At Nicks Cove Restaurant and Oyster Bar in Marshall every table has a stellar view of Tomales Bay and Hog and Duck Islands. The hunting lodge feel with wood burning fireplace, mahogany bar and game trophies creates nostalgic charm for the guests of Nicks Cove. The restaurant is open daily for lunch and dinner.
Located a decent distance out of town, guests will find that civilization seems to have disappeared while enjoying a meal on the patio or walking along the pier with a cocktail. Dinner options at Nicks Cove include roasted California black cod, roasted half Petaluma chicken and wood fired flat iron steak along with a variety of oyster dishes, salads and desserts.

This restaurant never disappoints. It's a bit of a drive from any major city but well worth it and the scenery is breathtaking. There are a number of oyster farms along with way but save your appetite and have it all at Nick's Cove. The fresh oysters, raw of course, always a treat! However, my absolute favorites are 1) the "to-die-for" Mac and Cheese with Dungeness Crab and (2) the Cioppino. It's made with a thicker tomato base rather than a watery tomato-ish broth. Flavorful and overly filling. If you are there for lunch, have their fish and chips or better yet, share this dish and opt for the Cioppino and share that too. If you are there for dinner, be sure and order the "do-it-yourself" S'mores. They bring you everything you need to roast and assemble your own S'mores in their large stone fireplace. You can also take a walk out to the fisherman's shack at the end of the pier, sitting on Tomales Bay. Nick's Cove also has cottages that can be rented. Idyllic bay side retreat. Each cottage has a different theme or decor. If you haven't been, put this on your list of places to dine and stay... If you haven't been in a while, return. You'll wonder what kept you away for so long!
Please note: Nick's Cove informed us they no longer use Open Table for reservations! They happen to have room for us but they do not accept Open Table reservations.
Service is mediocre, we had to flag the server for drinks and the check. The noise level is high. We ordered oysters which were excellent. Mac and Cheese with pancetta which was rich and creamy. Dinner failed. We had sea bass which was dry and over seasoned. The chicken( thigh portion) was fatty with tendon pieces not cut out, the romesco sauce was quite good saving the breast portion. Overall the experience was marginal for the price we paid. Lovely view but we won't be back
Nick's remains consistently excellent. Fresh oysters, great wine list, perfect destination for dining.
My wife and I have been loyal Nick's Cove customers for several years. The restaurant is in transition, but hopefully can find it's legs soon. It's a truly unique spot with an abundance of character and charm.
Nicks Cove was so accommodating to our group of 15. We are a group of baby boomer life long friends who get together once a year. The food was fabulous, the service was excellent and the ambience was perfect!!
We both celebrated our birthdays there this year. One sunny and outside and the other hilly and inside. We loved them both and were grateful to have such great food with a beautiful view which was gluten free. The fries were a special treat.
for a place that has a show stopper of a view/setting/location, the food is perhaps unexpectedly good; reliably very good and occasionally quite excellent. a fun place for dinner with friends and quiet enough to enjoy their company.
The ambiance and view of the water was great. The clam chowder was excellent the duck salad was fair. My husbands cobia was ok. Server did a good job.
oysters were delicious and worth the drive. IMO a bit too expensive.
Delicious fresh food, in a beautiful part of Marin.
Out meal was really good however the service not so much. My husbands lunch came out 15 min before mine and my daughters. He was done eating before we even got our food. He felt bad about eating before us but he had fish and chips and it only tastes good when it's hot. Overall it was still a great experience and we will definitely go back.
The food is excellent. The clam chowder is the best on the North coast. The shrimp Louie is made with fresh lettuce and delicious large shrimp. The service was spot on.
Food was not up to delicious quality of previous numerous visits. Service was understaffed so slow and negligent. Very surprised and wondering if new chef/ kitchen turnover was the reason.
I wish the menu would change more with the seasons. Hoping the new chef will do that. My husband and I go there several times a year - the food is reliable and good, the bar is great, but the menu is getting stale and too predictable.
I'm from outside California, and have been fortunate enough to dine at Nick's Cove twice the past couple of months while taking loved ones there for a special birthday evening. Love the food, the ambiance; one of my favorite restaurants ANYWHERE. Great service, too!
great food, portions little smaller than hoped for but overall great experience.
Great place, food service and , and very friendly staff.
We will definitely go back.
I was extremely impressed with the fact that when the restaurant called to confirm our reservation they let us know there would be a wedding party there that night. They told us the kitchen might be a little slow. We did not encounter any slow down food was very good as usual and our server was very good.
Things have gone downhill here since Kuleto own/ran it. The view and setting is great and will never change, but the prices are *very* high for the current quality level of the food. Might still be good for a drink and oysters, but despite our local access and many meals over the years, it's gonna be a long time before we come back to try it again.
This restaurant was disappointing. Being on Tomales Bay, one would expect local seafood to be plentiful and of high quality. However, there was no salmon and very little crab on the menu. The fish on the menu were from Hawaii and the northern Pacific coast. The clam chowder was mediocre at best. It must also be said that the oyster dishes were excellent and the vegetable dishes tasted were very well done. However, the high prices and the disappointing menu undermined our dining experience. If Nick's Cove wants a high rating, they will have to work harder at providing more than nicely done oysters and vegetables.
We spent three days and nights here with four cousins and our spouses and it was fantastic. Our rooms were gorgeous, luxurious, beautifully decorated, cozy, romantic, mega-comfy, and fun. Concierge and wait staffs were helpful, friendly, fun, and patient. Food and drink were terrific, from freshly-baked scones to home-brewed ginger beer, mixed drinks, and great wine list. Fresh oysters, clam chowder, on and on...! Snagged the boat shack one night for a private clubhouse dinner--what a hoot! Best reunion sver--we Will Be Back!!!
Convenient for kayakers at Tomales Bay.
Loaded with flies.
Nick's bloody Marys are over the top; generous in size, spicy and interesting with the included pickled vegetables. The barbecued oysters are delicious. The fish and chips are perfect for two when combined with the roasted cauliflower with prosciutto side. Truly delicious and complimentary combinations of flavors are to be had at Nick's.
We found out about this place from several locals that recommended us going there. We were there in the offseason, so it was not very busy and a little slower than I'm guessing it normally would be at other times. The food was good as we tried many new things like oysters cooked/seasoned in multiple ways. Service was good as well. I would really like to see what the place has to offer in the summer, as I'm guessing that would enhance the experience. I would go back.
Nice blend of rustic and classy, options for view deck or cozy interior. Cioppino was very tasty.
Our oyster brunch at Nick's Cove was outstanding! We were well taken care of even when we didn't want to go inside for our reservation. They let us stay outside and eat all of the oysters we wanted. The staff were very accomodating and took excellent care of our group of 12! We are definitely going back next year!
Excellent food; we had BBQ oysters, grilled romaine salad, & fish & chips with a glass of rose. We sat outside on a gorgeous day & had a great experience.
Just fantastic food, service, atmosphere, all of the above. Thanks again for a wonderful night!
The service was actually really terrible. Had to ask the waiter several times for bread and then for water and then to take the order etc. etc. as I asked the question of the waiter he was one Which is not exactly what you would expect when you're just trying to make an order and ask a question and the waiter obviously doesn't really want to have to serve you. Pretty weird.
This is one of our favorite restaurants in California. Food, service and atmosphere are exceptional. We've been here 4 or 5 times and have never been disappointed. Highly recommend!
Food is heavy!!!! But very good and quaint
My wife and I are avid kayakers and frequent the Tomales Bay area often. We always dine at Nick's wherre the food is consistently excellent. Their fish preparation is incomparable.
Love Nick's Cove always great food and drinks. All servers are terrific.
Menu was limited and definitely not the quality I was expecting. There were flies everywhere, which was gross.
Oysters and delicious cocktails, what's not to love?
What a great place! Being native Northern Californians, and bikers, we always appreciate regional places that are warm, inviting, with great service. Nick's Cove covers all bases. Great food, service, old time Northern California Coast hospitality. This place welcomes all! Excellent service, the samples of in house cocktails is worth the experience, but not for all tastes, it's always about the adventure. Views, of course, are a given for this iconic area. Sunny, foggy, or just plain overcast, it's all about the North Coast. Our server also arranged shipping for 4 of the house wine glasses to our home, we could not fit them in the bike for the weekend!! How cool is that!
Great place...great food...everything tasted fresh...worth the drive...will come back again.
NOT healthy or tasty. Michelin reviewer must have been asleep when they ate here. This is our 2nd time and will not go back.
Clam chowder should have been called potato soup. Very few clams, and soup was tasteless. Shame. Tuna melt came packed with ingredients just not enough tuna. Mostly creamy mayo, and the tomato jam was way too sweet with a side of weak, soggy fries. Hey you want raisins with that?
Baked Oyster Mornay was very elementary with what seemed like bread crumbs thrown on top. But the best food on our table was the hot bread and very nice butter. This is not a place when you're watching calories. There are many other restaurants in Marshall much better.
Try the Marshall store. Can't fool these San Francisco foodies.
This place was exactly what I had imagined for my birthday. I really wanted to go down to the boathouse off of the dock, but it was occupied by someone who did not look like a customer. He had a bunsen burner and was cooking his own food. It was a little strange and definitely didn't make us want to hang out in that area.
Best cheeseburger I've had in a long time. Friend said tuna melt was delicious, another said same about fish and chips. Everyone enjoyed the home made tonic (with or workout gin). Spectacular view, easy to find.
