Nick & Sam's Park Cities Ratings and Reviews
It had been a couple of years since we dined at Nick & Sam's PC because the restaurant seemed to be overpriced at that time. Thus, we decided to give it another chance mainly because of the location in the middle of the University Park area. I should have been warned by the fact that at 7:30 on a Saturday night that the restaurant was fairly empty, and the impressions from years past remains today. Ultimately overpriced means that the juice was not worth the squeeze, and not a specific price point. That is that the food was priced to be excellent, but was marginal at best. My spinach side dish was completely flavorless, which came with the lamb special. The lamb was cooked appropriately, but the mint sauce was so sweet and minty that it was not useable. The redfish entrée was not good either and the sides were not memorable. The only notable positive was the fact that the salads were good before dinner and a 1/2 salad is ample for one person before the entrée.
Ask to be seated in the main dining room otherwise you get stuck in the bar area with bright flat screen TVs blinding you. The place was almost empty and we still got stuck in the bar area. If I want to pay $80 for a bone in filet, I do not want to feel like I am in a sports bar, people.
We love Nick and Sams Steakhouse. This was the first time at N&S Grill. It did not disappoint. Our group are all "Foodies" and we even had two executive chefs. Everyone raved about the food, presentation, etc. Pizzas were great. Cocktails were even better. We closed the place down. The staff was awesome. We will definitely return many times.
Food was good as always, service was awful, our waitress had a big party in another room and rarely came around - told us delay was because they were ahead of us - we gave advance notice we were celebrating big birthday - finally gave up trying to get an acknowledgement - flagged down someone to take our order after apps had been gone for 15 min, flagged some down to pay after credit card out for 15 min, manager was not around either
I was extremely disappointed in our experience with Sunday brunch at Nick & Sam's. I had been looking forward to an elegant and tasty brunch and selected Nick & Sam's after reviewing their menu on line and determining that they had a nice variety of choices. When we showed up, however, we were informed that they were having a "back to school buffet" event and that we could not even order off the menu. The buffet itself was odd but fine, but we ended up paying over $40/person for mediocre food and an atmosphere that was loud and populated with little kids running around all over the place. I have no problem with little kids or the special event, of course. My objection is with the fact that it was not noted on line and, although they called to confirm our reservation, they didn't mention the deviation from their normal menu. This restaurant failed on all levels and I will not recommend or revisit.
Just an average experience. Waiter was very attentive but overly apologetic for even mundane things. Had to switch tables due to AC condensate dripping. Most food was really good but lobster mac and cheese was very bad particularly for the price - absolutely no flavor, had to dump salt on. Mentioned to waiter and got another apology but no other attempt address.
We had the prime eggrolls, bone in rib eye, lobster macaroni and cheese ... plus mashed potatoes.
Really nice atmosphere, all the food was delicious and pricey, but decent value. Server was very nice.
There are 2 things that N&S could improve upon:
1) This was a birthday celebration and clearly noted in the reservation. Not even a 'happy birthday', let alone a scoop of ice cream or something. That's the difference between very good and EXCELLENT.
2) What was missing was bread/roll of some sort with a steak dinner. A really good sourdough roll would have made this a "I can't wait to go back place".
It was still all very good. But there are closer places at comparable prices that easily do the above 2 "misses".
They were sold out of the Cabernet I requested, from the very small by the glass selection. Also sold out of my desert choice. Steak was overcooked, didn't want to disrupt cadence of meal to send it back...but should have. Salad was good, but drenched in dressing. May give it another chance, but with so many better options, they need to step up their game.
It surprised me that a restaurant that serves sushi does not have sake. The food is pricey for what you get. Nothing special. Just the usual steak fare with the usual sides. I guess the sushi is what makes it different. The location is great for the Park Cities and this contributes for the steady business, but after having been here several times, I'm not excited about going back!
