Nick and Johnnie's - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
We had a reservation for 8:45, which was later in the night but over an hour before closing. The restaurant turned out to be almost empty and when we got there the employees seemed disappointed to see customers. After taking about 5 minutes for a server to acknowledge us, she told us the kitchen would be closing in 10 minutes. It's disappointing that a restaurant's kitchen would close an hour before the restaurant itself, even when only a few diners were left. The only positive thing about our experience there was that it led us to have a phenomenal dinner at a different restaurant that night.
The place was maybe 25% full and they went to seat us next to the kitchen door. I asked for a table in the back patio, didn't take the one next to the screaming kid, but took one of the many empty ones behind that. When I ordered coffee she said I could go get it from the buffet bar. Seriously? I understand helping myself to refills but for my first cup?! We noticed every table got a basket of biscuits but we never did, I didn't ask for them either though. I ordered Cora's Caprese. The 3 bits of Burrata, avocado bits and some chopped bland cold tomato were just placed on top of the egg whites. The bacon is just embarrassing for that caliber restaurant, thin and mostly fat. My husband's French toast was bland, had no cinnamon. He also barely drank his "fresh" OJ as it tasted bad. I had lunch here once last year and that was good but we will never be back for breakfast.
Food was good, drinks were good too.
The only thing that really annoyed me was the fact that they auto-included 20% gratuity but put "pre-tip amount" on the bill, which almost feels like they are aiming to get you to tip again.
The service was ok, i would have given 20%, but 1) i am against automated gratuities and 2) that "pre-tip total" on the bill almost made me cross of the first 20% too.
Nick and Johnnies has just the right amount of nostalgia. The open air dining in the back is just as nice as the people watching front patio. Nice array of food offerings, progressive and traditional. Right level of background music and ample nested seating areas. Loved it.
it was a hit or miss experience. We had brunch there on a Sunday morning. I had the Huevos Banditos. It was quite good. The mole' sauce on the dish as excellent. My partner had the Cuban Sandwich. It was average, at best. Looked fantastic on the plate, but the sandwich had very little flavor. The pork on the sandwich was a little dry and flavorless, like it had been prepared with no spices. The service was decent, nothing wrong with it, but nothing to commend it either.
Food was reliably good. Nice night to sit outside.
Our server got our order mixed up a bit. Brought fries when we ordered Brussels sprouts. Gave my husband another drink which he said he didn't want. Little things that were a bit annoying but not enough to not want to go back again.
First time there. Went with my husband and we ate ceviche and shrimps. It was delicious food and very good service. There was a party on the patio that was to loud and that was my only reason why I didn't think it was excellent. I would go back and recommend it to others:-)
Bartender was amazing....beautiful young girl w Magic cocktail abilities, wish I had gotten her name for a mention ....had cold seafood platter 75.00 , they did not have raw oysters so upped the shrimp which were perfect, lobster great as well as the poke..I thought the ceviche was little lacking in taste and texture....fried oyster app was delis and husband had a burger that looked great and he loved it
I have been going to Nick and Johnnie's for years and this was a horrible experience. I had a friend in town who never had stone crabs, so I called the restaurant and they told me they had some. We ordered two claws each, had one glass of wine a each, and the bill was $181.00 -- not including tip. When the waitress told me the claws were $35 each, I assumed that they were the Colossal size claws. They were not. They were probably medium, large at best. One of them was a bit mangy, with almost all of the meat sticking to the shell. They appeared to have been refrozen and all of the taste was gone. In addition, our waitress was a bit ditzy. And we had to ask for bread. Had Nick been there, I would have spoken to him, but since my friend was paying the bill, I did not want to say anything. Please pass this along to Nick. My friend now does not understand the beauty of Stone Crabs Claws -- and thinks that they -- and Nick and Johnnies -- are nothing but a rip off.
My budding family frequents both N&J as well as Cucina Del Art because the food is always fabulous, lovely ambiance and the service is family friendly. Tonight was not the case. Even though it was a slow Tuesday night, service was absentminded (forgetting my children's dinner order) and frustrating. We had to ask twice for everything from our high chair, drinks, appetizer plates, the list goes on. Hopefully it was an exception!
Six of us dined for a special night. We had very poor service from a waiter who got everything wrong. Brought an appetizer that wasn't ordered - but insisted that it was, described a special as a "stew" - it was a fish pasta. Four out of six people returned their food. I recommended the spot, it was a mistake and embarrassing.
Food was okay, not great but it was okay, I had the crab cake and it did not taste all that fresh, I didn't bother to finish it. Had a reservation time, but were seated a half hour later, and we were seated in what might be the worst seat in the house and it was not all that packed. Waitress was very nice though.
