Good as usual
We asked at our hotel for a good German restaurant near the hotel; the concierge recommended Nicholson’s. Needless to say, it is a Scottish restaurant, not a German restaurant. Nonetheless, it was very good and hit the spot for us that evening. Our server, Sharell, was wonderful and the epitome of midwestern friendliness for we midwesterners who now live in New England.
Everything was fine just got as hell!! Kind of disappointed that it wasn’t inf Romario. That was Not volunteered we had to ask why it was so hot. We wouldn’t have probably come knowing that as it was hot enough that everyone broke out in a sweat and kids were even uncomfortable. I’m sure that’s why it wasn’t I fo provided even when the call came in to confirm our reservation.
Disappointing choice for a
Mother’s Day dinner. No air conditioning, dirty restrooms, seafood appetizer was smelly and inedible and sent it back to the kitchen. Overall poor value
We went for the Mother's Day brunch. The food was great, and we had an enjoyable time, but apparently the air-conditioning was not working and it was really warm the whole time we were there. It was nice to finally get outside where, in spite of temperatures in the upper 80s, there was a slight breeze to cool us off. But we'll be back for sure!
We had a great time. The food was delicious and Garielle provided excellent service. My only complaint was that it seemed stuffy in the restaurant asnif the a.c. unit was not working.
The food and service were great, but it was a very warm evening and the AC was out. It was very uncomfortable for some in our party of five. We will definitely return but you are asking about this event.
Great Scottish / pub ambience. All staff very fun. Food delicious. More varied than we had expected. We went there due to proximity to Aronoff Center. We'll be back just for the fun and food. Most enjoyable wine selection.
everything was great accept for the air conditioning..either it was off or not working. It made things very uncomfortable..everyone was fanning themselves...shame the food and place are so nice..
General Summary: good place for every day dining while in downtown Cincy. Menu is tavern food with a Scotch-themed (bangers & mash, scotch eggs, salmon, etc.) Close walk to theaters and square. Scotch list is better than most bars. Dining area outside is small but entire bar opens to the street.
I really like Nicholson's for lunch on a nice day when you can sit outside
It was odd that there were many empty tables but few reservations available on Open Table. And the restaurant was not taking walk in patrons.
The food was very good, but extremely poor service. Didn’t get acknowledged by a server for 15min after being seated, and she was rather confused on our no-so-complicated order.
We were staying in Cincinnati and had no idea where to go for food and drinks. We tried a few Cincinnati places and they were terrible. We went here and what a great choice. We had a pitcher of momosas and two different Mac and cheese. All was great.
Very cool place. Our waiter Michael was great.Try the Hawaiian Punch. Will defiantly go back next time we're in Cincinnati
I've been lucky enough to get to Nicholsons about once a year and it's always one of the highlights of my year! Great good and fabulous, consistent quality of service. I would recommend it to anyone hitting up the Arnoff Center or Taft Theater, as it is easily within walking distance to both. Fish and chips with Duck fat fries are the best!!
Went there for dinner after my daughter's graduation from UC. Chose it because they let us make reservations for 8 people. Food was great and they had a nice variety to choose from. Don't miss dessert!
As always, the food and the service were excellent
Very comfy setting and great food - alot of unique entrees to try for brunch.
Overall ambience great, scotch selection great, Shepard’s pie very disappointing for signature dish.
Marissa took outstanding care of us and met all of our special requests. The steak and pork loin sections we made met our expectation.
Service was just s little slow
Lunch was great. Don’t think I’ve been there for lunch before. Was impressed with the variety offered for lunch. I had the salad with chicken added and it was delicious. I really liked the dressing.
Great Good food and drinks
Great restaurant all the way! Super service, food has always been delicious, and it is the perfect place to go after a show at the Aronoff Theater.
Don't order the Sticky Toffee Pudding!!!
They used to have a truly wonderful dessert at this establishment and I am very upset that it is gone. The thing is, they didn't actually "take it off the menu," they just revamped it to make it "more authentic." They tricked me! I stopped in only for this dessert a few months ago and ordered it to go bc I didn't have time to wait for a table, and was disappointed to see they had (I thought accidentally) given me some dry, awful bundt cake instead of the warm, gooey goodness that I knew the toffee pudding to be. Yesterday I had plans in the city and took the opportunity to finally have the dessert I've been craving for months. I noticed the description of the dessert had changed from what it still shows online (dates🤔😕) and decided to check with the waitress before I even ordered my lunch. She confirmed what I was afraid of; they changed something that was wonderful and loved by many to something that doesn't even deserve to be on their menu because Nicholson's does usually have very good quality food. If they want to add some authentic crappy bundt cake, then just change the name and have 1 awesome dessert and 1 Scottish "pudding" that nobody wants. Don't try to trick me into ordering this, getting my hopes up, and wasting my money! I love the convenience of Nicholson's being right across from the Aronoff, the atmosphere and the food, but the dessert is what kept me coming back and not going to one of the many other fine establishments in the city. I really hope they correct this mistake someday.
We always have dinner at Nicholson's prior to seeing a show at The Aranoff. I always make reservations and am never disappointed with our booth. Fish and chips is perfect every time, always cooked to perfection!
Great dinner of fish and chips/ fried chicken. Both good value, excellent flavor.
Our before the show treat.
I don’t think I’ll be coming back. The pot roast was very tough and dry. They cooked it with potatoes and carrots , then served additional potatoes (mashed) on the side. This seemed unimaginative. Beyond the mediocre food, the ultra-mini skirts, that the female servers wore, were more risqué than anything I’ve ever seen. While some patrons may “appreciate” that, I was very uncomfortable and embarrassed for them. Did they know or care that their rear ends were clearing visible, even if they didn’t bend over? The hosted looked like she was practicing her cheerleading moves in between customers. (gave the impression she was either bored or had ADD).
It was a great meal in a great restaurant. They do a great job with service
I have enjoyed Nicholson's in the past but this was the 2nd time I was served overly fried, too crisp Fish and Chips.
Same as always why we keep coming back
We have been to Nicholson's a number of times and really enjoyed it. This time was just OK. The food was a bit overdone and the service was so-so.
Love Nicholson's. Always head there before a play at the Aronoff, to get a play-themed cocktail. Only issue we had, we got there 10 minutes early, and even though the table was open, the hostess refused to seat us. Luckily, the server and manager both were more courteous, once we were finally seated.
Have to admit this trip was disappointing. Ordered some wine and appetizers and the calamari (that our waiter Michael bragged about) never came and our waiter did not return to check to make sure we got our food. By the time he came back and I asked for the check because we had tickets to a show across the street and didn't seem too bothered that we did not get the food we ordered.
The last several times we have arrived about 15 minutes early for our reservation and were required to wait by the crowded bar in the way to be seated even though the table was available. The reason we were given was to not overload the kitchen with orders. It would make more sense to seat the patrons at their table and ask if they can take their order around the time of their reservation.
Nicholson's is our favorite pre-theater place to go! Our server this last visit was incredible. As always, the fish and chips did not disappoint. The homemade ketchup and tartar sauce added just the right flavors to this authentic pub dish.
Be sure to book early if there is a show so you won't be disappointed!
Disappointed with the seating and the wobbly table. Asked for a better table, but only a high top was free and my husband has back problems which aren't conducive to high top seating. Really disappointed especially because I made a reservation before a special night at the Aronoff. My husband was not happy.
All nice but it took 45 min for our order to be served.
Excellent food and service
