a nice accent & was attentive. Can't wait to return!
Excellent food and service. Will definately go back again
Very nice experience. Wine markup a bit high.
Absolutely delicious. The arancini appetizer was very good. Fettuccine carbonara was amazing best I have ever had! Tip: they only serve beer, wine and cordials but offer a good selection.
Try to sit upstairs.
Love it......can't wait to go back! Food is incredibly delish
Amazing find, this authentic Italian gem had great wine and delicious food. Also very affordable! Will definitely go back the next time we're in Boston.
The food was traditional Italian cuisine. It was similar to my mothers's cooking, southern Italy, province of Benivento. I had the Risotto with Scallops and my wife had Veal, although I would not call either dish gourmet both were scrumptious. We shared a excellent glass of red wine.
Delightful experience..., not much room, but quaint
North end spot delivered great food and amazing service!!! Can't wait to go back!!
Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone! One of the best Italian rest I've ever eaten in and that includes Italy. Capresse salad is the best. Great veal marsala! You won't regret eating here.
I found the service to be wonderful at Nico. The staff were knowledgeable, personable and professional. It made for a great experience. The specialty drinks were amazing. Definitely crafted by a pro. The food left a little to be desired, but it wasn't bad by any means. I will definitely be back.
Also, I came with a large group and they were incredibly accommodating.
The wine list is very nice. Gnocchi was delicious. Portions plentiful. Would go back. Definitely sit upstairs if you can. My only negative to hot since it was 60 outside.
Nico's more than lived up to my expectations, which were high based on the reviews I had read. I asked for and got a table upstairs, right by the window, which was great. The waiter was friendly and attentive, without being obtrusive. The mushroom ravioli was amazing, as were the other dishes we had. The portions are large, and unfortunately we were too full for dessert. We liked the place so much, we are going back with an out-of-town guest barely a week after we were there the first time!
The restaurant seated us right away. Tables are a bit tight, but that is to be expected in the North End. Appetizers and dinner entrees were very good. Service was excellent.
Sure, it's small, but that's part of the ambiance. Servers all seemed Italian, which lent an air of authenticity. The service was stellar and attentive, food was delicious and plentiful. I did recommend to some friends in from out of town (as am I). I would definitely return!
A memorable evening at Nico's. Great ambiance, delightful staff, terrific food. And five fellows showed up and sang beautifully in Italian for about 20 minutes! This was a good as going to Naples without the jet-lag!
A special evening. We will be back.
The food was the best I've had in a long while. Everything was good and came out in a timely manner.
Came for dinner on a busy Saturday night and couldn't have imagined a better dinner out. The food tasted like it was made immediately after we ordered - SO fresh and delicious. Service was fast and staff was very friendly. Definitely coming back!
