Nick's Fishmarket Maui Ratings and Reviews
Absolutely! Thee best place ever! To come and celebrate birthdays with ypur family or just the two of you.. I came here for my son's birthday in January and they were a winner that I had to come back for my Birthday.. thank you Nicks Team! Excellent service, food, quality your food was so delicious ❤
BUYER BEWARE. My husband and I dined here and had a relatively nice experience. After we left, we looked more closely at our bill and saw we were charged fir a gin drink we did not order. I called the restaurant the next morning and explained the situation and asked that they call us. No call. My husband said not to worry but fir me it’s the principle. Lack of integrity. So if you go, pay close attention to your bill. You just may be buying the next tables $14+ cocktails.
Nick’s is one of our favorite places to dine, however, our last experience for our Valentines dinner was very disappointing.
When we first arrived and checked in, they took patrons who arrived after us and seated them, then they sat us at the very first table at the entrance where we endured incoming patrons checking in. We heard the hostess tell patrons that they are booked and hold their credit cards so obviously why would they not show up? It was a little upsetting to hear that and we were actually treated in that manner because we already gave our credit card for our dinner, the service was bad. Also my entree was so spicy that it was hard to complete and enjoy. It seemed like they didn’t care about servicing their tables and patrons because it was a set menu and it was already covered by our credit card for payment.
We usually always try to go to Nick’s once a year and it was one of our favorite places to dine but we have never experienced it so bad. I would also think that you would want to treat residents with better service too because you could get repeat returns and also we tell so much others of our dining experience.
We dine at a lot of fine dining places and now we are not sure if we would put Nick’s as one of our favorite places to dine. I think even if you were overwhelmed because of a special occasion dining that you still would have treated your patrons better.
Simply fantastic service from everybody. Very attentive the whole evening. Best service in all Maui. Great wine list and perfect food. We will go back again and again - they have worked hard to make it a gem - one that stands out from all the others in the area. Great work - thank you.
In an experience resort, Nick’s promised great food and failed to deliver. The servers tag teamed us to move us along and not relax and talk. The Caesar salad was average (but not in price), and the bouillabaisse had three small clams, three prawns, a small “lobster” tail, and little else besides heavy pasta, a huge piece of bread, and a very salty tomato base. We skipped desert. The coffee was fair.
“Good. Get out.”. Actual words spoken to us at a dinner gone wrong. Not sure how it all went wrong- but the waiter who spoke those words was responsible. Something was wrong with a partially consumed mai tai - which was replaced.
But the waiter obviously thought that was our major concern. It was his lack of concern over our entire meal. There was never a question asked about the appetizers- which were fine or the entrees until more the 75% was consumed.
Do you ask hows everything when the meal is almost consumed?
We had wanted a glass of wine with dinner, handed a menu - and no one returned to take our order until our meal was completed. Is that the time you grab the wine order ?
What’s sad is that everyone in the support staff was excellent. When our waiter finally returned- we expressed our concerns. He didn’t like what he heard - and when we requested the check he felt it had something to do with the mai Tai’s. When he learned it was about his lack of service he said “ fine - get out”.
The check was brought to us by another server - who said the manager took the mai Tai’s off our bill. This had nothing to do with mai Tai’s - but with the complete incompetence of the head waiter who was rude and disrespectful for whatever reason.
Maybe there were other issues at play - who knows. Great hotel - but their dinning options need to really be examined.
My husband and I went for our last nite in Maui. The service was exceptional from beginning to end. I think we had a total of 4 waiters from the moment we sat down. Someone pulling out my chair, placing my napkin, taking away sliverware and replacing etc. yet they were not overly imposing. I had the Macadamia crusted Mahi with lemongrass jasmine rice and coconut lime vinaigrette. It was melt in your mouth delicious! My husband had his Mahi prepared with lemon butter and capers and sweet potato mascarpone ravioli. His also was very good. We had the apple pie for dessert. Everything was excellent and we will be back again next year!
We have dined twice at this restaurant while on vacation in Maui in the past 2 years. The atmosphere and food are good. My issue is with their service-by-committee model. It just doesn't work. Everything took much longer that it needed to. Time to first cocktail, time to order, time to get food cleared, time to desert menu, time to pay....all delayed from my perspective. I would not recommend this restaurant based on the service we have received at many of the other fine-dining experiences available in Wailea.
We were on a family vacation with a toddler and infant in tow, and Nick’s offered an amazing and accommodating dining experience. While not necessarily the place you think to dine with children, Nick’s offered the complete package to make our two year old happy while also satisfying our adult need for a high quality meal. We dined here nearly five years ago and it’s great to see that Nick’s still has service and food that surpass most other establishments. We will be sure to return each time we are in town, as it’s always a worthwhile experience.
"Team service" means no one really responsible for you. Sat with empty drink glass for a LONG time. Went for Happy Hour menu and was not indicated only for bar area. A petty distinction but went based on those items as a non fish lover in party. Service was not of the caliber one expects from a restaurant at this price point.
We have been to Nicks many times. Apparently they have changed chefs as the food wasn't close to their normal excellence. Caesar salad was terrible as they added chard, soybeans and other junk that doesn't belong in a Caesar. Fish was overdone. My wife had chicken and sausage and the sausage was inedible. Very disappointed as it is one of our favorite restaurants on Maui.
Receptionist was lovely and she seated us at a beautiful outside table for 7. Many thanks for accommodating my request. Food was good- Maui prices but very tasty. Our only complaints are that we had at least 4 servers and we really never knew who our servers were. Everyone was very attentive, however, and the bread was refilled continually- thanks for that too. Entrées were very slow to arrive- hence the need for the bread! But overall, a solid B+. We used to dine there a lot when our children were younger and were happy to return with young adults.
We have been coming to Nick's for years as we have been coming to Maui for 12 days over the Christmas holiday season for 26 years. For many of our earlier years there, we found it to be among the best restaurants on the island. The service has remained outstanding, the venue as always is lovely, and the choices on the menu look wonderful; the prices remain very high (the ahi entree, for example, is $53). However, what is most disappointing is that the food itself has become more variable and our meal there in early January 2018 has made us rethink whether we want to return. The ahi and mahi mahi entrees that two of our party ordered were still outstanding; at the prices Nick's charges, they should be.
All four of us ordered the chopped salad; years ago, this was almost the high point of the meal. However, the recipe was changed around ten years ago, making it less flavorful and the size was cut nearly in half. This last time, the salad had almost no flavor at all, a disappointment.
Two in our party chose to order two appetizers each as opposed to one main meal. We both ordered the seafood chowder and we both found it tasteless. My husband also ordered the calamari fritte, but ate only half of it as it consisted more of bland breading than of calamari. I ordered the Kalua Pig Pot Stickers. Four of them arrived on the plate and I didn't eat even one whole pot sticker. I loved smoked meats and the pork in the pot sticker was clearly smoked but the smokiness was so strong (or maybe there was also some other flavor in there that I cannot identify) that I couldn't eat more than a couple of mouthfuls of it. Another is our party tasted one and agreed that he woudn't want to eat more of it.
This is still a lovely romantic venue with great service, but we were not impressed that, out of six menu items ordered, only two (the two fish entrees) were really good.
