Nick's Fishmarket Maui Ratings and Reviews
"Team service" means no one really responsible for you. Sat with empty drink glass for a LONG time. Went for Happy Hour menu and was not indicated only for bar area. A petty distinction but went based on those items as a non fish lover in party. Service was not of the caliber one expects from a restaurant at this price point.
We have been to Nicks many times. Apparently they have changed chefs as the food wasn't close to their normal excellence. Caesar salad was terrible as they added chard, soybeans and other junk that doesn't belong in a Caesar. Fish was overdone. My wife had chicken and sausage and the sausage was inedible. Very disappointed as it is one of our favorite restaurants on Maui.
Receptionist was lovely and she seated us at a beautiful outside table for 7. Many thanks for accommodating my request. Food was good- Maui prices but very tasty. Our only complaints are that we had at least 4 servers and we really never knew who our servers were. Everyone was very attentive, however, and the bread was refilled continually- thanks for that too. Entrées were very slow to arrive- hence the need for the bread! But overall, a solid B+. We used to dine there a lot when our children were younger and were happy to return with young adults.
We have been coming to Nick's for years as we have been coming to Maui for 12 days over the Christmas holiday season for 26 years. For many of our earlier years there, we found it to be among the best restaurants on the island. The service has remained outstanding, the venue as always is lovely, and the choices on the menu look wonderful; the prices remain very high (the ahi entree, for example, is $53). However, what is most disappointing is that the food itself has become more variable and our meal there in early January 2018 has made us rethink whether we want to return. The ahi and mahi mahi entrees that two of our party ordered were still outstanding; at the prices Nick's charges, they should be.
All four of us ordered the chopped salad; years ago, this was almost the high point of the meal. However, the recipe was changed around ten years ago, making it less flavorful and the size was cut nearly in half. This last time, the salad had almost no flavor at all, a disappointment.
Two in our party chose to order two appetizers each as opposed to one main meal. We both ordered the seafood chowder and we both found it tasteless. My husband also ordered the calamari fritte, but ate only half of it as it consisted more of bland breading than of calamari. I ordered the Kalua Pig Pot Stickers. Four of them arrived on the plate and I didn't eat even one whole pot sticker. I loved smoked meats and the pork in the pot sticker was clearly smoked but the smokiness was so strong (or maybe there was also some other flavor in there that I cannot identify) that I couldn't eat more than a couple of mouthfuls of it. Another is our party tasted one and agreed that he woudn't want to eat more of it.
This is still a lovely romantic venue with great service, but we were not impressed that, out of six menu items ordered, only two (the two fish entrees) were really good.
Service was terrible. Cocktails and wine list were on an iPad—only one iPad for 3 people to share. Difficult to navigate . Two different waiters came and told us they’d be taking care of us and then we didn’t see them again after they brought our drinks. Finally, I think it was a manager that came and took our order, but never apologized or explained the very long wait. Not all the tables were full so they weren’t slammed. Had to flag someone down to order a second glass of wine to have with dinner.
Food was mediocre at best. Menu was unimpressive with fewer fish options than one would expect for a place called Nick’s Fishmarket. Everywhere else we ate in Wailea was superb. This was a major disappointment and overpriced.
Food excellent as always. Service has taken a nosedive since 2015. I never knew who my head server really was and food took forever to come out. (Twice during our 8 day stay)
Drinks fantastic as well so if you don’t mind subpar service, the fish and cocktails are outstanding. Hard to recommend though with the service being so poor. Not sure what happened as the Fairmont is an awesome place to vacation in Maui. Hopefully better next time.
Beau our waiter made our evening so special! We celebrated sons engagement. We were a party of 6, and beau and his co workers were amazing. Did not like first table we were given and they happily moved us! An incredible experience not to me mention fabulous food
Had to wait an extended amount of time just to get menus (10 min after seating). Appetizers came out fine but dinner was very late (server apologized multiple times). Once dinner came out one of our meals was cold (clearing sitting for 10 min or more). Food was tasty but service not acceptable for this type of restaurant.
Let me just say this: Do yourself a favor and pass on this restaurant if you are hungry for good, beautiful, and satisfying food - head to one of the better restaurants on the island instead. This hotel-based restaurant (which is not highlighted in the billing for it) was hugely disappointing - and a very expensive mistake. We had reservations. Despite the nearly empty restaurant (which should have been our first clue) - we were seated in a banquette near the noisy bar - facing the cash register. Really? This is how you treat your dining guests? Then, the extremely limited and extremely expensive menu was unsatisfying. We are used to paying for a good meal - but this was neither a good meal nor worth paying for. There are many fine restaurants in Poipu and on the island - this is not one of them. Head elsewhere!
This was our first time dining here, and it was weird. The restaurant was less than half full but we waited 20 minutes s to be seated when we showed up on time for our reservation. Service started out well, although with an inexperienced waiter, then descended into lackadaisical at best. We ordered the snapper, which was ok although swimming in sauce, and the fillet mignon, medium. It arrived medium rare to rare. Then everyone disappeared. We had to ask the hostess twice for our bill. We could have easily just walked out and no one would have noticed, or apparently even cared. Super disappointing.
