It was St Patricks day. I had a reservation but our table was in the bar. Too loud. A reservation should have put us in the quieter dining room. Reception staff seemed very confused.
Great evening. St Patrick's Day but the food was great and service excellent . Friendly staff .
Had a great family gathering celebrating St. Patrick's Day.
As always, good food and great service. WIll be back
It was unfortunate we were seated in an area where there was a loud group standing and eating and drinking- otherwise the atmosphere was great.
Bad steak. Medium rare steak was over cooked. positive was that we could get in...better restaurant s were unavailable.
Compliments to Chef Jeff! The food was delicious and the ambiance was perfect.
Great place to go before a musical
Great staff, great vibe, great food, great location!
The food and drinks were good it was a little cold in the back room where we sat but our waitress got us some heat. Love the atmosphere and decor
Loved it as always. Good food good service, big portions; great deal
Everyone was happy with their orders. Service was a little under par. She got my salad wrong. Was fine with it. Maybe a newer waitress? Seemed to be overwhelmed. Was friendly.
Absolutely horrid food. Bread board was dry, mealy, and sad. Oatmeal trout was salty as hell, overly breaded. Potato hash side was a mushy salty mess. Salmon eat over cooked. Grilled asparagus was not grilled and was ice cold. All for the low low price of $72. Won’t be back.
It's a convenient place for dinner before a show at the Aronoff across the street. We arrived at 5:30, with no problem getting a table. The place started getting filled about 6:00, and most people cleared out for the 7:30 show.
Our party of four enjoyed the dining experience . The service and food were excellent .
Food was delicious. This is the only restaurant where I order fish and chips.
Just....meh. Plan was to grab a bite to eat and drink before a show across the street, which we did make time-wise. However, service was sloooooow. Table seated next to us came in after us, and got food well before we did. Not sure if place was staffed adequately for early Sunday dinner. Food quality was alright, and certainly not overpriced, but nothing to rave about or bring us back.
You'd think a restaurant directly across from the Aronoff would be prepared for a rush of pre-show dinner patrons for a Sunday show that starts at 6:30. Nicholson's wasn't. Our fish and chips were good. Service was chaotic and food delivery was slow. Perhaps some servers didn't show up for work and other employees who normally don't wait tables had to fill in.
Food was good with several choices. Service was terrible. Our waitress took our order and never really interacted with us again. Other servers brought our food. After about 30 minutes the hostess cleared a plate and we tried to order another round of beer. After 20 more minutes our waitress stopped by to say our food would be arriving soon. We told her we already ate, tried to order our beer again and ordered a dessert to split. Our waitress came back and said the dessert was out and we ordered our beer one more time, which she finally brought. We asked for the check and when she came to get it she tried to give us another check instead of taking the one with the credit card in it already at the table. I would go back but if we get this terrible service again that will be it.
Overall an outstanding experience. Service would have been 5 stars but seemed like she got overwhelmed and others had to pitch in. Two food items almost were given to table next to us. Had a wait on check. On upside, our server was very cordial and made great recommendations.
Great place - interesting bar. Fun.
It was crowded, I was disappointed when the hostess tried to seat us at a high top next to the hostess station. That was the spot everyone was standing waiting. We were told that patrons were “relaxing” after their meal and not leaving to free up tables.
In town and my wife and I had dinner on Saturday night. Food was outstanding the hostess and our waitress were both just great. Will be back the next time we are in town.
I made reservations for 6 so we could get to our show by 8. Our food took an hour and a half. Our waitress was missing for a half hour so I had to go to the hostess stand for help. And the food I ordered was watery, cold and all around gross.
I had high expectations for this place but they let me down.
GREAT! Always the BEST! We were asked to leave after 2 hours because it was getting busy and they had a long wait. We forgot ourselves and were chatting before the concert.
Nice late lunch
Great place to go before the plays..We all love the duck fries!! Always courteous and efficient servers. The food is always hot and cooked just right. Live the new menu options.
They were confused about our reservation, and it took quite a while for our food to come out, but other than that it was very nice.
Our service at Nicholson's was terrible! Arrived for a 6 PM reservation. It was made clear to our server that we had tickets to a Broadway show at 7:30 Thank goodness it was only across to street. We promptly order our drinks and food. I never did receive my drink. After waiting for it for over 40 minutes, I told the waiter to cancel my drink. Our food arrived at 7 PM after a 50 minute wait!! Totally unacceptable! I would accept this service if we had walked in off the street. However we had reservations! My friends and I ate here a few months ago and were not very happy with the service. After this experience I will not be eating at Nicholson's again in the near future.
Have been there several times. never disappointed with food or service
Everything was fine Mac&cheese was cold. Went back and still not real hot
We had a wonderful lunch the other day at Nicholson's. After sharing a ploughman's bread board I had a nice luncheon-sized portion of Bangers & Mash in which the sausages were particularly outstanding. My two companions indicated both the Shepherds Pie and the Lobster Macaroni Pie were excellent. Polished off a wonderful Bellhaven Twisted Thistle IPA. Felt very sated with just the right amount of food.
Summer was a great server! Food was very good, but tending towards bar food and less “Scottish Pub Food”. Good drink menu. Definitely recommend
Great food and service as always. I've been there for a number of occasions.
we were seated right away. my wife wasn't feeling well, so she wasn't her usual friendly self. got a little attitude from our waitress because of that I thought. even though it was slow we rarely saw our waitress like at other places. manager didn't even come by and ask how our dinners were. service did get better as dinner went along. will proabably eat there again before going to a show at the arranoff,
do have one complaint about the request thing. I had one and it didn't happen, wasn't even mentioned by anyone there. it could have made my wife feel a little better, and stated the dinner off differently. if you ask for requests, then make sure they are honored, more people will be upset, if they arrive somewhere expecting something and it doesn't happen. the communication between you and wherever the request is to be carried out needs to be checked and re-checked until it happens. if this problem keeps happening, then quit asking for requests. don't know who the request problem should be addressed to.
Food was delicious and served very promptly and hot. The fried chicken was tasty. Very clean and the wait staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Had great ambience. Will definitely return
The place was very busy due to the Seinfeld performances across the street. However our 8 o'clock resversation was met within minutes of the hour. Great service even on the busy evening.
Great pre-theater venue to get a bite to eat before or after the show!
This just might be the worst restaurant I have ever been to in my life and we are still here waiting on our food, which just arrived. Our table is like in the common area where people wait for their table and that's with me making a reservation.
