Nick's Riverside Grill Ratings and Reviews
We ate here for Valentine's Day. We were surprised at how empty it was that evening, but it worked great for us since we tend to not like crowds/noise. The restaurant was calm, had great ambiance, was perfect for conversation, and had awesome music playing. I had the crab cake sandwich, which was okay (had great fries), and my boyfriend got the carne asada, which was delicious and very colorful. Great wine & beer menu. I'm sure it's livelier on other nights, but we enjoyed our quiet valentine's date!
We looked at the reviews for this on Open Table and they looked really good. The location has the appeal but the restaurant is riding on that and it feels as if they’ve not put any effort into the food here because they have a captive audience. Food was food chain type fare. Really unimpressive and basic.
Sat outside on a busy Saturday--my expectations for service were pretty low given it was crowded. However, service was generally MIA from the beginning of our visit. Food was pretty mediocre and really no effort to check in on us during the meal, refill waters etc. Good place to hang out and drink, but I would avoid the food.
Service was expected to be much better - food orders were completely messed up and one of my family members didn't even get to eat her meal at all. There was an issue with the seating - we were a group of 5 squeezed at a table meant for 4 - not as comfortable as it could have been.
Great service! We had reserved an inside table, but they graciously moved us to an unreservable outside table, and added space for four unexpected friends to join us. The crab cakes were wonderful. And, of course, the view is amazing. The interior was VERY loud when we ended up inside due to rain. Not a place for a quiet dinner.
We had a friend from Buffalo in town just for the evening. We came here for the riverside view which includes the Kennedy Center. But I was pleasantly surprised by how good the service was (before checking in the person in front me was given the hostess an earful about the poor service his group had received) as well as how tasty the food was. Lots of wine and beer selections though it is strange that some of the beers can only be ordered inside. (Nick, you should fix that!) All in all, we had a good time catching up while enjoying the food and view.
Maybe a bad day for a carne asada. The meat was tender, but probably marinated for 5 mins before it was cooked. The rice was cooked well enough but the flavor was like a washed out rice-o-roni. I wouldn't order it again. Service was good and we were seated promptly. Maybe just a place to get drinks for me in the future.
Food and view are very good. Waitress & waiters could use some training in customer service. They were not rude, but we were there for a while talking and visiting with a friend who was from out of town. After they picked up our dishes from eating NO one came by to see if we would like anything else or if ask if we needed anything during the time we were sitting there. We would have probably ordered more drinks from the bar if someone would have paid attention to us.
This is a great bar atmosphere. There were lots of young twenty and thirty something people. It was very lively and loud.
But because my husband and I were looking for waterfront seafood dining, this was not what we expected. It was more of a bar atmosphere than restaurant. We sat inside and could hardly hear each other talk. The low ceilings were problematic for noise.
If you go here, I suggest outdoor dining for the view and it is quieter.
We were seated immediately. We were given the option of sitting inside or outside, but it was a hot, windy day so we chose inside. Service was attentive, but not outstanding. We had to grab silverware and napkins from another table, and when we dropped a fork we grabbed another one! Our server was very helpful finding us things that we liked. There was one minor mixup with the side for our kids meal. The food was good, but very expensive. You are paying for location! Compared to Farmers, Fishers and Bakers, Nick's is more casual with better service and management. Similar prices.
Work was being done in the area (barriers were raised) which required us to take a detour in order to get to the restaurant. Wish we were given a heads up so we could have take a different route. Service was extremely slow and the restaurant wasn't at full capacity.
We had reservations for 6:30. Although there was plenty of seating available, the hostess seated us by the noisy bar. We spent the entire meal with very loud obnoxious bar patrons standing 1 foot from out table, talking loud and laughing loud the entire time. The food was good and the waiter was great. Unfortunately it was completely ruined by the noisy obnoxious bar patrons.
